Everyone knows that Blaze and Ghasts can shoot "fire charges," right? However, you can only light a block on fire once with a fire charge. If you put them in a dispenser, they sort of act like the real projectile, but can only travel in the four cardinal directions in Minecraft. Why would anyone make one-use fire charges instead of using the re-usable, cheaper flint & steel? What I want is the ability to right click a fire charge, and shoot it out of my hand. Whether it would blow up like the Ghast one, or ignite like the Blaze one, doesn't matter. It should be fireable, just like enderpearls, except they should not be affected by gravity. Enderpearls are affected by gravity, so they fall if you throw them in the air. Fire charges should not. Fire charges should travel in a straight like, right where you are pointing. I was expecting them to act like this when they first came out, and was disappointed when they only had the ability to set a block on fire. I believe this would be a much more useful, practical, and beneficial use for them.

That does sound like a neat idea, but I think you should have to craft some sort of weapon to launch said firecharges first. Maybe some kind of stylized pistol.

If you can get all the materials to make fire charges, a Blaze Bow could be used to fire them. It would use the bow crafting recipe, but with Blaze Rods instead of sticks. Now that I think about it, though, it would be pretty weird launching a ball from a bow. Maybe it could be some sort of crossbow or slingshot instead?

"Victory is like a watermelon. It's hard to spell and it tastes good."
ok people, some of you mentioned putting it into some kind of weapon right? well are you familiar with the workings of muskets? you load the powder, then the shot, (an Iron ball), then you use this rod thing to push the ball down to the bottom where the trigger moves flit to hit steel, make a spark, ignite the powder and launch the bullet.
well we could make fire charges be just like the musket ball and the musket be an entity that is placed like a block and you right click on the musket block with the firecharge in hand to put the fire charge in it, and then right click with a stick in hand to finish reloading it. it would then turn into an item. at this point you are probably standing right next to it and it will therefore hop right into your inventory, you right click to aim sort of like when you right click with a bow. you all know what that looks like, then when you relase the right mouse button it will fire, it wont even need to charge up like a bow.
it would be nicely set up with more damage than a fully charged arrow by a significant ammount and it would make an explosion covering a 3x3x3 block area, the center of which would be the point of impact, and it would destroy that block if a block was what it hit.
it would also be quite logical to give them exactly the same properties as a creeper explosion.
anyway you run it would probasbly be good if it moves like a ghast fireball.
this would make muskets powerful but dificult to reload and certainly powerful!

Honestly, I don't think you should be able to fire fire charges like that, from a gun, or your hand, or whatever. They're basically cannon balls, with dispensers as the cannons.

i support this idea i can finally live up to my dream of being a wizard
also regarding to those who are talking about slingshots id love to be able to shoot rocks made from cobblestone out of them and deal weak damage because it takes a long time to get enough arrows to make the bow worthwhile
That seems a bit overpowered, and guns (someone suggested a pistol) just don't fit Minecraft. I think some sort of blaze bow should be made, and the fire charges would serve as its arrows. It could be crafted like a regular bow,
=
= String
= Stick
= Bow
= Empty
And its arrows are normal arrows
But instead it would be like this
= String
= Blaze Rods
= Blaze Bow
= Empty
And its arrows would be the fire charges
Of course, fire charges aren't obtainable in vanilla as of right now.So maybe Magma Cubes could drop them? So we're hitting four birds with one stone right now.
First Bird to Get Brain Damaged = Hand shootable fire charges
Second Bird to Get Brain Damaged = Fire Charges obtainable in vanilla
Third Bird to Get Brain Damaged = Magma Cubes have a drop (I dont believe they have one as of now)
Fourth Bird to Get Brain Damaged = More bows (Which i think they need.)
At the same time, i'm indifferent to the idea. Although this would be hitting multiple points of interest, i think fire charges are meant to be a cannon ball. The cannon being a dispenser. So it doesn't make a difference to me. All i know is that in the future, Magma Cubes need to drop stuff, and there should be at least one more bow.
EDIT: I didn't know you could obtain Fire Charges in vanilla. So thanks Clover, for informing me of that

For starters, you're saying this : doesn't fit in Minecraft? Second, someone already suggested the "fire bow" which is kind of redundant when you can enchant a bow to shoot flaming arrows. And third, yes you can obtain fire charges in vanilla. You make them by combining coal, blaze powder, and gunpowder.

Oh really? I didn't know that. I learned something new
And yeah, i know. But still. i thought i'd voice my opinions. I think a Blaze Bow would work to shoot them from your hands. Considering the fact that its just a fireball, it would probably be hot, so i assume you'd need something to shoot it with? Again, like all of us, just voicing my opinions.
And yeah, that doesn't fit. There are no guns in Minecraft. No computers. Nothing even close to that level. Sure, with redstone you can MAKE things like that, but, it isn't just there.

Umm well if your saying no guns they dont fit minecraft please note that tnt was made around about the same time period as the first precussion cap weapon the Revolver so a flintlock firearm is even earlier than tnt and if you dare bring realism in please note do you see walking exploding bushes irl?
There's a big difference between computers and guns.
No, but they have similar reasons for not being in there.
Guns, like computers, don't fit the theme. We aren't talking tone, nor time period, we're talking theme. You're in a blocky world filled with exploding green things, blocky pigs which you can ride with a saddle, squidward village people, and a magical, current-carrying red dust.
Now, where, pray tell, do you see computers and guns fitting in with this?
Edit: And, don't mention that mod with the programmable computers. There's a reason it's a mod.

Blackpowder firearms wouldn't exactly ruin that Minecraft theme.
Anyways, I don't really support a gun for firecharges, more like a slingshot or something.

I have a better solution to sniping.... hit them back at people.

If you fire a firecharge from a dispenser, the drift is much greater than an arrow, effectively making sniping beyond about 25-30 blocks ineffective.
Some sort of weapon, like a slingshot, should be introduced to shoot firecharges.

Niet you craft firecharged like this
B = blazepowder
C = Coal/Charcoal
G = Gunpowder
crafted just like the code its blaze ontop of coal ontop of gunpowder
If it aint worth fixing dont fix it.
