If you have ran out of supply of fuel for the use of a furnace to get cactus green...or you can't find any deserts...
I wonder if the cactus green can be craftable out of Lapis Lazuli and Dandelion Yellow...
Utterly useless. Think about it; where do we find blue dye? Underground in caves. What is also underground, in caves, and significantly more abundant? Coal. Between harvesting wood or harvesting coal, both are far easier and guaranteed then mining semi-rare lapis lazuli, it's one of the few non-renewable dyes (in that you can't grow it or obtain it from mobs, you have to go to new generated areas and mine like crazy). Cactus can be grown very easily in vast quantities, yellow dye requires exploration or bonemeal with a random chance to obtain. Of all the dyes, green is probably the most easy to mass produce as it's base item automatically regrows and can be found in a specific biome. If there were a dye that was out of balance to obtain, it would be blue.

I object. I have found a seed with absolutely NO deserts and I was STRUGGLING for a cactus. None were to be found. I'm also a deep miner and I find lapis a bit. I was using the seed for survival because I was gonna make a home with a green carpet. I didn't want any other color so I was struggling for that one cactus. This idea is a great one for me.

I don't doubt your story, but would you concede that your situation was rare and not typical of most situations you would find in Minecraft?
I have 7 seeds that I have never found a desert in. You call that RARE?
According to the Minepedia Article, there are a possibility of 4 billion or 18 quintillion (I honestly don't quite understand which is which) possible seeds. 7 to 4 billion I say qualifies a rare occurrence. I also object to the concept that while elusive, a seed could be generated that was completely void of deserts, even within 5,000 meters of spawn.

In almost every seed I have traveled over 10,000 blocks away from spawn, no luck in finding a desert. I even try thousands of other seeds and still no desert. I've only seen a desert about 4 times. So I approve of craftable green dye.

Support, despite the peer pressure. Green is a very natural color, and finding it shouldn't involve coming near a desert.
While it is ironic, the suggested alternative to getting green dye is harder and more resource-consuming than the normal way. If there is an alternate way, fine, but i'd rather the difficulty for the alternate to be as hard as running up to a cactus in a biome no rarer than the others and punching it.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Useless, for the reasons the others have stated. Also, Jeb stated he wanted to give us reasons to go to specific biomes, and cactus greeen is one cuz you have to go to a desert to get it. This suggestiion would make it useless to go into a desert. It's just against what jeb aims to do.

Absolutely correct. Adding redundant recipes that just make obtaining a specific item easier when it's honestly not that hard to obtain to begin with is a direct conflict with the game direction Jeb has explicitly stated in an interview.
How about it makes lime dye? It's like green but lighter, which might make more sense. Would shake some of the non-support from your thread. It seems like a sensible suggestion, +1 for you.

Hmm...I already have a recipe for the Lime Dye...it uses cactus green and bonemeal...
But there is a small chance of giving you lime dye instead of cactus green...if you craft the cactus green.
I wonder if the cactus green can be craftable out of Lapis Lazuli and Dandelion Yellow...
The crafting recipe would be like this:
Still, the recipe is shapeless.

I support it as well, but cacti are green and natural :P.
