Okay, I know this might have been suggested before, but I couldn't find a post about it.
Also, I know a lot of people probably won't want this, because pipes are already in so many mods.
But anyways, on with the idea:
Pipes for hoppers. You know how you sometimes want to transport items over long distances?
Well, this will fix the problem! Sure, multiple hoppers connected together work just fine, but
who has the iron for that? And what about storage carts? Yes, I know those work, but those are
a pain to set up, and also to keep running. Water? water is pretty slow at transporting items, and
also water has to go down 1 block every 8 blocks in order to keep the items flowing.
Here is a solution to long-distance item transportation: pipes that connect to hoppers!
This is a cheap, easy way to transport your items over long distances.
Pipes would work exactly the same as a line of hoppers, but would just transport items instead of
taking them in. Pipes would be able to transport items a long 32 blocks before requiring a hopper to keep them going.
Pipes require 6 iron ingots to make 16 pipe. 3 ingots across the top, 3 across the bottom.
Pipes can transport one item at a time, and can transport 4 items a second. If there is a block that is not a hopper
at the end of the pipes, the pipes would jam and items would not flow anymore, each pipe getting one item stuck
in it, all the way back to the hopper the items came from. If there is no hopper at the end of the pipes, they would drop
the items out, just like a dropper would. Unlike hoppers, pipes do not have an inventory screen, meaning you can not
right click them to see what items go through them.

Pipes would work something like this:
╙╥╜ = hopper
═ = pipe
█o█ = chest
I would have to agree with this, because a line of hoppers just looks a bit silly to me. I know we already have minecarts for this, but pipes would just look better overall.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.
Mojang has said that they don't want pipes, I believe. Part of the reason for this update is getting people to use minecarts again, and putting in pipes makes minecarts, once again, obsolete.
this would make mine carts useless again.
MINEcraft is a game where you MINE resources and build making the mine carts useful again is something they are doing right
I support. Minecarts suck at transporting items. If mojang wants us to use minecarts more, they need to add some sort of comparator for storage minecarts I can afford lots of hoppers due to my iron farm, but regardless, they need to add this.

Not everyone has the time, knowledge, or ability to set up overly complex systems to use minecarts as effective transports.
I understand the reasoning for not adding pipes, but not everything in this game has to be about elaborate contraptions to do a simple task that the pipe would allow for.
Make it work like redstone and only allow for limited distance transport. That way minecarts are still valid for long distance.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
So it sounds like Mojang's plan to make minecarts more useful is to absolutely make everything else suck? I don't use minecarts because they're a huge pain in the butt. How about Mojang fixes that first before worrying about other options being too good
Anyway, about the suggestion itself - I like it. From a purely aesthetic point of view, I think it looks better than a conga line of hoppers. Mechanically, I think it makes sense to have a option that functions like a hopper, but is only point-to-point and therefore requires fewer resources.
Finally, I think that adding pipes to the game has the advantage of being an excellent starting point for more additions. For example, combine a pipe and redstone dust to get a redstone pipe. Redstone pipes are insulated from any device they aren't directly connected to (including other redstone pipes) and can be run vertically.
Anyway, sorry to highjack the thread a little. Support!

the whole point of this idea is so we don't have to craft 19 hoppers.
