Some people might say: "I actually LIKE the new biomes." Someone else might say "I like the new biomes, but the blending sucks." the next person would say, "Y U NO LIKE PLAINS???" To this the answer would be: they are useless.
First time I made my home on the plains wasn't because it was flat. It was because I had never done it before. that all changed once I took an arrow to the knee. Literally. A whole bunch of mobs spawn on the plains, so really, what do you have? Chests full of seeds that EVERYONE complains about, a whole bunch of mobs spawning around you, and a heapload of sheep that you can get what from? Wool, and string. Yay, more fishing rods?! Fishing rods and bows take a while to go down, and once you've got a bed and a wool floor, you're done. I'm picking on the plains because it's the flattest land but it sucks.
Now let's pick on the extreme hills. "I'm the extreme hills. Look, I'm sooo bumpy. Like my lumps?" Here's what happens: "Okay honey, going out to get grocer- ahhhhhhhhh! *crack* Honey, get the amphetamine..." The very next day: "Finally, some wheat! With this, I can bring animals back! Here piggy piggy piggy... Just come on do- *crack* *squeal* Facking bobshut! He dead!" The next next day: *break* "Oh, honey, going to get some more wood, my pick broke. Lalalala... *opens door* Where are all the trees?! *echo, echo, echo....*"
Now, tiaga. "Me is tiaga. Me's trees are big and dark, and we go one forever. We spawn next to desert because me's like to build sandcastles (?). For some reason, me's at sea level even though me is colder than everywhere else. Me has flowers and grass, even though me's too cold to have them. They's just have's a barrier around them's that snow's cant's get's through's it's. Me's a smart biome, and can build great sandcastles!
Desert. Got water? YUS! 'Nuff said. NVM, let's continue. I AM THE GREAT DESERT. YOU WILL FIND NOTHING OF VALUE HERE EXCEPT STUPID NPC VILLAGES THAT SOMEHOW GROW WHEAT ON MY MIGHTY MIGHTY SAND. I AM PROUD OF MY SAND, VERY PROUD, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT IS FLAT AND LOOKS LIKE A SERADED EDGE OF A BENT STAKE KNIFE. I AM THE ALL POWERFUL DESERT.
Ocean. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming all day long. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming all day long. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, all day long. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming all- OK, screw this, I'm drowning myself, even though I have full diamond! Caution: results will not vary. Even with a boat.
The tundra. I (eye eye eye eye) am the tundra (ah ah ah ah). You (o o o o) will find barely (e e e e) any (e e e e) animals here (ear ear ear) or grass (ras ras ras ras). Or trees (eas eas eas). Blah (ah ah ah ah).
The forest: Hullo! Hullo! Hullo! Hullo! Hullow! Say all the individual trees in the biome to you. Good morning, do you like your mobs sunny side up, or scrambled? Doesn't matter, because for some reason they don't burn through our leaves! All the mobs will be on your face in less than... oh dear you're already dead. Well anyway, I hope you like our new neighborhood on completely flat ground so that we trees can talk to eachother perfectly, and be annoyingly clumped together! Don't try to burn us down, because fire has been nerfed so badly it's useless on anything other than netherrack! Have fun!
Mushroom. We arr teh mushrooom biomee. We ave gient mushrooms taht fur sum rezon yo ant place evan en teh dark anymure unless ur in teh cave and cahnt grow dem tear anyway. Look at arr useless cows. We arr on an izland. Diz biome is usefull alret.
I was agreeing with the terrain features but I was saying that it might not... Nevermind you win

