Idea based from Badprenup:
When we put stone bricks in the first slot of the anvil, we should be able to obtain cracked stone bricks from it. The price? I really want to make it cheap since it is purely aesthetics. Probably like 1 level per 1-8 stone bricks. Though if the anvil cannot handle that, oh well...
Original idea:
Simple idea I have right now. When an anvil lands on a stone brick, it can turn cracked. The chances of it turning into cracked increases as the drop height increases.
Why? To give more uses to anvils as well as allow the creation of cracked stone bricks.

I second this.

"I dunno, ZK, that sounds pretty awesome..." "Well then, let's get awesome!"
The idea is okay in theory but I'm not going to potentially waste 31 Iron Ingots on changing a Stone Brick to a Cracked Stone Brick. The chance of it damaging the Anvil is (5+X*5)% where X is the number of blocks it falls. That gives it a minimum of 10% each time so statistically with 3 levels you can make about 30 Cracked Stone Bricks before your anvil breaks. I'm not spending 31 Iron on 30 Stone Bricks.

Iron is technically renewable through an iron golem farm. Cracked Stone Bricks aren't. If you are well-established in your world and have used up the natural Cracked Stone Brick supply, this could be useful.

Or how about being able to change some stone bricks within a radius?

Yes it is technically renewable, if you don't mind making a decent sized Villager Farm. But not everyone likes building grinders, including myself.

I don't know, it would have to be a lot of them. I would rather use the Anvil as a "chisel" and pay a small amount of XP to make them cracked. Something like 1-2 XP per Brick. That way it is a 12% chance of Anvil damage per enchantment but you get 64 instead of 1. That would allow approximately 25 stacks of Bricks to be made before an Anvil breaks.
I know you can already name blocks with the Anvil but seeing how the names aren't remembered when placed it is a largely useless system except for Adventure Maps. Perfect to be adapted into modifying blocks.

Alright then.
But I feel like making the creation fairly cheap since it is purely for aesthetics anyway.

I agree. I just happen to think 4 levels to get a stack of them is cheaper than your method. Especially when you consider how many sources XP comes from. 5 minutes of combat can get you enough to convert 3-4 stacks, and the Iron cost per Stone Brick for my method is only 1.8% of the cost of your method if you consider the percentages of breaking. If you want I can show my work.

How about when an anvil lands on a stone block, it turns to cobblestone, and when an anvil lands on smooth sandstone, it turns to the normal cracked sandstone?

I agree completely with this post. Maybe using Badprenup's idea.
I like the part about putting them in the first slot, and receiving cracked bricks without spending too much XP. It's not worth going to find a stronghold, or spending 31 iron ingots on an anvil to break them.
This is why I like you Rex, if someone has a differing idea you will give it a fair shake.

I dont think we need that. Cobblestone can be done by mining the smooth stone. And sand is pretty common and can easily be turned into sandstone.

I feel like this is a nice thought, but not what should be focused on right now. For now I think the focus should be on making the game more rogue like and skill based.

I know that, but just... for some kind of extra effect or something...

I see what you mean there, but I am doubting if they will actually code my original idea. Badprenup's is more feasible anyway...
