This could be a nice touch of cosmetic and the "oh god I'm gonna die" feeling to the world. But it would look better if the houses in the abandoned villages had cobwebs inside and outside them.

Would feel bad for that one guy who never found a village, and when he finally finds one, he gets sad because he sees that its really abandoned. Support anyway.

Good idea!

One of the earlier supporters suggested spawners. Why no have a dungeon underneath the villager or, rarely, there would be a 10% chance of a ruined village to have a spawner surrounded by moss stone on the surface.

Thank you! And yes, cobwebs would definitely be a good addition.

Thank you! The reason I said before that I didn't want to have spawners is that it just didn't seem to fit in to the concept of an abandoned village. Maybe it would make sense to have a zombie spawner somewhere close to the village, though, to act as the zombies that killed off the villagers.
Such a shame finding one of these and getting your hopes up too much thinking it is a real village.
Unfortunately, no support.
Like I said in the original post, abandoned villages would only be 20% of all villages spawned. If people think this is too high, then I could reduce it to 10 or even 5%. What does everyone think?
Also, this post is officially hot! I didn't think so many people would like this suggestion so much. Thanks to everybody who's supported so far!
Did you actually just spend your time writing all that, or did you just copy and paste that from somewhere? And in regards to my post being a "wall of text," yeah, I'll format it soon.

Decreasing the percentage doesn't solve this flaw. What if the village you find happens to be in the boundaries of the percentage set?

The way I see it, villages are boring and too easy. This suggestion is a way to remedy that. It wouldn't be too common, so you wouldn't have to worry about seeing them too much.

Please consider how others' perspective as well. Villages may be boring, but a much boring addition would not improve the villages in any way. As for being easy, I believe zombie sieges and duplication make it 20x harder than before.

That's not a solution. It's the point that you have to worry of actually running into one, in hopes of finding a normal village. Even if the percentage drops to 0.1%, it's still a nuisance if you manage to find one of these instead of your beloved live village.

There are many people who agree, villages are boring. Making a few of them abandoned makes it more interesting and exciting to come across one of them. As for the abandoned villages being boring, just like you said, that's your own perspective. I, for one, think it would be pretty cool to stumble upon something like this. Zombie sieges are pretty easy to defend against also. Just camp outside and it's pretty easy to take them all out.

Really, villages aren't all that valuable anyway. Basically all you can do in them is trade with them (and many of them are really bad deals as well), take the materials from the blacksmith's chest, all of which are very easily obtainable by mining for a bit, and collect their bookcases, which aren't really that hard to make.
well, i was playing minecraft when i found a village then i remembered this idea, so i basically turned it to night, spawned some zombies and when i wasn't sure that the village has no villagers, i spawned 3 more zombies, then i spawned a couple of creepers and made them explode beside some houses, one of them even ruined a farm ! so, well, now it's a 100% abandoned village

Nice! You mind sending some screenshots so I can see your work?

If the suggestion is implemented, abandoned villages would soon be boring after some time. Similarly to villages, jungle temples, and desert temples. Most of us only visit them due to their easy valuable reward. What will we gain from abandoned villages?

So, a zombie siege all targeting the player? Isn't that what he usually get nowadays? Zombie sieges in regular villages are still adequate and is suffice for what we have. Spreading a contagious virus is where the danger is at. There would be no real danger in an abandoned village as you said, what's the fun in that?

And you are proposing abandoned villages be somehow more efficient and 'cooler' than the villages we have now, how?
Thank you!