I would prefer 1.7 gen with current biomes and features... You're making it complicated with the whole ''Have 1.8 gen but raise the variety level to pre-1.8'' What's the point?
I would prefer 1.7 gen with current biomes and features... You're making it complicated with the whole ''Have 1.8 gen but raise the variety level to pre-1.8'' What's the point?
No, that doesn't make sense to me what you said. What the thread wants is to keep the "current generator but add height variation" so people don't claim everyone is on a nostlagia trip, and other minecraft players don't go whining about it.
You say that the terrain before 1.8 (This includes 1.7) was better, but you say you don't like it at the start because of floating gravel. So what do you want? A new terrain generator?
You can however, use the search bar in the top right of the page to search the topic for key words. In this case implement pre 1.8 generation would be the search. Unfortunately either you are a smart alec or you didn't understand the full OP either. How many times did it say "we don't want the 1.7 generation back"? Atleast once, and I'd bet on 3. So here you are, thinking, "okay, we don't want the 1.7 generation back. I guess no one likes it. Well people talked about the pre- 1.8 generation, so everyone must want that!" Did you think that after 32 pages of discussion we did not think once about that at all? You can't come in here, and this is how I imagine you would do it in real life: *you snap, then bring your hands together to form a clap. Then, you say "Boom! Guys, I have it! Why not just bring back the pre-1.8 generation back as a seperate world type?" then crouch your knees, and point your index fingers in the group's general direction* Lost of people try not to commit assault. Even the fact that you want another world type for the thing is a bad idea. It's been a type of injustice, the kind of injustice you can commit from a video game. There's no reason to make the terrain suck, and when they bring it back, anyone who wants to can make and "old biomes mod" if they so wish. I'm sorry, but the guys who don't like the accidental blunder to minecraft's terrain were here first. It's gotten to the point of ridiculousness.
Nice way to shoot somebody's idea down even though it was freakin amazing.
So I'm guessing you didn't read the thread all the way through? And as I said - feel free to prove me wrong with pictures, images, whatever it may be and yet you reply with your opinionated post while at the same time failing to present any evidence to prove your cause. why is that?
Seeds are shared: they do provide players with the ability to share a neat map they found with one another but 9 out of 10 times since 1.8 a seed is shared for biomes, structures, or some other pointless reason. It's never for the land structures like it was before 1.8. This isn't a nostalgic thing this is a wanting a new, diverse, and wilder terrain generator with 1.2.5.
Before creating your pointless posts, try reading the original post.
Edit -----
And the reason seeds would be considered pointless is because every map in minecraft today is pretty much the exact same thing. They are repetitive, dull, flat, boring. It's the same nonsense no matter what kind of map you load and therefore: seeds are pointless. millions of different seeds: same map. Seems drastic but: read the original post.
Every seed is different, sometimes it's on an island or mushroom biome, maybe you could try using different seeds?

Da hell do you want then? Candyland? Willy Wonka biome? Fire biome? Bed land? Damn
You say that the terrain before 1.8 (This includes 1.7) was better, but you say you don't like it at the start because of floating gravel. So what do you want? A new terrain generator?
Nice way to shoot somebody's idea down even though it was freakin amazing.

Yes, we want a new generator, but not a completely new one. I don't care about the floating gravel, it adds charm. The only thing I don't like floating is dirt, and when it's the extreme hills color it looks more ugly.
So someone gets and idea, that had already been suggested, not bothering to actually take his time to read that much at all, and you think that that's ok? It's like in the small suggestions thread I often go on. If I see an idea reposted by someone else than the original guy, I tell them, search the freaking topic, then post your idea. If you get results and it's what you would've said, bump. If not, reply to it and make renditions. It's what I do when I come across a thread with too many pages to read. It's what I did here.
Bringing back the old generator would be a bad move. Not only would everyone be like "BUUUT WHY???", a lot of people would be saying, "the new generator was better! There were bigger caves and more flat land to build on AND YOU DON'T LOVE ME!" Through recent updates the minecraft fanbase has been used to getting babied and things made easier, so that's probably why they'd say that. Also, bringing the old generator back would mean that not many new biomes. That feature would have to be reimplemented, which means it wouldn't even be the old generator anyway. The thing is, it had a lot of bugs, but interesting terrain. The new generator has few bugs, but the terrain sucks.
So take the best of both worlds. Keep the bugfix, get back the terrain. Also, if the group who got the old generator back actually succeeded, how many players would start calling us nostalgic? That's not what we are. People will object, and large groups of them. It won't make everyone happy because i doubt this one poster on the minecraft forum has asked a large portion of their community for this change. Shreaders has gotten many supporters and replies alike, and he has 32 pages. That's one post of nonsense. Not only is the idea of bringing back the generator false, but there are already mods for that, so they aren't going to put it in.
We have already defined what we want. We want height variation in biomes. We want smaller and conquerable caves that do not go on forever. We want mountains everywhere, not spammed together, and we want them to be possible in every biome. We don't want an old generator back. We are just using it as an example as to how far down the quality of terrain has come.
That long mockery of every basic existing biome (forgot jungle) was saying that really, those biomes are pointless. Let's count the flat ones. 1 plains (granted, but still, it adds up), 2 desert, 3 tundra, 4 ocean (they're not flat on the bottom, but you can't readily build or walk on the bottom, so...), 5 tiaga (it's different, but not very high), 6 forest (same for tiaga). The mushroom biome is just useless, though I'll say again, I'm sure the dev team will make some practical use for it. The only biome with height is extreme hills, and is bald, (has no trees really at all) and spammed together so it's hard to trek. Then around it you have the flat terrain.
What do I want? How about some interesting biomes that make sense, and aren't dull and flat, annoying or pointless? That should not be too much to ask! It's minecraft, and it has been done before. It was a lot buggier, but atleast it was fun! There's no good reason it's not there now except accidents. Yes, the 1.8.1 release generator was an accident when they were working on it. They went from there, because far lands were removed. Just because far lands were removed. That's why they took away our beauty, because there were no more farlands.

How exactly was 1.7 gen buggy? If 1.7 was buggy, so is this. If you're talking about far lands or going 200000 blocks out, who would care about walking such distance? (Excluding kurtjmac, he walked legitimately and with a purpose at least 350000 blocks out.)

