Hehehe... NO. Fire isn't something you can carry, and it makes no sense that fire can craft chainmail armor. I know that it already can, but it just doesn't make sense.
There is a difference between logic in a game and realism in a game. Minecraft has its own logic that isn't 100% the same as the real world. It is not realistic to carry Lava in a Bucket, but it follows Minecraft logic because in Minecraft You use Buckets to pick up liquids, Water and Lava are liquids, therefore you can use a Bucket to pick up Lava. It isn't realistic but it follows the game's logic. The same goes for things like inventory. You have X amounts of inventory slots, and can hold up to 64 items per slot. It isn't realistic that you can carry all of it, but it follows the game logic.
This is very different from that however. Chainmail was originally supposed to be obtainable but was left out for a long time for whatever reason. That is why it uses Fire as the crafting ingredient, it was there as a placeholder, making so if/when it is made craftable, Mojang can just replace the ID for fire in the recipe, rather than paste the entire code for the recipe again. Later, they decided to make it a rare item for Zombies and Villager Trades. The only reason the old recipe still exists is because there was no point in removing it.
Fire hurts you when you touch it, therefore it does not fit in with game logic or realism that you can hold on to it in your hand or in your inventory. So unless there is an alternate way of picking it up (like Fire in a Bottle a la Zelda), it doesn't make sense.
At least you took the time to tell me the fault in my suggestion instead of this ranting people are doing.
As I was digging through all the posts buried on the poor OP,I actually found a reason to kill French Fry Monsters(FFM(AKA Blazes))To get this fire,Block 51.It could be used to build safe,non-flamable fire places.I hope I don't get flamed for half-supporting.

You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.
If you want to craft Chain Armor, the recipe should be with Iron Bars (16 Bars for 6 Ingots, it would be far less expensive than Iron Armor but protects you less and has less durability).

Hi! I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!
This suggestion adds a way to obtain fire on survival mode without mods. Not flint and steel, but the actual fir block that has a block id of 51. You could use this to make chainmail armor. This suggestion makes ghasts and blazes drop fire as a rare drop, as rare as wither skeleton skulls. Fire is also available in the creative menu for whatever reason you want.
Its called a decoration. You go to the End only to get the dragon egg.
No, you don't. You go to the End to kill the Enderdragon. The egg is your TROPHY!! If the dragon exploded and dropped infinite diamonds, then that would be the reason to go the the End. But most people go to the End to kill the dragon or farm Endermen.
Well, IMO if you REALLY want weak decoration armor you should kill hostile mobs and get drops of chainmail armor, then combine it in a anvil. No support, it's for decoration, and what use it there other than to store it in a chest or hang it on the wall? If you really want to hang chainmail armor on a wall hang damaged chainmail armor that is dropped by a zombie.

Rather than making adding support for the fire block, why not make it so you can turn iron into an iron wire that is instead used to make chainmaille; makes more sense if you ask me. Say 1 iron ingot makes 4 iron wire, it takes 24 materials to make armor, so chainmaille would end up using 6 iron ingots, 25% the cost of iron armor. I feel this is an easy and balanced solution
Why does everyone think the OP wants this for Chainmail!?This is more for decor than anything!I mean, really, read the OP!

Also here's a random fact about the real world. Lava is so hot that if you got at least two feet away then your shirt would burst into flames. We hold lava buckets in Minecraft but we don't burst into flames.
So it would be normal to jump in Minecraft and than have gravity flip on you and you're suddenly floating upwards?
Let's save the extremely screwed up physics for games that they actually fit in.

1) Because there are already methods in the game for placing fire in the world, and have been for years.
2) Because there are only four items that can be crafted using fire, all of them are part of the chainmaille armour set
3) Because the OP started this subject for the purpose of creating chainmaille armour.
It doesn't make sense to craft chain armour out of fire. Even though it's something that was in Minecraft's original stages, it just doesn't make sense. I can see the purpose of this as a vanity item, but I think it'd be even more of a rare/vanity type item if we just leave it to be purchasable from a few select villagers.
Also, holding tiles of fire would look and feel weird.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that who cares? He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
Like DurzaMC said, the dragon egg is used for decoration, but, a lot of people don't fight the enderdragon just for the egg, you fight it for many reasons. These are some that I can think of. No enderdragon to bother you when you are farming endermen, the satisfaction of killing the dragon, the XP, and technically, beating the game, I don't support this because if fire would be a "side drop" from ghasts and blazes, then just fight an easier mob, like a zombie WITH chain armor, and try and get the armor as a drop. It would be less risky than fighting ghasts and blazes just to get fire.

My best suggestion:
Mobs actually being varied???

I like it. I'll make a mod for it.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.

No support.
Yea, I stopped playing with matches after I burned myself on accident. Nobody knows, but me.
