Idea: You can't pick up skeleton's arrows, and they only get so many arrows and drop a portion of the rest of them when they die, so beating them fast means more arrows. They could have like 20 arrows, so if they only shoot 10 before you kill them, they drop 5 or so. If you can't kill them until they shoot 16 arrows, you only get 2. If you can kill it before it gets its fifth shot out, you get 8 arrows. The exact number can vary, but the idea is that you can get more arrows the faster you kill skeletons. Shooting a skeleton with an arrow could make it lose one or two of its arrows, so sniping skeletons and taking vast amounts of arrows from each quick kill isn't possible.
the problem is there is no slot for them.
you would carry a shield out, or a sword.
unless you could put a sword + sheild in your "mini craft" area and you get a sword&sheild item that you can equip at once.
but I guess just have'n a shield slot makes sense because, you do everything one handed.
(I bet the minecraft dude's guns on his right arm are massive)

My idea isn't a shield slot, but a left hand slot. Most items are one handed, save the bow and some ones to be added, so a left hand slot would allow for two items to be wielded. Most blocks would be two handed, aside from torches. Right click triggers the left hand item, or alternate attack if you have only one item wielded / are wielding a two handed item. Left click is right hand, usually to destroy or attack. You could double wield, have a shield, or even carry a torch at night in your left hand.
Allow you to pick up skeleton arrows (maybe they do reduced damage?) or craft wooden arrows so as to actually be able to fight with them at range.
or
Add some kind of shield that goes along with the sword. Right clicking would raise the shield and would protect you from frontal attacks, damaging the sword/shield combination like you'd killed an enemy. I WOULD NOT recommend this working on melee attacks.
or
Assign a minimum range to the skeletons arrows so that they can't shoot once you get very close, making them switch to melee where you can fight them normally.
Thoughts? Opinions? Trolls?
This. Best topic ever. I personally like the wooden arrows idea, or maybe just stone arrows? I dunno, like you said, iron is too rare to be used for a eventually infinite amount of ammo you'll need. Granted, wooden/stone arrows will be rigged because you could easily make hundreds and just spam them... I think the iron problem will go away once infdev merges with indev anyways, so I think arrows will be more plentiful then :smile.gif:

Rule number 1 of Minecraft: Never mine the ground under your feet. Ever.
When skeles tie they should drop 2 to 4 bone arrows each that do MOAR damage when fired than normal ones but are NOT able to be picked back up if you miss.
Also...
Skeleys should drop bones that can be crafted into bone weapons witch aren't durable but highly damaging.
ya it an epic scenario that could happen. its mostly unrelated but since i spent the time typing it il post it anyway.
So a guy walks into a village and has 3 bone swords an his back. He gets to the center of town and gets a few looks
because he is very well armed with his 3 awesome swords. He then pulls one out and people are like wtf. So he goes on a random killing spree because hes an ass hole. But the villagers arent just going to sit there and go "oh ****".
they pull out the best thing they have for a weapon and get ready to fight. So its this one guy vs like a village full
of people so its like a lot of guys. But he dosent care he has the best equipment you can get. So after like a day
of constant fighting most of the villagers are dead or have fled long ago. He finishes off the last fighting villager and he looks up at the rising sun. Then down at the fallen villagers around him and see his 3 now broken swords and thinks too himself wow im an ass hole but i cant say it wasent a fun time. Then he loots the vilage and then puts it to the torch. END
I like how the skeletons in the free survival mode explode into a plume of arrows when they die. If you're too close to them, it hurts. I also wish creepers would explode on death still, because raining arrows down on them in indev is a lot smarter than doing it in survival. Skeletons in regular survival have TERRIBLE aim, though, and it's pretty easy to just run up to them with a sword.

This may be a fad, but I love dragons, so why the heck not?
Shields sound cool as just another piece of armor you can wear. I don't think there should be a guarding stance, but maybe shields could reduce knockback.
Having wooden arrows would completely solve the skeleton issue, since trees are an infinite resource. I doubt there won't be wooden arrows in the final version, as medieval archers used wood extensively.
Still, Set them on fire
No, I am not a :geek:

+1 to this idea.

One sword is only tough enough to kill one person and is lesser than iron.
However!
It makes a good enough pick to get some stone for a stone pick.
