It will be a nod to many great westerns, and also a very useful mechanic that could get you out of risky situations. Say you are at the opening of a cave on the side of a mountain and lots of creepers are inside charging at you (unlikely, but just go with it), luckily you have your horse hitched below at the bottom of the mountain, and you go ahead and jump, aim for your horse, and bam, you're mounted, to ride off into the sunset. I believe you should be impervious to damage no matter the height you jumped from. This is because if you are on a really high place, I mean really high, it would be hard to aim for your horse, and you probably wouldn't be able to land on it anyway. Taking no damage would encourage players to use the mechanic more often. Of course, this could always change, based on everyone's opinion.
I tested in single player and I found that if you have a good enough timing, you can right click on the horse while falling and you will negate damage.

I can confirm. This will negate all fall damage.
It's not easy, far from, but totally possible - and potentially a pretty cool trick. It also works with untamed horses if you are not holding anything.
Actually, it works with anything you can ride. Boat, big, minecart, just hold right mouse as you fall and aim for the mount. Again, still difficult (and the carts seem to be the hardest) but totally doable.
And it negates any and all damage no matter the height.
If anything, you and your pig/horse should both get hurt.
Warning: Disturbing.
Oh and maybe after you land on your horse you should end up in extreme pain for landing on your crotch and you will be in slowness and nausea for 10 minutes!!! And maybe if you end up falling from unbelievable heights your crotch explodes!!!
(Just thought I'd make a reference to PrincessMinecraftia)

It's true.
It's fun.
So... I don't think we need it added, but it would be cool.

And maybe if you end up falling from unbelievable heights your crotch explodes!!!It's already possible, although very difficult unless your horse stays still. But it pays off in the end.
That was a weird thread...
