You just finished fighting a creeper, but your diamond armor is low on durability after all of those creeper combat. What if we can make worn-out sprite versions of the armor, the tools, and the weapons, these will show if the weapon, tool, or the part of the armor is worn out?
Like this:
This will add more variation to Minecraft.
Also, when the armor, weapons, and tools are low on durability:
Wood: Would become duller and splintered.
Stone: Would become chipped.
Iron: Would become dull and rusty.
Diamond: Would become cracked and clouded.
Leather: Would become burnt and torn away.

The only way to do this efficiently is copy the block mining effect, and overlay it on the item. Otherwise doubling (or tripling) the texture resources needed to represent different states would cause problems with HD texture packs having ginormous memory requirements.

It's not plausible to do that, besides, only tools lose durability, and that is definitely not the majority of item sprites. It would be far better looking and still completely acceptable to make a separate image or two for each tool.

Although I wouldn't worry... Jeb_ wants to add 2000+ potions to MC, if you don't believe me check the wiki.

I thought we were talking armor texture, but looks like I misread it.

It fits with the game style. They are minecraft-styled. I edited it.

We are talking about "Weapons and armors get worn out sprites if they are on low durability", not "Potions"

It wasn't suggested before.
Yes, it has been.
