--A new ore that makes pretty blocks and weapons better then iron, but releases up to 10 gas blocks on one ore block.
--Moldy pork. (When leaving pork in a chest or inventory for more then 7 days, it becomes moldy. The chest or person who is holding the pork emits gas for 1 minute. To get rid of this, burn the pork in a fire, not a smelter).
--Green stone. Becomes cobblestone when mined, like normal stone.
Gas works like water, except UPSIDEDOWN. It also has an oxygen bar like water, but THIS bar works out twice as fast.
Yes or no?

You can hold your breathe in air just as long under water so same speed, also after it reaches up so high it should disappear due to natural dispersal. Another form you should be able to find this in randomly generated holes in the ground and it waits until someone mines beside it or above it(as if you mine from below it will stay put).

Technically you'd be able to hold your breath longer in air (less pressure). I think it'd be cool if you didn't know you were breathing poison fumes until you started losing health. You'd have to take a canary with you to be safe.
When gas hits the top of the map, it is destroyed.
It explodes on contact with FIRE. Not torchs, but fire, TNT, or creepers, even if they aren't going to explode. It also explodes on contact with lanturns.
Because of that, you can have creepers go ahead into a mine to destroy any gas.
Exploding gas has the power of TNT.
Gas will stay in those empty spaces you find when mining near caves or ore that's more then 40 blocks below sea level.
Gas will spew from lava. So stick lava under an enemy's house and light a fire. Then laugh at the chat log.
"ZOMG MY HOUSE EXPLODED WHILE I WAS CRAFTING?!?!?!!!"
"It just was a creeper, it was night, you know."
"WAIT A MINUTE, THERE'S A HOLE LEADING DOWN UNDER MY HOUSE!!!"
"QUICK! JUMP IN IT! THERE MIGHT BE A SPY DOWN THERE!!"
*Two people fall down into lava generating gas*
"OW IT BUUUUURRRNNNSSSS"
The other teams laugh at the idiots who did that, while the one who made the secret bomb snipes the people dieing in the lava.
"Alright guys, we killed them! Pop out the beer and pork, then celebrate!"
Oh, here's a way to stop gas...
Along your mine, put extra rooms in the roof that are inaccessable. The size should be around 5x5x5. 3 blocks from the floor.
When they are full, light them. Exploding the stone, knocking down rock and ore, along with getting rid of gas!
Not recommended near stairs or under houses you own.

Um... Lanterns should just be an aesthetic improvement to torches that you can hang from ceilings. Also, torches are a stick of burning pitch, why wouldn't they make an explosive material explode, if the closed flame of a lantern could?

This may be a fad, but I love dragons, so why the heck not?
I preferred it before the additions. It works better as just being poison. If it's explosive allot of accidental deaths will occur. Think, your mining a tunnel through the rock, it's getting a little dark so you place a torch next to your in order to light up the place. You mine through another block and gas spews out. Boom. Your dead. This would just be worse than the annoying creepers spawning in your base and trying to hug you while your crafting.
Yeah, even though I suggested the explosions, you're right. I like the idea of thinking to make ventilation. Would feel more like building a mine than digging a hole.

I thought he was adding smoke? It's pretty much the same thing, it suffocates you, you can't build fires in underground enclosures, and you need to ventilate mines.
This reminds me of Dwarf Fortress miasma, but I don't support there being noxious gas. It would be a general pain, and having it spawn from a valuable material basically entails establishing an escape prior to, or planning to run like heck after digging it out. Neither would be advisable in most cave.
honestly, having poison/explosive gas would be AWESOME if some form of gas mask/rebreather device was added alongside it. also, the gas should obstruct the view of the player. I live in the deep dark quite a bit, and cant shake the image of a sword wielding, armor coated dude, an intimidating mask covering his face, coming out of the gas cloud that you just mined into on accident (the person in the armor bein me :3). So, think about it.

I seriously think if you Have a GAS, it would be: EXPLOSIVE.

Everybody working on the mine, suddenly someone hits a gas pocket, madness to get to the surface.
"Oh, it's getting dark, I'll just stick this torch he- FWOOOSH- BOOM!"
All the other players:
"WTF, THE GROUND EXPLODED UNDER ME!"
"Ah, may wall!"
"Holy cow, look at the size of that explosion!"
"I got screenshots!"
