hello, i have a good argument here, if sand and gravel can fall if nothing under it, then why doesn't dirt fall dirt is like gravel and sand in substance way. you cant put a peice of dry dirt on the ceiling and not expect it to fall. if Mojang wanted to make minecraft realistic they shoud make dirt fall. thank you for your time.
People should marry for love, not convenience. And if Uther thinks an unhappy king makes for a stronger kingdom, then he's wrong because you may be destined to rule Camelot but you have a choice... as to how you do it. ~Merlin

That's what your argument is? I also don't expect red dust to trigger doors made of iron to suddenly open.

It's a good thing Mojang doesn't actually want that, nor would make a dumb decision like that.
do you guys see where i'm coming from though right?
I completely see where you're coming from, it doesn't make any sense for dirt not to be affected by gravity. However, this does not mean it would be a good idea. Sand and gravel are only found in small quantities (in the case of sand, the top layers of deserts as well); dirt is found all over the place and is incredibly more common than either of those two. Digging through mountains (or, for that matter, anything else) would be bothersome and disruptive to the look of the mountain, as well as many other things. It would be similar, but not equivalent, to making stone unaffected by gravity. So, if you ask me, you have a logical argument, but not a good one.
Sure, it would make it more realistic, but think about it. Is stuff like creepers and enderdragons realistic? How about enchanting a sword with the ability to make people fly back 10 meters.
So no, I don't think this would be a good addition to the game.
Minecraft is not really realistic. Can you imagine how much this would change the game? This would change Minecraft forever and would totally ruin it. A lot of peoples builds would be ruined! Terrains would be messed up, think of all the mini caves you see above surface that are made of dirt, they would be ruined. No support-
This would make cave generation really boring. Dirt always overhangs.
Exactly. This would make every cave entrance half or fully blocked by the overhanging Dirt that would have "fallen'", or at least would make them look boring. It would also force using stone everywhere you want to hide something under the ground. Have you ever tried doing serious groundwork in a desert's sand? Not funny I tell you. not multiply it to ALL biomes inastead of just one i.e. make it unavoidable, and that it what you idea would cause.
I too can see where you are coming from, but trust me, for Minecraft it just would not work at all.
What I personally do is this:
I imagine Gravel to actually be dry nearly-clean gravel, not wet packed dirty gravel, and the same for Sand, so yeah like the sand in an hourglass, they "flow" and "fall".
Meanwhile I imagine Dirt to be all wet and packed, maybe even with lots of tiny roots inside it. It can "hold it's shape well enough".

People would be angry because they cannot make their dirt houses....
Edit: Ninja'd. Twice. xD
The reason why is because Mincraft doesn't need realism to be good, it's already great and we need things to make it better not more realistic.

No you don't.

No support.

Also, it will ruin the iconic dirt huts, so no, no support. We have gravel and sand for this purpose.

No.
Another block like gravel and sand...? No...
