Pigmen are a mob that has not been used in minecraft. I have an idea for them.
There could be a new building added to the NPC villages. It would be called a Mercenary hut. It would contain 1-2 pigmen. It would look like this, very simple.
Outside of house.
Inside of house.
Chest contents.
The hut's have a workbench and 0-2 chests. The hut's are also don't need stairs to access there doors. If you think they should say so. The chests contain these items -
Wood Sword - 50%
Stone Sword - 25%
Iron Sword - 12%
Wood Pickaxe - 55%
Stone Pickaxe - 30%
Iron Pickaxe - 14%
Fishing Rod - 20%
Raw Fish - 15%
Apples - 20%
Sugar Cane - 75%
Seeds - 95%
Wheat - 65%
Pumpkin Seeds - 45%
Raw Chicken - 30%
Carrots - 7%
If an item is stackable, there can be up to 7 items. If you take from their chest and they have not been hired, they will attack you.
The Pigmen could also be hired as Mercenaries, or Helpers whichever. They can be hired to do 1 job, such as fish, or hunt. When you right click on them, a GUI will show up, which allows you to place armor in armor slots, and weapons or tools in 1 slot. They can hold swords, fishing rods, pickaxes and maps. While holding swords, if you attack something, they will attack it. If there holding fishing rods, and yours is in the water, there's will be in the water. With maps, they will follow you, mapping were they go. If there holding a pickaxe, they will automatically mine coal, iron, gold, lapis lazuli and diamonds. The ores must be in your vision. If lava is in there way they will go around, or if there isn't a way around they will ignore it. They are normally passive to pigmen, but they may where pumpkins.

They have a 1 bar inventory.They have as many hearts as the player. The have no hunger or experience. You can give and take things out of there inventory, they will not get mad. If you attack them when there hired/not hired they will attack you, but you have to attack them 3 times. To hire them, right click on a pigmen when there not hired, it opens a 1 slot GUI and what they want you to pay them with above. They except 9-10 emeralds.

Hmmm...sounds like a okay idea.
Normal Pigmen would finally be in the game.
I think that they should attack you if you attack them 2-3 times in a short time,so if you accidently hit them they don't instantly attack you.
Its a nice idea.
Not over-powered because you need to find a village and get emeralds to hire them.
Edit - Oh and I almost forgot to say that this would be good for adventure maps.

allso can they be hired as gurds and if they can can you give them commands like patroll and they follow lit up redstone or guard and they stand wer there standing

2. There not zombie pigmen, there normal pigmen! and no, that would be difficult to code.
Honestly I've always despised the idea of pigmen. To me (I understand that most of the community will disagree) the concept of non-zombie pigmen is overused. Sorry but no support.

2-If you really want an answer zombie pigmen are pigs struck by lightning or pigs that got "corrupted" by the nether.

Maybe different pigmen could have different occupations and Only do one job (hunter, miner, fisher, etc.) like normal villagers. would hunters protect the village like iron golems? How would their AI work around other mobs such as zombies? Do they have a natural tendency to protect normal pigs? Do they eat carrots like normal pigs?

They don't get mad if you eat pork in front of them. They could have skin variants, but I prefer no occupations. They wouldn't protect the villagers, they would protect themselves, same thing around hostiles expect creepers, wither and all other flying mobs, they would automatically attack them if they were in a 18 block radius. They don't protect pigs. The will eat carrots! I will put that as their chest loot!

I've got an idea: what if, instead of finding them in villages, you find them by curing zombie pigmen the same way you cure zombie villagers. That would take out the loot chest, but maybe you could make it so (bear with me, I'm stretching it here) they go to the nearest portal and find the nearest house (probably yours unless you're based in a village) and drop their loot chest and chill there until hired.
