So, has anyone else noticed how easy has become the new hard in minecraft? I've been talking with friends and we've noticed that most of us now put the game on peaceful a good 60% of the time. I personally love minecraft but I'm about to the point of burning my minecraft shirt. There has to be something that can be done.
My character goes days without any interruption. If only this could be a little spiced up and I'm like... oh yeah I had to turn peaceful on due to being harassed way too much. Now I personally think this whole thing could be fixed with something as simple as turning down spawn frequency. I'd even download a mod to get it done. I am a minecraft purist, but I've reached that point.
Now there are more mobs, I'm pretty sure they have gotten tougher, they have hunger even in easy (which it is much more managable, I'll give them that). But the point is, wow it's easy to die in easy. Could we have a torch that decreases spawning when it's held or something?
Or could we have better control over what happens in the game, maybe a couple settings extra. I know the programming wouldn't be too hard. I'd throw somemore bucks at it if it's a matter of not being supported enough. And I've sold my share of people into buying the game.
I'm the creative type, well obviously, I love minecraft. I don't like to know everytime I step into a dark cavern I won't have time to place any torches in peace. I will have to place them while I fight so new things don't show up before the battle is over.
Have the monsters been buffed? Am I doomed to mods? Are the creators fixing this? Cause I've seen nothing on it. I'd even buy the difference. Please no posts selling me third party mods.
Last question does anyone play hard anymore? Is there a need to anymore?
I raise my sword and say,
"By the power of MINECRAFT! I HAVE THE DIAMOND!"
I always play hard and I believe the game is too easy. If you have iron armor, the only excuse for death is an accident in a mining trip, or terrible fps drop around mobs.
I'm talking more at the beginning of the game pre-iron armor. But honestly I don't feel a difference between easy and hard anymore. I think some cool settings for hard would be pretty awesome.

Hunger's always been in easy mode... It's in every mode but Creative.
But I get what you mean. I wouldn't mind easy mode being toned down a bit in the difficulty scale.
Hey Paul,
Yes, in the most recent update we had some buffs to the enemies (skeletons now shoot faster if you move closer to them, zombies are 'smarter'), but it probably shouldn't be such a hassle in easy mode.
Have you tried some tips from the forums/wiki to make your life easier (enhance your gameplay)? Maybe you could keep your game on peaceful until you got your iron armor? Aren't you going too deep in a cave without preparations? Maybe you get too nervous around mobs?
When I first started playing minecraft, I was a little reckless too, so maybe that's the source of the problem. As Crawfish says, maybe they'll tone easy mode down a little in the future, but meanwhile you'll have to up your game or use a mod of sorts...
I always play hard and I believe the game is too easy. If you have iron armor, the only excuse for death is an accident in a mining trip, or terrible fps drop around mobs.
Easy mode:
Drastically reduced spawn rates (at least by a factor of 10).
Reduced max number of hostile mobs that are at the same time in the loaded chunks (at least by half).
Mobs have 20% reduced sight range.
All mobs move 20% slower, deal 50% less knockback, suffer +50% knockback, and have their attack rate 30% less quick.
Monster Spawner spawn half as many monsters at a greatly reduced rate.
Some mob and environmental changes:
Ghasts explosions deal less damage.
Lava exposition deals less damage.
Suffocation and fire damage occurs slower.
etc.
Normal: Mostly the same as currently.
Hard mode:
Mobs have 33% increased sight range.
All mobs move 10% faster, deal 25% more knockback, have 40% knockback resistance, and attack 10% faster.
Mobs will make full use of group tactics:
Zombies: when one zombie attacks, all nearby zombies also attack, BUT the leading zombie will move a bit slower while trailing zombies will move a bit faster, and all move to "suroound and gang up" on the player.
Skeletons: will move away from the player to try to keep a distance, will "turn corners" by using the widest gap possible (instead of the shortest path, with you waiting to melee strike right after the corner), and shoot one arrow hen duck back behind cover. Will try to position themselves so that the knockback will make you fall into a deep pit, or ideally lava.
Creepers: will move even MORE silently, and tend to slightly better time their explosions in order to blow up REALLY CLOSE to you. when there is more a creeper in a group of creatures, they avoid sataying close to the creeper so that when the creeper blows up, the other mobs aren't killed and you still have to deal with them.
Spiders: Gain the capability to fully Walk on ceilings and walls to get the drop on you.
Pigmen: Always hostile. Yup, don't go into the Nether unprepared!
Ghasts: Better fireball targeting, and their fireballs always have a chance of being undeflectectable.
Silverfish: The odds of waking up other the silverfishes increases a lot.
It's not that SSP Vanilla Minecraft on easy is difficult for me.... It's just so boring..... SMP (Non-Vanilla though never tried Vanilla) on the other hand is fun especially on the hard setting.
Awesome feed back. Yeah I removed my comment about the new skeleton "tommy gun" as I call it. hehe. Sounded too whiney. But I'll put back just the part of "SKELETON TOMMY GUN". Ouatcheur dude I would love those mods. _pagan Yeah I'll check out the tips thanks. Actually though I'd say I'm less reckless. I remember the days I'd walk into the nether with nothing but a stone sword and some cobblestone, eating rotten flesh, no armor... I'm bragging now. I'll have to make a new topic for that. Very seperate topic though.
To the rest of you thanks for the comments. To anyone else. I'll still read them feel free to post um. mmmm... postum.
Or, just remove "peaceful" altogether and call it "easy". Easy is one mode I personally never use anyway. I'm always on normal, hard, or peaceful.
That could just be me though. I suppose there are benefits to having mobs spawn on easy mode, in which case the proposed edits of decreasing spawn rates would be pretty apt. I think adding a new item just to compensate for the difficulty is a little much though, although I do like the idea in general.

That was completely unnecessary.
Hard mode isn't quite hard enough.

etc.

And, you know, furniture and stuff.
