Then make glowstone only drop 1 dust, mineable only with a diamond pickaxe, and cost 9 dust again, instead of 4.
Edit: And make it non-silk-touchable, and volatile (has a 1/25 chance of exploding with each block update)
That is one of the worst ideas I've seen in my years. There is a block update around every 70 seconds or so, and having to mine 9 Glowstone Blocks for a single Glowstone Block would equate to around one block per entire cluster of Glowstone.

You know, there's a difference between constructive criticism and hating. Yeah, it was a bad idea, but it was a joke, (like Talons said) and even if he were serious, you could at least put it more nicely.

I don't hate him or his post, I just hate his idea and I expressed it as such.
Also, jokes aren't allowed on the forums according to certain moderators.
Besides, it's not like I could have said it any nicer without failing to get my point across.

Saying explicitly that you hate somebody's idea could hurt their feelings if they saw it. I can't exactly say that without it looking stupid. Also, you don't have to be a hard-ass on the rules.
Doesn't mean it wasn't better. I'm not saying that I don't want this idea, i'm just saying that the original system is better.
The original system was silliness. Why? Because the potions made have no correlation with the recipe. This means that you can make fairly much any potion with a far smaller variety of ingredients, so long as you know the portion sizes. The new system, though it might not be as fun, is almost certainly better for game balance.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.

Fair point, but that doesn't mean that the old system couldn't be changed to be more balanced.
Also, while you can make a lot of potions with a few ingredients, that doesn't mean they will be good potions. While that potion you just made might have 18 minutes of fire resistance, it also has 10 minutes of Poison II... and you definitely don't want to be drinking that. It would take a more experienced alchemist to create an effective potion, and skill almost doesn't exist in Minecraft.
rubies, corn, rabbit feet, and worm teeth would benefit from alternate uses. examples are: corn->popcorn, worm teeth->crysknives. Many vanilla potion ingredients have multiple uses, like carrot=food, melon=food, sugarcane->paper. Especially, I wouldn't want an ore just for potion brewing, so rubies need at least one other use. perhaps to craft bottles o enchanting?
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.

Otherwise, great idea! especially the sponges!
Yes, I agree, sort of how spider eyes had more than one use when they were introduced to the game. I'm not completely sure you should be able to craft bottles o' enchanting with rubies, but they should be craftable. But yes, this would be a good use for rubies as well.

As far as I am able to tell, brewing has never been like that, even old brewing. All potions have always been just one type.

I'm sure the items would get other uses, but I can't put down too much with out going of the basic idea of adding the rest of the potions. I was pushing it when I was suggesting corn.

Nah. Everyone wants corn. We get potatoes and carrots, but not the second most grown crop in the entire world? Corn is just something everyone has to love.

Oh, and I'm thinking of making blindness potions corrupted nausea potions. Their effect would be very brief for blindness is very powerful.
Praise be to Spode.
Edit: What the, Usually it would have made this as an edit of my last post. Ugh.

Why not just use the edit button to begin with, I wonder?

I would like some of those potions to be added, while the others are already possible with enchantments and beacon blocks.
