So basing my idea off the fact that you can saddle a pig, what if as a means of transportation for both you and your hard earned goods were able to be transported via a wagon that would be pulled by a pig or a cow.
The main advantage of this would be having the ability to travel large distances at a faster rate while having the ability to transport goods and players allowing for a better system for advanced exploration, item transportation, and anything else this animal drawn wagon would allow for all while not having to worry about your food bar.
The Wagon would have 2 variables in size, the first size would be a 1 pig/cow drawn wagon, able to hold 3 people, 1 driver, 2 passengers, OR 1 driver, and any combination of chests, a furnace, and a craft table:
alignment of the wagon would look like this, pig being the animal powering the wagon, feather being the "reigns", notch being the player driving the wagon, the craft table and furnace would be the variable cubes, any combo of a chest with a craft table/ furnace, double chest, or craft table and furnace, or have 2 players as passengers.
the other variable cart would be able to hold 4 blocks of storage while being able to have any combination of what would be placed in them while having a "shotgun" passenger seat allowing for a player to ride up front with the driver able to use a bow to help defend the cart as it travels through the world, its alignment would be:
pigs representing the animals powering the cart, feather as the "reigns", notch as the driver, Zombie as the person able to ride shotgun, the crafting tables and furnaces the blocks that could be placed in the back for transportation in any alignment with chests or have players in back for transportation.
speed of the cart would be variable and based on cargo, with no cargo at any sized cart, able to move at a high speed on par with sprinting or in between walking and sprinting, would be activated with the same sprint method as normal walking, with half cargo of any sized cart the full speed would be faster then normal walking pace but slower then fastest, at full cargo the full speed wont be able to be activated and only normal walking speed would be the fastest.
obviously speed variables would come into question, probably the easiest thing to do would equivocate them with sprint speed and walking speed.
to make cart drawn transportation not a method of transportation that would fully dominate standard transportation, there needs to be limitations.
the animals that draw the cart would need to be fed and maintained to make them able to continuously pull the wagon, basically a food bar for them that would degrade slower then a normal food bar.
The cart would have limitations in moving up elevations, im thinking something on par with limiting them to only being able to move up 1 block elevations at a time so long as there is plenty of flat ground on that elevation, it couldn't have a constant elevation (a hill or mountain basically).
anyway there you have it, feedback gladly appreciated.
This is a good idea.It could be used as a troop transport on PVP server
Yup! My main focus to this idea was to keep both a single player and multiplayer functionality in mind while also having a wide diversity to all the non vanilla game mechanics such as complex mmo pvp or info-structure based economies.
although the only thing i could see be an issue is if the wheels on the cart would be square or not lol.
That seems like an interesting idea, maybe better wheels and reins so you can go faster etc.
How about it's durability? An Iron cart is stronger than wood, but slower and costs more.
A Diamond Cart? That's when you need to show them bitches up. :PBut Seriously. This would be pretty rad. Be great for exploring, and would have a nice wilderness/middle ages feel to it

With pigs being used as minecraft's steed, a cow would be a mighty oxen. Cows are quite a bit bigger, so the idea of them pulling something like a wagon with a player inside is not unrealistic in any way. Perhaps the cart could also fit a chest to make it more useful and create a difference between riding pigs and using a cow wagon. The overall speed would definitely be lower to make sure both animal vehicles are equally balance in terms of usefulness.
Edit: In terms of keeping the advantages of normal transportation, no animal based transportation will adapt to changes so quickly; aka, you aren't going to sprint-jump over a ravine in a cow drawn cart. As another advantage towards normal movement, the cows should be steered by a constantly depleting wheat on a fishing rod, similarly to pigs.

Edit: Would it be "tiered" where you could upgrade certain components with iron, gold, diamond, etc.?
