Think of the things the community have made, not just mojang and valve. Is it really fair to the technic launcher team to move all the modpacks from the technic platform to the steam workshop? not just that, but steam games tend to have their asssets extremely encripted. Minecraft, on the other hand, has a nice collections of .pngs and .oggs, right there for you to make a resource pack and load ingame using the integrated resource pack thingy. Minecraft was made with the community in mind. Take into consideration the technic launcher, bukkit server, forge modloader, MCedit, and how steam and the steam workshop would cripple all of those, as well as every single map/mod/texture pack website ever.
Minecraft is intended to remain as an "indie" game for as long as possible, as stated by Notch himself. Please do research on that fact before making this suggestion. Personally though, I would like Minecraft on Steam, just for the integration of the interface.
Necrotastic, but press the little "add a game" button and select Minecraft. Bingo. Now whenever you launch Minecraft via Steam, you can use the overlay.

So, I can write anything in my sig and it will show up under my posts? <--- click this egg to find out the shocking truth about your life nobody has ever revealed
Simply stated, NO. Minecraft is not a game that should be out on a market with games like terraria or castle story. Minecraft is its own genre and it needs to stay that way.
Castle story? That has nothing to do with Sandbox Games.
I find steam more annoying than helpful. It slows my computer waaaaay down, making it quite a nuisance.
Plenty of people have already stated that the encryption of all the files will corrupt websites based off of custom made packs. Since a major part of the community exists for this purpose, I could see minecraft loosing some popularity with the loss. Also, since steams server more of a marketing purpose than of a function purpose, it really has no use since minecraft has sold over 15 million copies.
I saw a previous post asking that if xbox and play station have their own game marketing systems such as steam, why not put minecraft on steam? The answer is obvious. The people who designed the xbox and ps were smart in that they made it so that the only way to get games was to go through their marketing systems, there is literally no other way to get games other than to buy a disc. As for computers, they can independently get downloads from anywhere, steam is not required (hence why you were all able to get it in the first place).
addressing those who argue for gift cards, if you go to the official minecraft website you will see that you can buy a gift code which you can give to someone and they can redeem it for the game.
I currently see little use for adding minecraft to steam, and I still support everyone who thinks that it would be a very bad idea.
Hello fellow Minecraft Forumers. My name is SwagBossOpera, and I present to you, a new idea that would let more Gamers play Minecraft. Mojang can put Minecraft on steam, which will also boost sales, and income.
Minecraft is already the third most sold game of all time with over 50M copies sold. Only Tetris (150M) and Wii Sports (80M) are ahead of it. Also Valve takes a 30% cut off all sales on Steam. As proven by CD Projekt RED, games that don't have DRM tend to sell better than their DRM counterparts.
Well, many Gamers do not have a credit card. Some people use their parents. But for online sales, many parents are against giving their credit card information on a website. Well Mojang, here's where you come in.
How is this different? Many parents do not know what Steam is which will put the child in the same position. On top of that you can go to GameStop and purchase Minecraft gift codes.
Steam is an online store, where you can purchase PC games, and PC game DLC. There are MANY Steam users, So if you were to put Minecraft on steam many more people would be aware of the game, and buy it.
I'm fairly certain everyone who plays PC games and uses Steam knows what Minecraft is. Also there are around 40M active Steam users, and there have been 50M copies of Minecraft sold, betcha a lot of those Steam users already have Minecraft.
So as I was saying, many people don't like to put their Credit Card information online. That's why Steam would be a good store to put it on. You can buy Gift-Cards for steam, which is basicly the money you use to buy the games. You can either buy money online, or at a store. This would increase your income by a LOT, and you would have many more players.
Like I said earlier, you can also buy Minecraft gift codes at GameStop. Also Mojang already has more money than they know what to do with.
TL;DR: Put minecraft on steam so more people will buy it.
No, I don't want Minecraft locked onto Steam's DRM.
There are already Minecraft gift cards available, no credit card required.
Also like abpop said, there are gift cards too. I dont think income is really an issues and I think its fine the way it is.And I also think it is bad enough its now out for console and such.
Honestly, I really want it to be on Steam, no matter what you all say. Minecraft is likely going to be non-indie in the future, and Mojang might as well boost sales by adding Minecraft to Steam sometime in the future.

It's been said a bunch of times that it will never be on Steam, and there's even a splash text saying that.

If you really want minecraft on steam for some reason, you can add it by hitting the +add a game button on the bottom left, choose non-steam app and find minecraft. (heck you can rename it on steam if you want to)

Why would they go non-independent? They've done just fine self-publishing for years.
So 2 Words: "No Support"

Constantly evolving, reaching further heights.
