Ok now I'm getting just sick of this. 135 views yet only 8 posts, now 9 including this one, and only 4 are from other people. I am putting this on the first post on the OP. I am really getting annoyed of all my suggestions getting so far full support and a lot of views, yet only like 3 posts. Every time I see the front page of the suggestions it's full of the posts that are vague, use no grammar, or are just plain unacceptable. Some are good. Some like Rexroblox's. I am just seriously sick of it. This is the most work I have put into a suggestion with all the images and the GUI, but what do I get out of it? 135 views and 4 posts from other people.. Wait you say? I have waited for over a day, almost 2 days if you want the extra 5 hours added on.
I feel terrible about bumping. I really do. I just want some real feedback. Please.
Yes. Traps. I have searched it, all things that have something slightly in common with THIS suggestion are from 2012-. I'd rather have this version which is more up to date and I'd actually reply to feedback rather than the OP who hasn't been on in 2 years says nothing.
Traps: What type?
These are not player traps. We can do player traps normally. These are animal traps, more preferably peaceful animals. Here is what happens.
You open a chest. A new icon appears right next to the chest's area. (One slot) It will have an outline of a stick as if it were the armor outlines in your inventory. But two things look like a stick, a blaze rod and a regular stick.
You also need to put in bait. The slot on the opposing side shows one of your hunger drumstick things. Placing any plant in it will count as bait. (Carrots, potatoes, wheat, but not seeds!) Once you put in an item it can not be taken out. That is if it has been used. Each food has a different rank.
Here is what it would look like without the slots (Left: Stick Right: Bait)
Potato: Will attract mobs in a 2x2 chunk area.
Wheat: Will attract mobs in a 4x4 chunk area.
Carrot: Will attract mobs in a 5x5 chunk area.
Golden carrot: Will attract mobs in a 5x5 chunk area but will have a chance of doubling your food loot. (70%)
Each bait has a durability bar. Each food has a different amount of uses.
Potato: 3
Wheat: 5
Carrot: 6
Golden carrot: 7
Now you can probably guess what happens when you put a stick in the slot. If you don't, I made a little image.
If you have seen some kind of cartoon or something where people are 'surviving' you may have seen them use some kind of cardboard box and a stick. If you do not know what gravity is, an animal would go for the bait inside and knock the stick down, therefor leaving them trapped in there until the trap is checked.
What happens with the chest from there? The chest will catch at least one animal if they are in the radius of your chest depending on the bait (Stated above). The animals will not race as fast as they can to the chest. They will move as fast as an ocelot when you are holding still with your fish. Then they will wander. Then they will move.
There are certain variables when it comes to how close are you to the trap and how you are catching it.
Mobs will not go for a trap if a player is within 5 blocks of a chest. If you are undetectable, like if you are in sugar cane (If you hide in it all mobs but zombies will never see you) and in the radius it will not count.
You can get two different things from this: Food or the animal itself.
Food. What type of food can you get and is it cooked? The answer: Maybe. First off, this is how you find out if you have caught an animal? Well, you get off your possibly lazy but and go manually check. Or you can use clues. If you see a chicken or something wandering twords your chest, what do you do? Note the fact that other animals are not or have not died in there. So don't startle it.
What type of food? And is it cooked Part 2? Well that depends on what animal you have trapped. You can tell by looking in the chest. Is it cooked? Here's the catch. What type of stick did you use? Remember how I mentioned blaze rods earlier? That's how you get auto cooked food.
The full pack
I did mention the full animal earlier. That is included. But even though you can fit a chest within a chest, x64 x21 you still need a large chest to trap a full animal rather than the meat. If you wanted just the meat, good for you, one less chest. Large chests CAN trap 2 animals just because you went through the hassle to make ANOTHER chest. I know it is tough. Anyway, you do NOT need another stick, and when you want the 2 animals out of the chest, what exactly do they appear as in the chest? If you have a stick in, a little thing will appear below the stick slot saying "Animals trapped: 0" and will obviously increase once you get an animal in there. Below that is a "Release" button that well, releases the animals. You can then tie them up and put them in a pen.
Will increase the spawn rate of mobs within a 3x3 chunk radius
Potions may have a chance of attracting animals. Again, not decided.
FAQ even though nothing was asked yet<-- Does have some things you might want to read. Q: Can I get double or more drops for the chest without using a golden carrot?
A: Yes but it will be a bit pricy. You need a stick or blaze rod with the looting enchantment from enchanted books. Looting 1 will give a 50% chance to double and a 20% chance to triple. As each level goes up the chances do by +20%.
Q: Will my stick break after it is used? It would be a shame if I used that looting enchantment just for 3 pieces of pork!
A: No. No it would not.
Q: What if I break the chest with used bait in it?
A: Used bait? I see no used bait on the floor.
Q: Will there be any easter eggs with this?
A: Indeed. On St. Patrick's day, placing a golden carrot will give you back a piece of paper that says "You'll never get my gold!". This refers to when some of us were little kids and made one of these for "Leprechauns"
Q: Will this mess up my penned animals if my trap is near by?
A: No. They will have to, or maybe it is already in here, add a new AI to where if the animal can't get to it they will give up. That way you don't have all your cows crowded in a corner and failing to jump over a fence.
Not a bad idea, I think it should be a new item so it doesn't clog up the GUI though.
What the animals? Yeah I was thinking of some different things. For some reason a cow block or something XD. That was the only legitimate way I could think of it. I didn't want people to be able to place their animals in a pen, if they are good enough to trap them then they can get it into their pen with leads or the good ol fashioned "Get in there yah rascal! " *push*

Add a GUI to a block of Hay? Or maybe used the trapped chest? Then when the trap is activated it sends out a redstone signal so you can hook up systems to know when your traps have been activated.
Overall I really like the idea! I get tired of endlessly herding animals back to base with leads or wheat.

I was actually thinking of that. The redstone part. And to those who think the GUI or whatver would be crowded... here it is without the slots, I just want to show you what I imagined of it. (Thank you paint.net )
I am adding this to the main post. Hey look a title for the spoiler
I mean the trap, if it's a chest there would be a really big GUI
If you added the trap itself it would be a whole new thing to code aside from the GUI and the new AI. Instead of adding a trap, I think a chest would look much more "Minecrafty" instead of a real trap. With a chest, this is what it adds for new uses:
Sticks
Blaze rods
Chests
Planted food (If you live off of meat)
Another way to get meat/animals.

This would be a great way to counteract the fact that animals are limited, few and far between. No longer would players have to travel multiple kilometers, over perilous terrain, just to find a cow.

Well it just attracts mobs within that range. So if there are any mobs within the range, they will go for it. BUT, I'll add an optional list that they will spawn more likely.

I think it should be on the Block of Hay instead of a chest.
Also, I think all three baits should have a 48-64 block radius. Golden Carrot can remain at 80 though.
Hay can't be propped open like a chest, therefore ruining the traps. I like the radius I put, as there are not even close to over 20 natural mobs spawned in a 1x1 chunk area. That's what 64 blocks is equal to: a one chunk area.

I'm bumping this idea because I was looking to see if a recent one existed since I wanted to post it. I think it'd be a pretty fun idea, letting people do more of a hunter style gameplay via capturing animals for food.
