I LOVE this idea I'm not kidding I wish I could grab it and kiss it all over. Is that weird? I support. With this I would have another way to help my big nosed friends.
I love this idea and support it. I think quests should be only given by a certain type of villager (maybe using the green vilager, wich is unused). Also, what do you guys think about quests that get replaced by another quest when it is done?
Heya all, I haven't been playing Minecraft lately, ergo I have not checked this thread in quite sime time. It's nice to see that the last posts on this thread weren't very long ago. I'm glad to see new supporters, thank you everyone who has supported me up to this point and I hope to see something similar to this idea be released in the near future.
You know, because quests are exclusive to RPGs, it's not like most other open world sandboxes have some form of quest system, in fact, it's not like Minecraft doesn't already have a very simplistic quest system (NPC trades). Quests aren't an RPG exclusive thing, they're found in almost every genre, including sandboxes.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
This is the greatest idea I have seen in the Minecraft Forums in a while. I hope Notch or Jeb reads this. Someone please pin this. P.S Great image examples!

I would love some quests. Also you should be able to give villager some easy quests like gathering crops or fighting skeletons, not like mining diamonds or such.
So you can control your daily upkeep
And, any villager can hold out a quest, or it will be the Questmaster for that?
Sorry if someone said something like this before, but i don't think quests should be that random, i think accepting certain quests should make a change in a certain area ( like for example, accepting a quest that involves you defending a village from a zombie raid at a certain time of the day makes a group of zombies appear nearby, close enough to attack the village ) and, special quests like killing named mobs with improved stats and armour, or quest-only bosses or mini-bosses, this is a really great idea and the way it's implemented into the game really makes it fit properly, this would open lots and lots of new possibilities into the game, going to a place to retrieve something, and things like that, also, what about making the villages have a random name? ( a sign generated at the entrance and exit of a village saying something like Welcome to [ insert village name here ] and such )
And, because the minecraft world is almost virtually infinite, a quest's objective should be reached with the help of an red arrow pointing towards to it.
i don't have a tweeter account, Dinnerbone does respond to comments and suggestions when tweeted to him ( not everytime obviously ) so, if a big number of people were to tweet this to him, and if he likes the idea, i'm sure he'll listen.
no support, the descriptions such as "get my wolves back" are completely unfitting
Please take note that "get my wolves back" was merely used only as an example and not something I am or was anticipating at the time to be implemented and used as an actual quest outline.
Don't let fictional examples change your mind, as your whole argument was based off of the one example that I provided and not the general idea (quests in Minecraft.)
This would be awesome! Perhaps the quest giving villager could be a Village Chief/Elder (With a role similar to the white and red robed villager from Take Back the Night), perhaps the green robed generic villager? Also, it would be cool if quests could give you unique items, maybe an ancient sword that once belonged to a hero of the village, or a blacksmith's apron to wear, or a miner's helmet.
A new villager type, dedicated to giving quests instead of trading, would be nice.
