In 1.6, Mojang released a brand new minecraft launcher with some new features. So, I figured because the server files are dated, why not add one for the server?
First off, the server files would have the auto-updater and version selector, just like the launcher has.
We would add some new tabs to the server. The first will be the home page. It shows the data that you see in the multiplayer menu, with a little bit more. It will include a complete list of all the online players, as well as a list of all the players that have ever joined. (you can turn that off).
Second tab is the chat log. It would only show commands, player chats, joining/leaving the game, /tell commands. Error messages can be turned on and off (i.e. Can't keep up, entity (insert name here) is at the wrong location, save is being accessed from another location, (name) lost connection disconnection.(insert reason)
Third tab is graphs and anylistics. It will show a complete graph showing memory usage, which you can scroll across to see previous data. It will also show when and where players connected or disconnected, as well as other key lag-causing events, such as entering a dimension, or an explosion.
Fourth is a tab where you can manage bukkit plugins, which will now be supported with the minecraft server.
Fifth tab is spy mode, where you can get a view of each player's screen when you select them. It will show if the player is violating rules or using x-ray packs. In the bottom is a "ban player," "kick player," "teleport player," or "send message to player" button, that will allow you to communicate.
Sixth tab shows you all of the banned and/or whitelisted players.
As well as this, some re-decorating would be done, as well as the option to put the server into a backround task, which takes away from lag.
if a server has any meaningful analytics, it's not being run on a home computer. If it's not being run on a home computer, it's being run on a server. If it's being run on a server, you aren't going to go to the server just to check analytics. If you go to the server to check analytics, you really care about analytics. If you really care about analytics, you already have a system in place to check analytics without going to the server. This whole logic chain applies for every other idea. If the server is big enough to need any of this stuff, it already has systems in place to do those tasks, and so adding them to the dinky launcher would just end up in a bunch of bloatware tagging along with the simple server launcher people really want.

If you don't really care, run it in the background. Lots of small servers would find this useful, and some people would rather not pay for a program to check analytics. I find a lot of these features, especially auto-update and version selection, to be very useful.
