I believe that if you mix TNT with flint in a crafting grid, it should create shrapnel TNT. This new TNT would have a blast radius equal to that of the current version, but would spew shrapnel (fragments of metal/flint) equally in all directions. Without increasing the blast radius, this increases the kill zone of a tnt to approximately 50 blocks. Ofocurse with projectile protection you could probably survive at a range of less than 50 blocks.
Sounds interesting but the only problem I can think of is the fact of lighting it, if you don't use redstone on tnt and activate it by hand you can only just run away without getting blown to pieces anyway, a 50 radius distance is quite extreme and is basically a very expensive form of tnt that would only be good practically in the end.
Can be triggered by arrows/redstone/pressure plate, anything really
Do you even think about most of your suggestions before you make them?
1 piece of TNT requires 4 sand and 5 Gunpowder, which are very easy to get. This is why TNT only creates a relatively small explosion that is easily avoided.
If you were able to add 1 piece of Flint to it, which again is extremely easy to get, and then upgrade your TNT to be able to obliterate anything within 50 blocks (That's several chunks), then that's ridiculously overpowered.
Please, try and think more into balancing your ideas before you make a ridiculous post like this...
How do you think i could balance it? Maybe use an iron ingot instead of a flint for a more realistic shrapnel? Also iron is harder to get.
Iron is indeed harder to get than flint, but still not enough. You'd have to use something really, really rare to even begin balancing this out, and even then you should decrease the radius.
What about a solid diamond block, that splinters, with the diamond sharsd being the shrapnel?

This idea would be alot better if the range was lowered and if it wasn't flint or iron. I think maybe the shrapnel could be flint and iron if the matieral affects the range like 7 for flint 10 for iron and 13 for obsidian or more. Or just keep it obsidian because obsidian is only used for portals, decoration and protection, so why not make it for something lethal?
Awesome! If it takes adjustable flint and increases the damage per flint to entities(not blocks) it would be way cooler. 10-20 blocks entity damage radius, I say.
This is....waaaaaay too overpowered as it currently stands. I do question whether you really thought about this.
First off, a blast radius of 50 blocks is ridiculous, especially if it serves as a 1-hit kill to any unarmored players within that radius. Perhaps if you reduced it so any unarmored players within 5 blocks were insta-killed, then the damage decreases from there (maybe with a full shrapnel radius of 15 blocks), it would be a bit more balanced.
Secondly, simply using flint as an additional crafting point is not that great, either, considering how much additional damage it creates. Perhaps a TNT block surrounded by iron ingots (assuming you're going with my reduced range balancing, as well) would help to make players from making thousands of these on servers.
Thirdly, think of what this would actually be good for. Currently, just about every single item that I can think of is useful primarily for survival - that is, when the items were introduced, the initial idea was to make something useful for Survival Mode. Not geared towards PvP or any of that. This shrapnel-TNT would only really be uniquely useful in a PvP setting, not in a survival setting. Therefore, even if you were able to balance the object so it wasn't incredibly overpowered, the chances of it being added are slim because it does not provide any new use that something else in the game is already capable of doing (i.e. causing damage from afar)

Ill ad that into the opening post later, thanks for the idea!

I agree about the first paragraph, those are my thoughts put into words =)
However, this can be used for survival... TNT mob traps, etc. It would be epic for TNT cannoneering, because the saturation-bombing of NPC villages (and player-made cities) would be much more effective against entities. However, I think flint is a better idea than iron, because 1.Iron has a lot of uses already, 2. Flint can be used for Arrows and Flint and Steel, and that's about it, 3. If I wanted shrapnel coming off a block of TNT IRL, between flint and an iron casing, I would just stick flint in the sides of the block. If you could adjust the amount of flint you put into each block, therefore adjusting the entity damage radius, that could be useful for small-area effect shot meant to eliminate people/mobs in a specific target area without killing anyone outside of it.

@gypsyblackmagic You're welcome =)
Thanks for the support!
Do you think the crafting recipe should have 1 flint of surrond the whole thing with flint?
Do you think the crafting recipe should have 1 flint of surrond the whole thing with flint?
Thanks matey.
Well what I meant was that if you craft 1 flint with it, it's entity damage area is slightly increased, 2 flint crafted will increase it to a bit more, etc. until 8 flint crafted, and that would make the entity damage radius like 20 or something =) Or the entity damage radius would always be 20 and more flint increases the damage and killzone.
HOW CAN YOU GUYS DOWNVOTE SUCH AN AWESOME IDEA????

How about, for each extra flint you put in the crafting recipe, it adds 10 blocks to the kill radius?

Have you even been reading the responses to your thread? Almost everyone has repeatedly mentioned how overpowered the kill radius is. You can't just ignore any feedback that doesn't constantly praise you, that defeats the point of feedback.

Yeah, I mean 10 blocks per flint would be way OP. maybe one block =)

The entities arent visible, they just harm everything, kills unarmed player within 50 blox

Iron blocks all around the side of the TNT, that's 72 iron- hard to get but possible.
