With pyramids coming, we need mummies. It's only reasonable. So here's how they work.
1. Behavior
Mummies have the same AI as zombies. They also move as fast as zombies, but deal an extra heart of damage. Ocassionally, they will cast a non explosive fire ball. I don't know, they're undead, they're magical, it just came to me. They also make growling noises.
2. Appearance
I might make a skin for the mob if this thread becomes popular enough. But obviously, it looks like a mummy. It has black eyes and mouth. It also has fabric hanging from their bodies. Maybe could act like a limb, bobbing as the mummy moves. The mummy could also have its arms out like a zombie.
Yeah, I screwed up with the image. I'll just put a link here. Anyway, I don't know what happened with the head, but...here's my failed image. The head is supposed to have black eyes with red pupils, and a black frowning mouth, similiar to a creeper's.
Since pyramids are being added in the next update, (I'm not saying mummies should be added this quickly. Don't worry.) obviously they would spawn in a pyramid. There could also be coffin blocks in pyramids, that spawn one mummy each. So mummies would be limited.
4. Drops and other uses
Mummies could drop paper, I guess. That would be one of their drops. Obviously, they can't just drop paper, or that would be redundant. As mummies are limited, and don't freely spawn, they could drop emeralds, as emeralds are pretty rare, but very needed to be able to trade with villagers. (This also gave me the idea of villager-exclusive items, but I'll take care of that some other time.)
Well, there's my suggestion. I appreciate constructive criticism, and feedback!
Definite support. Maybe it could drop bones and paper regularly, but rarely drop a fire charge, lapis lazuli, or an emerald. However, I disagree with the "Mummies only spawn at coffins" idea. I think they should spawn in the desert at the same rate as spider jockeys. Pyramids could have mummy spawners in or below them.

Right, rare drops. And coffins basically work as one-use mummy spawners, but only spawn in pyramids. Though I like your idea of rare spawnings in the desert.

SEE THAT PONY THERE? YEAH, DAS MY OC. SO **** YOU.
Yes, Absolutely yes. This is a GREAT idea. A definite (Why didn't I think of this?) moment. Anyways, Kudos on that. I do believe that you didn't really expand ENOUGH of the Behavior, Because I got a bit of a "Re textured Buffed zombie vibe". Although, The coffin idea is absolutely BRILLIANT, So by every means. You have my full support. The random low chance spawning the in the desert idea is just as good.
I think mummies are already confirmed. Jeb confirmed them when talking about the early heiroglyphic sandstone texture. My guess is that they will replace zombies in deserts.

Perhaps mummies could drop bandages (as a rare drop) that heal half a heart when used? Sort of like 1.2.5 cookies but for health instead. It could also be in the chests of the new pyramids.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Ugh...I know this is probably a bit annoying...but...*sighs* Bump.
It's annoying and against forum rules. Don't bump unless you have something significant to add. Also try to wait like 24 hours between bumps, because you can only post so many times in a row before it gets suspicious.

I don't think mummies should have their own sarcophagus spawners. They should just use the normal ones like all the other mobs, but only have them in pyramids (just as the silverfish spawner is only in strongholds.)
The mob is perfect, and dropping paper and emeralds is genius. But I don't like the spawning conditions.
I think that they should only be able to spawn out of dispensers (that would have to be made spawn in pyramids, attached to pressure plates near the entrance), and possibly have a unique item instead of a spawn egg (so that they can't be used by the player). The item could be "Sleeping mummy", and when crafted it could yield paper, or players could use them in their own traps.
Having them only spawn from dispensers makes sense, as it means they won't randomly spawn where they don't fit.

Thanks for the support ^^
If they were a bit more different then I'd support this but as of now, they're to much alike to zombies, sorry :C
I'll try to think of a bit more to differentiate from zombies, and suggestions would help to! Thanks for the feedback!
YES!

Support for him, and it sounds like a great idea.
You make it sound genius!
or -1 me with your mind. One of them is less frustrating.
