I love this idea! However, I think written books should have a different texture to regular books, so you can see which bookshelves have written books stored in them. Perhaps have the default texture but slightly purple?
Support.
Still not sure until now what to put for the written books
Awesome ideas! The birch shelf was good, it was just the wrong shade of wood, it needed to be more beige.
Some other book ideas:
Village books: The Creator
Found in Churches
Page 1: Contents
1. Intro
2. Banishment of Mobs
3. The dawn of the dead (See what I did there? Hidden reference just like some of the achievements)
1. They say our souls were created by that of a person named Notch... He created our world and guarded us for many years until his time was due, although his spirit guards us every day and night, and protects us from the worst of all evils.
2. When Notch was around, he realised some of the abominations he caused and tried to put a stop to it, although their power nearly overwhelmed him. He used his last efforts to banish the apocalyptic ones to other worlds, only accessible via a 4x5 frame of purple rock. He also trapped half the mobs into 'cages' to restrict their bad intentions.
3. When Notch's time was due, he left the world, but didn't leave it unguarded. To this very day, they say his spirit arises with the sun to burn all the mobs that caused terror during the night.
Mineshaft books: Daily Routine
Found in the center of the Mineshaft [the dirt room] in a chest. The chest contains this book and a bunch of bones, some leather, rotten flesh and some of the original mineshaft loot.
Day 1: We got caved in and shut out from the rest of the world, we've been mining for hours in hope of finding a way back but the tunnels just keep winding back here.
Day 2:
Low on food and wood supplies, don't know how long we have left. We have collected seeds out of the food we ate but we don't have enough light or water down here to farm it.
Day 3:
A cage has been sighted, it contained a mob of some sorts trapped inside. There has been rumours of a person named Notch who used to rule, who trapped half the world's mobs into cages. Could they be true?
Day 4:
I'm the last of my crew, the rest died fighting off that mysterious cage, they didn't get to destroy it in time. I'm nearly gone myself, only the hope of escape kept me going but the cage lead us nowhere. There is no food or wood left and I'm poisoned by one of those foul beasts. I'm tired, I'll think I'll just rest a bit...
The Cage
Found in regular mineshaft chests
I see a deadly cage of some sorts, that has vicous spiders unlike any I've ever seen. I need a closer look, I'll come back and alert the crew after.
Stronghold books: The Ender
Rumour has it that this frame here leads to another world in which some of the worst mobs were banished to. Ofcourse, this is just folklore, but people seem quite sure about it and there isn't another explanation. Further rumours suggest it needs to be 'activate' with some artificial eyes that are drawn here.
End Game: The End
Just a copy of the credits in book form. Appears on the ground after being teleported back.
Still dont know about the end game credits in book form. And where will it be found?
Docm77 was talking to Mojang about this and it probabally will be added later on. If they do get added into the game then I will use them for a library and I will put enchanted books in them. I think there was a mod for this by the way. I remember seeing the mod way back in beta.

Really? As in this topic? If that was it, then wow I am really surprised
Looks really cool, but I think that only books and paper shud be kept in bookshelves.
I think the same, otherwise it could be so hard to mojang to implement it what can make it and unavailable option
also i don´t find the other things a real use,
but the placement on bookshelves could help if you don´t have the exactly quantify of books,
I think maybe will be better if the bookshelf has just one hole when you put the books and them stack
it will make it more quick

I support! I love this idea. Basically it's just the same principle than the chest, but in the form of a bookshelf that shows an image of what you put in.
And stacking the books I wrote in libraries...... Ho gosh!!!! What an excellent idea!!!! I could write the whole story of the medieval gameworld I'm creating and also hide some quests clues in it!!!! RRRRHHHHHAAAAHAHHH !!!!!!(like homer lol)
So if there are 6 books in the bookshelf it can be pushed by pistons like the bookshelf block can currently?
Oh, no. It is still a Tile Entity. That is the drawback of implementing this. Sorry. But you could stack up on the regular bookshelves like how some people stacked up on the old non-burnable wooden slabs and still had it now. (Sorry for the starting worlds though)
Upvote yet? Lol jk.
Anyways, mutton is oversuggested

Well, this a different question.
Also, will it drop on the dragon slayer's spawn point?

Full support!
Constantly evolving, reaching further heights.
You can. 6 books.
So, did they talk about when it will be added?
What about enchanting and written books?
