Going along with special mobs such as wither skeletons and cave spiders, I propose glowworms, a special silverfish mob. Its design is simply a colorful silverfish without the spiny protrusions.
Found in deep caves, glowworms spawn rarely in groups of 8-16 of the same color. They cling to any side of a block and give off a colorful glow, not a light source.
Like silverfish, glowworms are hostile mobs. However, a glowworm will not attack the player unless the block the glowworm is clinging to is destroyed. Damaging a glowworm causes all glowworms within 16 blocks to become hostile.
They have hearts, do damage, and do not drop anything.
I'm not sure about attraction. I'd have said annoyance. And the fact that it is a new hostile mob doesn't improve the game. A rainbow bunny that shoots koala bears at you is also a new hostile mob. But an improvement? No.
I agree with you about bats. I think they're cool now, but if a suggestion had come up before to add them, I'd have asked similar questions.
And the reason I'm pressing you is because if you can defend your idea and convince me it's a good one, then I'll support. This is a suggestions forum, and ideas that ultimately don't fit have to be singled out quickly and desicively. I'm not being mean, but compare this to an episode of Dragons Den. If your idea is good, then it has a chance to stay. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt because you have some nice pictures and an easy to read layout.
I like this idea. It would be nice to have some more mobs for ambience. I think it would be better if they had new models though, and perhaps dropped something, like emeralds. Or something lesser...
How come nobody has thought of them dropping a piece of Glowstone Dust? Only one piece so you still would need the Nether for large quantities, but if you're a block short or just want a few for brewing then it saves a Nether trip.
If not Glowstone, then why not a new brewing ingredient? Makes you glow for a short while, or maybe it can be some other arthropod related thing to relate back to the Bane of Arthropods enchantment. Make the Glowworms rarer and have you find a little colony of them, and give them a low chance to drop a little Glow Sac or something that makes a potion that makes arthropods neutral or even friendly (helps you fight) until the effect wears out. Would make a cool, rare potion.
Maybe make it so you can catch them in a jar (or a bucket to keep it simple since they're already in) and place the 'Glowworm in a Bucket' as a small light source/decor item.
Maybe color coal or something, to make colored torches?
Not color coal, but maybe a substance that would be unique to glowworms. I support this idea but I think that they should drop something, for creation of colored torches. And also have a somewhat different model.

Light blue- sugar (0-1) (Common)
Green -slimeballs (yay, another way to get those besides hunting slimes!) (0-1, rare)
Red - redstone dust (1-2, common)
Dark blue: lapis lazuli (0-1, uncommon)
Yellow- glowstone dust (Always gives 1)
And now, to give normal silverfish a drop:
silverfish remains (1-2, common) Can be put into a 2x2 square in a crafting table to make one coal.
So, what do you think?
