Raw beef/chicken/porkchops, rotten flesh and carrots (yes, carrots) could be rendered in 3D in an horizontal position (like in real life. Steak doesn't stand up on its own in real life, neither do carrots). Melon slices would be still in 2D, but it would be rotated by 45 degrees. The rest would be normally rendered in 2D like any other items on the ground.
Do you think it would be necessary to put this idea to the top page? I'm just wondering...
Perhaps another thing you could add is after you eat your food off the plate, you must wash it the same way you wash leather aromor to return it to its original state (By right clicking a filled cauldron with the dyed armor). Although this will mean extra work... just a thought
What do you think of it? Is it good?
Clicking it leads to the top page!
Edit:
I know there's already a banner, but this one gives the choice to people who wants a banner.
This is also the very first banner I made in my entire life.
Plates alone can be stacked, but with food on it, no.
Thanks to all who support this idea!
Thanks to cerealkiller for another banner! Ima gonna add it to the top! So strap on your boots, slap on that saddle! Because I'm going on a horse ride! Oops! I just hit a bump!

This idea rocks! I actually had the EXACT same idea in the beta, but never got around to post it, this is a great idea for a new series of decorative blocks in all the meanings of it! Even though eating with a plate is a good thing on it's own, perhaps add 1 food unit to the dish once placed to make it worthwhile adding material to it? One second thought that I had when thinking about this was a bit more spaced out, but what if you could craft actual dishes by combining several food items over a plate in the crafting grid kinda like when crafting mushroom stew?
I completely support your idea and I look forward to see the results of this thread!

Obviously sarcastic.

:-( ): err well the plate on bottom and the food on top of course!
Hope i helped! and yes i hope they add this to the game!
Plates made of glass? I prefer the original recipe... the clay one. Sorry to disapoint you.
I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads I'm always happy to see new posters.
I never thought about that!
Cerealkiller, you're gonna be dissiapointed. Someone chose meh, no. On the survey. Just one. Hopefully no big deal!
There's still hope!!
