My idea? Mummies = reskinned zombies that can SOMETIMES launch fireballs at you/ set you on fire if they hit you. Keyword being the bolded all caps word. It'd only be like 5-10% or so of the time. Mummies would have spawners in pyramids, because I feel traps aren't enough. They'd also be the only mob capable of spawning in pyramids (aside from maybe skeletons and spiders/ scorpions), if that is at all possible.
Mummies would also have an uncommon to rare chance of spawning in desert biomes in general, but you should encounter them in pyramids 8 or 9 times out of 10. I wouldn't want to see several of them in a desert at night at a time. They need to be something far more likely to be encountered in pyramids than just any old desert.
Scorpions would be spider reskins with tails than can sometimes poison you via their stinger, much like Mo Creatures scorpions, except they look more like spiders/ the scorpions in Hack/ Mine. Then again, I'd be okay with their Mo Creature look to. Unlike Mo Creatures or Hack/ Mine scorpions, these scorpions can also occassionally grab you with their claws. One or two sword strikes or hits in general should do the trick, but if they hold on to you for too long, you'll probably get stung and therefore poisoned.
I honestly dunno about the drops, nor care. I suggested the stinger or collectable venom for scorpions before, but meh. I only threw them in there for another possible mostly.. pyramid-only mob.
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
Mummies should have glowing eyes, and a slight power and life update over zombies. When hit it will let out a black gas, get too close to it when it releases the black gas and you get poisoned. If you imagine several of them coming at you the poison will be a serious problem.
I support this. Not too overpowered and crazy, but still unique and a challenge fit for the pyramids. This fits in well with Minecraft, says I.

So I was just about to post my own mummy topic and look what we have here, a brilliant suggestion!
I think we should have mummies spawn in the desert, and only the desert, with spawners occasionally found in pyramids. I like the suggestion above, but it could get over powered since they would do more damage than a zombie along with having a nasty poison effect.
But I like the poison effect, so here's my idea.
Make mummies more hardy than zombies, but less do slightly less attack damage.
At 25% health (2.5 hearts or less), it commits suicide (within 2 seconds) and releases a poison cloud dealing damage over time. The mummies will shake violently like creepers or endermen before they go poof, allowing you a chance to either strike or run away.
The suicidal mummy poison, or mummy taint, will damage mobs around it, so long as they are not undead (ie, other mummies, zombies, skeletons), or utility mobs (iron golems). The gas is released at a power of 2 (a creepers explosion is a power of 3, so you have an idea of the radius of the gas).
Here's the break down
Health Points: 20 (same as a zombie)
Armor: 3 (slightly higher than a zombie)
Attack Strength
Easy 2 (1 heart)
Normal 3 (1.5 hearts)
Hard 4 (2 hearts)
Mummy Taint
2.5 seconds per hit
2 (one heart) damage per hit for first 5 seconds
1 (half heart) damage per hit for remainder
Mummy Taint
No Mummy Taint on Easy
Normal: 7.5 Seconds (2.5 hearts)
Hard: 15 Seconds (4 hearts)
Mummy taint will hit any player in the radius if the mummy explodes.
Spawning
Light level of 7 much like zombies, and will burn in daylight.
I agree
They already do, mooshrooms can only spawn in mushroom biomes.
