I suggest that when you are killing skeletons a body part will disappear and rarely, a bone will. It would look cool and also explain how the skeleton is staying together - it doesn't.
For example, Fred is fighting a skeleton outside. First swipe and nothing happens. Second, the skeleton's head falls off. Third, a leg falls off. Fourth, left arm falls off. The skeleton can still shoot unless the right arm falls off. Fifth, dies.
It would be mostly visual and does not accurately determine the health of a skeleton.
I like, reminds me of the dismemberment mod. (without the blood of course)
If this were added, people having difficulty with skeletons can aim their hits accurately, hopefully striking the Skeleton's bow arm of something.

Are you planning to make suggestion? check the search bar first.
If the skeleton can still shoot with one hand, then the player's plans to kill the skeleton might "fall apart"! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
HILAROUS JOKE! BWAHAHA, MY FACE IS SOAKING WITH TEARS!
This reminds me of that Dismemberment mod. Would aiming for a part make it more likely to fall off?

I hate people who complain. I hate spiders. I hate people who own an Xbox One. I hate people who like sandbox games. I hate people who like first person shooters. I hate people who like explosions. I hate people who like video games. I hate people who are hateful. I hate people that don't like spam. I hate people who like cake. I hate people who type in proper grammar and spell words properly on the internet. I hate hypocrites.
Overprotective parents would then complain that the game they bought for their 7 year old son features dismemberment, and then they would complain to Mojang, then all this stuff happens, and yada yada yada. As much as I want this the game, I don't want this to cause so many issues.

Have you seen how many little kids play Call of Duty? It's mind-boggling!

"You tried mercenary work? It might suit you."
"On a scale of one mile to Lord of the Rings, how far did you walk today?"

If it isn't tied to health, why does it die after five swings exactly? Either it's health-based or Fred got incredibly lucky...
Neat idea though.
@Gojira: "so many issues"...What issues? Parent complain, Mojang tells them to go **** themselves or ignores them.
Yes, visual diversity and variable details are completely pointless. Go spread the word to everyone in your neighborhood who isn't living in a suburb of gray clone homes.
Yes, I have. I also see all the little kids on TF2. Notice I said OVERPROTECTIVE parents.
All the overprotective parents haven't found a way to bring down CoD and TF2 yet, so a few betchy parents won't be a problem.
This is also a good idea. This wouldn't be hard to implement. The guy who made the dismemberment mod has already done a great job, so it is definitely possible
I GIVE 2000% SUPPORT.
This is a great way to add fun to combat.
This makes it so you have to Dismember your opponent which to me seems Awesome.
And to all those people who say that skeles & Zombies cant think without head, think again.
It is magic meaning that it isnt using a specific part of the body to control itself.
I think that this is a good idea, but not necessary. I do think that if this were to be added that in the settings, you should be able to change it on or off. I personally like the idea of this as it would be aesthetically pleasing. Support+

Or will the skeleton just split like slime, in bones, rib cage, head, and something else who try to attack you(thereby they drop bow and melee you)
