So, I dunno about everyone else, but whenever I see a tall mountain, I love to climb them. Well here is my new boss idea.
I know there are 10000000 suggestions for new bosses, and that's fine. But hear me out, you might like it!
Idea: There is 1 mountain in the overworld that is taller than the rest. It goes higher than 256 blocks. Being the adventurer you are, you want to climb this tall mountain. But as you climb, you realize, you cannot place blocks higher than 256 blocks. That's the challenge. The mountain WOULD BE POSSIBLE to climb. You could break blocks, but not place them. So after a few minutes, or hours of attempting to climb this massive mountain, you wonder, what could be at the top? why am I making all this effort? Well, there is a dragon up there.
Boss: This would be just like the enderdragon in some senses. It would be a red dragon that flies around this mountain, but could not go under 256 blocks. It would act similar to the enderdragon, and take damage similar to the enderdragon, except it can shoot "fireballs" from it's mouth.(similar to a ghast)
Reward: I don't have a clue, it could be anything. I'll let you guys decide about that.
Where: Depending on the location of your spawn when the world is first generated, it would spawn within a 3,000 block square. To find it you could craft the red compass that would point you in the direction that you would need to walk to get there
.
To craft, place 4 redstone dusts around a compass.
I know what people are going to say. It would be hard to implement. You're probably right, but it could just be considered another dimension above the 256 line.
Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
This feels very Tolkien's The Hobbit to me. Akin to the Lonely mountain. Is that what you were going for?
kind of, also with a small twist from Skyrim, with my own twist. I just think it would be a neat to be walking around and see this massive mountain in front of you.
Adding a compass would make the dragon too easy to find and defeat the whole adventuring/exploring part whereas the ender dragon presents a challenge as you have to actually go out and look.

true... but don't the eye of Enders point you right to the stronghold?
what would you suggest? Maybe the crafting recipe would be harder, or maybe it would just be a random find.
No fireballs though, there’s enough of those already. How about a Mountain Giant, and minons, that throws stones that can knock you back 1-3 squares (cubes). Since you’re atop a mountain, you’ll really not want to be hit by them as you plan your attack.
Being random to find would be near impossible as it would probably be hard to tell apart from any other extreme hill.
Actually no. The mountain he is suggesting would actually go above the current hight limit. So it would be quite easy to tell the difference between it and the normal extreme hills that hardly reach the cloud layer for the most part.

yes, but it wouldn't be easy to find it plain and simple. It could take forever to find it. Maybe if I took nether quarts instead of redstone to find it? Nether quarts blocks around a compass.

yeah i could understand that. But I really want it to be the Red Dragon that was supposed to be implemented with the ender dragon. But its not like there will be mobs on the side of the mountain.
If its the dragon, he could see you trying to climb, and attempt to hit you while you climb. Then when you get to the top, you could attack.

True but once you find it it would be rather obvious what you were looking at and not look like just any other extreme hill. And that was my point. That it wouldn't just blend in perfectly with the rest of the environment.

but once you find it, you probably wouldn't want to climb it. Especially since if you fall off the mountain higher than 256 that's a death.

Why are you trying to argue this? All I was doing was pointing out to some one else the details of your own suggestion. If you think having it that tall is a bad idea than change it. It was your idea, not mine. Seriously, you're basically arguing against yourself right now.
And I'm pretty sure falling 13 or more blocks is an instant death anyways, so that logic doesn't really work because climbing just about any large hill in the game and fallin all the way off would kill you.

I'm not arguing. and I'm just saying that it's a challenge
Blocks going above block limit? I dont think that would work with the Minecraft we have now...
But I do love the idea of a single mountain going higher than the rest.
Why not add an original theme to it?
I say Lightning race which makes use of the Charged Creeper
And in order to find the mountain, you need to kill one Charged Creeper. They a rare, but always have a chance to drop one Lightning Charge. Craft it with Eye of Ender, you recieve a Seeking Charge. Wait for a Thunderstorm, right click with the Seeking Charge and it will create a ray of lightning which leads you to the Dragon. The ray of lightning has a strobe effect and will continuously appear and disappear for 10 seconds. Cool right?
The Red Dragon should breathe lightning instead of fire to be a little original.

Tell me what you think! (:
wow I completely forgot...
Well, there would be some math involved. Depending on your ORIGINAL spawn point. It would calculate within 3,000 blocks of your spawn.
Maybe you could create a new type of compass that would just point you to the direction it is in.

Something like The eye of ender? Possible.
but i feel like that is just for the enderdragon. See my original post, I added a concept image.

Its minions? You think about them.