12550820 blocks.
some_alpha_version-1.7 generators had bug with chunk borders on borders of sand and gravel beaches.
Alpha 1.2.0-Beta 1.4 also had such thing with deserts.
And it still exists on stone-only areas.

The far lands were at 12550820 blocks, but the block offset/whatever is not THAT far away from the center. It was the thing I was talking about
Man... the old seeds were awesome. I would drop my jaw over the landscapes, now some of the people are dropping their jaws over natural structure find. - -;
Well that was Notch doing all those crap. Now Jeb taken over to keep minecraft going.

The point is, then was buggy, now was buggy. Now we don't have all those "floating islands" everyone talks about and complained about, but that's why we don't want the old generator back, because others will **** and moan if we did. It's just as buggy or more buggy as it was before, so it doesn't matter. In fact, if you would call it a bug, I see lots of structure generation messed up by it crossing into another structure, or simply looking at NPC villagers trying to get out of their houses. We just want some variation. God, do I need to hire a lawyer and take this to court?

Floating islands were rare, and are even more rare now. But they still exist. I don't get though why everyone complained about them, unless they of course 3 dirt block islands.

Now that I think about it, who gives a **** if those dirt-islands existed?
"OOOH I HAVE AIDS BECAUSE I SAW 3 FLOATING BLOCKS OF DIRT"
Well, you could have just moved to a different spot. Every single piece of terrain was different, so what's the point of complaining about something you can ignore?
Floating islands were rare, and are even more rare now. But they still exist. I don't get though why everyone complained about them, unless they of course 3 dirt block islands.
Yes, because that wasn't just an example, it was the only evidence I had on the matter, obviously. There are absolutely no other bugs that were on the generators, like the parts of terrain where there's random blocks taken out to make it look like a checkerboard, or floating sand connected to desert "mountains", or any other bugs for that matter. Obviously that was what I wanted the post to be focused on, and was the absolute main idea about the floating islands. Obvious sarcasm is obvious.
Even if you weren't trying to oppose, please stick with the main idea, or say "I get what you're saying, but as for the floating island... ect ect ect...." or say "I don't agree with you, but as for the floating islands you mentioned.... ect ect ect...."

My view is that this has been playing out like an episode of The Office for quite a few pages now. Somehow you're now policing the thread Seimiro! "You - move on! You can stay. What did you say? WHAT DID YOU SAY! Don't let me see you hanging around here again or there'll be trouble." (Paraphrased)
In the interest of balance, and to support responding to Shreaders' comments about how representative the number of supporters are, I have started a related (but significantly different) thread:

Your thread is taking the title into a literal sense. If you're trying to make an argument against Shreaders than you need to try again. I made a response on that thread. Please read it.

Ok, you say I'm policing the thread. That's pretty accurate, but the only reason I get upset at anyone is because they don't listen. First time here, I read the whole OP, and searched the thread using the search bar for people who might've posted the same thing. I see it happen in a lot of threads, people just repost already said ideas, and it gets annoying. The fact is that with this thread, people would learn by reading the other posts. Things like "let's get the old generator back, that'll make everyone happy" has already been said, and is not what we want. Also, "you are just being nostalgic". How are we being nostalgic when we don't want the old generator back, we just want some new features that can be exemplified from the old generator? These kinds of things might be understood if people would read related posts. As for other things that people post as original ideas, I just give them reasons on why they shouldn't oppose. Is it really fair that a feature that was great was taken away for so many versions, to be left with this? The old players are disappointed, and the new players are not able to experience this. It just isn't fair, and so I'm sticking to that belief, though I'm going to be trying my best not to get hostile about it from now on.
As for your thread, seeds usefulness isn't the main focus here. It is to get people's attention. If you don't know, the relevance to seeds being boring is that the world generation is basically the same for all seeds. Really, people only share seeds for certain biomes spawned in or structures. Structures, structures, structures. "Oh, look, there's an NPC village on top of a stronghold next to a pyramid in the desert, so that you don't have to explore or challenge yourself at all." Really, you're responding to the wrong thing. If you wanted to fight this thread, you'd name it: The Terrain is Bumpy Enough! And Here's Why: or something along the lines of that.
I was agreeing with the terrain features but I was saying that it might not... Nevermind you win
Keeping in mind I play minecraft everyday and love it, and I still said all that.
No, that doesn't make sense to me what you said. What the thread wants is to keep the "current generator but add height variation" so people don't claim everyone is on a nostlagia trip, and other minecraft players don't go whining about it.

The far lands were at 12550820 blocks, but the block offset/whatever is not THAT far away from the center. It was the thing I was talking about
Well that was Notch doing all those crap. Now Jeb taken over to keep minecraft going.
Jeb bring back the awesome terrains.
TERRAIN SEEDS ARE USEFUL! AND HERE'S WHY:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1287353-terrain-seeds-are-useful-and-heres-why/
It is early days, however I have high hopes for it.
Well, quite.
