Combining an eye of ender with an awkward potion will give you this. It will last only one minute to prevent it from being too overpowered, and will only allow you to see through blocks within a 10 block radius to prevent abuse. It would make every block at 5%-10% transparency aside from the pixels on the edge of blocks.
This would be useful for navigating caves, maybe finding ores, and looking into other people's houses... This may seem a little overpowered, but this could be tweaked. Also it would be very difficult to find ores like this, so it wouldn't be a very viable method of seeking diamonds.
one whole minute! NO, this is way too OP. even if it did last for 3 seconds, you could find diamonds easily. Finding diamonds should feel like a reward, and cheating obviously doesn't help that. You should work on this a lot more.
Read the post. It doesn't just show where the ores are. It gives all the blocks within 10 blocks of it (I'd prefer 4, not 10) transparency, so stfu. (Take it from someone who uses Zombe's mod a lot)
But yes it should last shorter though. Maybe 30 seconds.
Seeing through walls is not as much used for mining as you may think. Aside from cave finding (which is too easy in the first place) I wouldn't ever use it for mining. More like seeing through walls for pvp, which is what I've used it for. It's a good potion.
I use hacks like this and I know what I'm talking about.
Having X-Ray vision is considered an unfair advantage, no matter how limited it may be. Likewise, if a potion were to be implemented, either 1 of 2 things would happen.
1, servers running obfuscators would make the potion useless, as these obfuscators scramble the data regaurding ore location.
2, potions would be allowed to ignore the above, causing future mods to just exploit this and bypass obfuscators.

I do not support this idea.
That is actually very true, and I guess impossible to bypass this crossroad. It's probably the only reason the potion shouldn't be gotten IMO.

Everyone is thinking about ores and stuff but what if this potion worked only with mobs? The mobs would be highlighted across the walls allowing you to see them. This would make a "counter-invisibility" potion allowing you to see players hiding behind walls or using invisibility potions.
I think it would be more considerable, since a "X-ray" potion would just be too Over Powered.
Actually, this would only show ores and blocks exposed to air. To see all ores it would require some tweaks to the rendering of blocks, so it only renders ores and then disables backface culling (or whatever it's called) for the sides/top/bottom of the ores, showing the ores. So no, this will only let you find caves. But I think that an ender pearl, if used in a potion, allows the player to teleport to a random point in a 20-block radius of their current position. It's not overpowered, because you can only teleport 20 blocks and it's random, but isn't useless because you can use it to escape a hostile mob crowd.
eh?

This would be a much better idea. It'd provide the same combat advantage without opening a loophole for X-Ray hacks and/or ridiculously easy ore gathering.
It's interesting, but could easily be abused. Perhaps shorten the time, to around 20 seconds per potion, and the extended version being 40. Also, the block radius needs to be like 5 blocks.
At the same time, in-game x-ray would be very game breaking, even if you decrease the time to a single second.

Call it transparency potion or something?
