Seeing that a lot of wars will be going on in Survival Multiplayer this will be useful.
I know instruments have been suggested before, but this one hasn't.
The bugle will be a simple instrument that will probably be made out of iron.
With this item you can play simple pieces of music that can be used for anything.
What will be good about this is that when you are having wars you can play "The Rouse" to signal your troops to wake up, or play another tune to signal to attack.
What will be bad about this is that people might play random notes at random times.
But if it is used correctly it will be very useful.
UPDATE:
I thought of 2 ways you can play the bugle.
1) When you play a bugle it opens a box that says open, or new. If you click new it opens a simple music composing screen, where you can save the music to your hard drive. If you choose open, you then choose the file, and it will start playing it automatically.
2) If you have the bugle in your hand you can press some keys on your keyboard and it will then play the note which goes with the key
I think that number 2 would be easier to use but number 1 would be better if you were sharing the music file with other people.

- Thank you slimes.
Intruments sound fun as hell. We could have an orchestra of intruments like the flute and violin and play them either manually with different keys or with a tune that we made ahead of time.
I thought having lots of instruments would be good, but then I thought that it would be harder to code, and also the bugle is a instrument that is normally used in wars.

You could craft it with some wood, a bar of metal, and the souls of chilBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
(Edit:) For real, though, I like this idea. It adds another layer of player interaction, a purely aesthetic one, that any good game needs.
A Vuvuzela would be alright, but the bugle would be better as it can play more notes.
As for playing the bugle I thought of 2 ways, both have been added to the first post.

instruments'd be rad but tbh I don't really dig either of these ways...though composing your own music does sound pretty awesome...
Maybe if there were like a music stand item or something that you could click on to compose your music, and it outputs a sheet of music. Sheet music stacks, and when you use any instrument it randomly chooses to play from one the sheets you're holding. If you have no sheet it'll just play a single tone. You could name your songs and if someone nearby is playing a song with the same name, you'll both synch up when you play so different people could play different parts of the same song. The song plays for as long as you're holding the action button, not until it's finished playing.
@Carcanken - Gold wouldn't really be a good idea as it is harder to find than iron, and it would make the item used less.
@Xion - I know it's a game but I would be easier without sheet music, to program and to use as you would only need one object and less materials.

navigating a "load song" screen every time you want to play just seems awkward and cumbersome to me, though. And I like games that use a bare minimum of keys (unless it's a roguelike ;P), but I guess that's more of a personal preference. Anyway, I dunno, just my two cents.
Another idea: the note your bugle plays depends on how high you're looking. Look way up in the air for a high note, down at the ground for a low one. Anyone ever seen jazz musicians? :biggrin.gif: (or star wars)
I actually thought of this while writing my last post but dismissed it since it would only really allow you to play notes on a continuum rather than playing a high note and low note immediately after one another, unless you can manage to "look" in the direction of the note you want to play really really fast. Also it could look hilariously strange to onlookers and be disorienting for players.
Maybe gold bugles would have a different, clearer sound than normal bugles?
But then again for the sheet music you would need to have a load screen because you might play the call for attack instead of the call for retreat. But then again that would be interesting....

How about instead of sheet music being a stack, it's more like a book, and the music stand, in addition to letting you compose music, would let you arrange the music in your book.
Each song would have position in the music book (so like, attack would be 1, retreat 2, victory 3, etc.) and the current song is shown as a number where normally the stack number would be.
You could use the scroll-wheel on yer mouse to choose scroll through the song positions, and for those without scroll-wheels, tap the left mouse button to decrease the position and tap the right to increase it. So for instance, say I want to play my "Enemy Alert" tune which is position 7 but my current song position is the "Happy Ditty" tune, position 3. I could either just scrollwheel up until I get to 7 or tap the right mouse button 3 times until the position is 7, and then hold it to play.
Also, hitting enemies with instruments should make funny sounds.

Signal bell is very long range, but large, cumbersome, and static.
Bugle is medium, and mobile.

but I think that would be an appropriate starting instrument, one note you put it to your lips everyone hears it then goes deaf!
lol

Either that, or make it out of iron, but make a high-quality one out of gold, for better range.
