Mining can be such a pain if you keep running into lava and dying. there have been many ways to deal with this. some use mini-maps, some remove lava from the world entirely, and some just deal with it and keep on mining with a high risk of losing all their diamonds/other stuff. I do not want to do any of these.
There have already been new effects to lava added recently, such as lava particles dripping from the celing and a new sound. But what if the lava is right on the other side of a wall (not above you, so you cant see any dripping particles) and you mine the wall? Bam! Dead! Well... I think that there should be an option to make any block directly adjacent to lava glow faintly, so if you are about to dig straight into lava, you could see the glow on the block and say "oh! there is lava there! i had better find another place to mine!" and not die from the lava at all whatsoever!
More calculations like this would slow the game down, especially on older machines. Another alternative would be to change your method of mining by standing over a trench before you knock down a wall. I haven't died from lava while mining since my first week of playing minecraft.
Personally, I think that lava moves slowly enough for you to plug the hole. I like having to be cautious when I'm mining. Considering many things come easily now in the game it seems.
No support. Avoiding lava while mining is WAY too easy as is. It moves VERY slow, so you shouldn't have this problem unless you like to constantly hold your move forward button. And as you even said, it does make sound, so you can hear it from the other side of that wall.
Well really it would take the fun out of mining, it always fun and exicting when you dont know whats going to happen also when ever mining always bring a water bucket with you or you will die and never ever mine straight dow
I can understand where you are coming from but that just takes all the fun out of mining
Really, if you don't know how to deal with lava your a noob. I ALWAYS mine as far away as i can possibly reach, and i never mine straight down. And I'm especially cautious when i find diamonds, lava is more prone to be in those areas.

There is no increased diamond ore spawn rate near lava pools, it's just let's you see exposed blocks, which may be a diamond ore block.

Thats why i dont want to use a mini-map or remove the lava from the world using something like mc-edit

So you just have to deal with it
That's not what anyone does. lLava moves so slow, you just place a block like you just opened a portal to hell.
