Of course, we all want biodiversity in the Ocean Biome. And I have thought of a way to do so.
I know we all want these:
-Seaweed being uncollidable
-Sea Sponge being slippery Both of these can be done by entities, since some are collidable while some are not.
And these are ways to spawn an entity:
-Monster Spawner
-Spawn Egg What about, we make these entities drop their spawn eggs, which look like their item forms but when used, will spawn them?
This brings the idea.
Sponges and Seaweed
Sponges (They should have pores, I forgot to put them)
These are currently in-game, but only as blocks, which was added for the sake of pixel art before dyed wool were introduced to make yellow color. These are currently impossible to get and yet they do not function anymore (Their old function was to remove any water from a 5x5 area and prevent any of them from flowing in the area.)
Now, I want them to:
-Spawn as entities in Ocean biomes, on any stone or dirt block under y=60 and above y=40 if there is water in the spawning block itself. It looks like the ones on the picture but could face in four different directions to add to the randomness.
-Immobile
-Collidable
-Has five health points and when killed, it drops 1 Sponge (item)
-Does not despawn, but each Ocean biome Slime Chunk checks if there are less than 20 in the chunk. If there are, it will try to spawn more. Spawning conditions are followed. Will spawn a baby version which is also immobile and will grow after 20 minutes, and will not drop anything yet as a "baby"
-Sponge (item) functions as a spawn egg where when you right click, it will spawn the sponge, but if not in water, it will dry (regardless of block.) If in water but not on a Stone or a Dirt, it will die and drop itself again.
-Dried Sponge (entity) (Note: It will look like the original shape but with this color. I just forgot to make a copy without the vision effects)
--When a sponge entity meets the drying requirements, it's color and entity ID will change and becomes harder and will have more hit points (to make it harder to break)
--When killed, it will dropped Dried Sponge (item) which is also a spawn egg that can be crafted in a 4x4 square to make the Sponge block.
--You can spawn it on any block for display, and can even be put in clay pots for display as well.
-Sponge (block)
--When beside flowing water, each block touching the flow removes 1 block (from sides and bottom, not top since water does not occupy a full block.) (Flowing water that touches the sponge are the only ones affected, thus making it still possible that a different water source could fill up an air block for the water that is being somehow absorbed)
Seaweed
-Spawns as entities in Ocean biomes, on dirt blocks, inside water source blocks, below y=60 and above y=40
-Can grow to become bigger if there is enough space above, and only by chance. Means that if it fails to get that chance, it's height will be like that forever (To add randomness to the game)
--Different stages (Basically, baby to adult but with more stages)
---First Stage 100%: Only 0.5 blocks high (100% means there is a 100% chance one can grow into this)
---Second Stage 75%: 1.25 blocks high (75% means that there is a 75% chance on can grow into this)
---Third Stage 50%: 1.75 blocks high
---Fourth Stage 25%: 2.5 blocks high
---Fifth Stage 10%: 3.25 blocks high
-Slime Chunks in Ocean Biomes check if there are less than 50 in the chunk, If there is, it will try to spawn more of the first stage, and those will continuously try to grow. Spawning conditions are followed.
-Can be smelted to make Dark Green Dye, which can be dyed on Wool or Sheep to recolor them.
-Non-Collidable
-Has 5 hearts
-Drops seaweed (Higher drop chance the higher the seaweed is)
Advantages
-Fishing Hooks have a higher chance of catching fish while passing by seaweed blocks.
Disadvantages
-Fishing Hooks get stopped by sponges and trying to unreel will cost twice the health
Q: Why are they entities? A: To be able to have water flowing through their blocks

Well, As of what I could think of. But Lapis is currently only for dye. And their growth system can be used to help locate a slime chunk
I'll let you guess it.
Sushi!!!
Yeah fish on top, seaweed on bottom.
