Hello! Let me start this off by saying how much I love Minecraft. It's a great game. The time just flies while playing it. I have caught myself playing this game for too long so many times, because the game keeps me so occupied. To think such a simple concept would be one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had...
That being said, I'm kind of concerned about where the game is going. Looking at footage from the newest snapshot, for instance, I can't help but feeling that the whole thing is going too far. The thing that triggered this thought for me was the GIFs that you can hang on the wall. I mean, what? It doesn't fit the game in any way.
Even so, I'm quite aware that keeping a game hot and popular is a difficult thing. You need to work on it continuously, and you can't avoid neither major or minor changes.
As a lot of other players here, I've enjoyed this game since the beginning. I kind of miss how Minecraft was back then. The old sounds and the even simpler gameplay... it has a nostalgic value. That's not anything new, I've seen this happening with loads of other games. World of Warcraft is the best example I can think of at the moment. Also, I have read countless times about other players feeling (more or less) the same way as me.
What I'm saying is that it would be terrific if we had a choice of versions to download. I'm sure there are other ways for us gamers to achieve the same thing, but it would be very handy to just find it on the download screen on Minecraft.net.
I'm sure I'm not the first one to suggest this (or at least something like this), but I just felt like making a post about it.
Nevertheless, I do appreciate that Minecraft is prioritized and that you guys are good at communicating with your audience.
The gifs are only possible with MCPatcher, so you won't see that unless you are modded. And also, the game is still the same, with more stuff added on top, no problems but the hunger bar (which I like but still think should be toggleable, if only to stop people whining about it). All of the new stuff is optional, you don't have to use it. So don't complain.
Also, if you want to use old versions, try MCNostalgia.

Again, this doesn't really have anything to do with my suggestion, but thanks for trying.
Just a reminder: The suggestion is that they make older version available for download. It doesn't matter how many ways around there is, that's the suggestion.

And the suggestion is both rule-breaking and redundant. Not to mention the way you laid it out (describing non-existing features as making the game bad) brings down the thread even more than the suggestion itself.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
Lol, I've been looking at other topics here, and it doesn't seem people in here are too friendly in general, just spitting in everybody's faces therefore, I'm going to withdraw.
The way I see it, the various Minecraft updates work exactly the same way as traditional game sequels.
Civilization 5 was a vastly different game from Civilization 4, for example. It had a number of changes that people complained about because they didn't fit the "Civ" style of game (such as the hex grid and the "one unit per tile" system). Likewise with every previous installment, they each added, altered and removed game features in ways that angered some players, and pleased others.
Minecraft's updates are kinda the "modern" incarnation of game sequels, really. Instead of having developers make a game, then perhaps make an x-pack or two and move on to the next one, we have a game with develoepers who have decided to run with it indefinitely, continouously making new updates that users can download because we're blessed with high-speed Internet.
Naturally, as with game sequels and expansion packs, these updates are welcomed by some, and disliked by others. I personally like most of the new ideas in MC, such as the RPG elements, and yet I respect that other people find them unneccessary. But I appreciate that the devs are taking the time and effort to build on the game rather than abandoning it for some kind of "Minecraft 2".
Just wanted to throw that out there .

People, especially oldtimers, grow tired of seeing endless reruns of the same threads. Perfectly understandable.
I know how you feel, I would like to play Minecraft once without modding and breaking my .minecraft. Ive never played 1.7.3. I played before, and after, but I would like to play it.
If you make a good, thought out suggestion then no one is going to 'spit' in your face.
Come on man, of course I know what critism is. It's a good thing. The critism isn't what stuns me, the way it's presented is. Not only here, but also in other threads with "poor" suggestions. It's not even close to necessary. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hurt or anyting, but the atmosphere in here just caught me with my pants down.

Yes, that's understandable. What's not understandable is the need of replying. If the "oldtimers" is tired of endless returns, they should just ignore those threads. It's that simple. Acting like a moderator doesn't benefit themselves or anyone else. If the thread is unnessecary and in any way harmful to the forum's attractiveness, actual moderators or administrators will handle that problem.
Anyway, there's no point in discussing this matter, as it's far off topic, so I'm going to enjoy my Minecraft gameplay and let us agree to disagree.

I made a suggestion that several people liked. It was on making Endermen scarier and slightly more powerful. I had not a single negative comment. Everyone who had a bone to pick with the idea list, suggested an improvement or a modification. There wasn't enough people on my thread to keep it going, but no one seemed adverse to the idea.
The true problem with your thread, is that you're asking for something that already exists.
Use MCnostalgia, or hunt the Internet for an old .jar file. Or ask one of the "old-timers" for a .jar file from 1.7 or what-not. Don't ask for something that already exists.
You are wrong. The true problem with this thread is that people like you don't care to read the suggestion ("what I'm asking for").
I'll say it one more time: I wish the older versions would appear on the download page. No, that doesn't exist.
I feel as tho Minecraft is going way to far in the RPG or wizardry (whatever you want to call it) type of game. Like the new beacon for example, its just plain out retarded and I dont understand the point of them adding it. Even the heads of a creeper, skeleton, etc are stupid as well. I wish there was a way we could select and deselect all the things they are adding. ever sense 1.8, the game has only gotten a couple features that are ok, like the hunger and lighting system and animals not despawning, etc...

There is, it's called not using it.

Oh, it's THIS post again.
This sort of comment is always worth less than the thread. If the thread is unnecessary, mods/admins will handle it.
Thanks for the tip, but it still doesn't match my suggestion.

I support gas pockets in MC (see thread in Suggestions)!
