I agree! In 1.7 My first world I made,I first off went exploring.I came across these mountains that made a U shape surronded by water. My first thought was "Holy $h1t",then I thought"Pwnage base right here".When the full release came out it was awesome, with my base.My minecraft.jar got corrupted and had to redownload everything. My seed and coords I had it written down cause I gave it to my friends and compared our buildings.I typed in the seed and the coords(thinking it keeps everything in the system).I went there and it was just the plains thats when I got ed off at Mojang and stopped playing Minecraft for a while.
Anyone using MCEdit and examining a few randomly generated worlds purely at start point will realise the world generation is too messy - especially underground - its unusual NOT to find 3 dungeons 8 diamond ore,12 gold and 12 obsidian - in short you can start anywhere dig around a bit and pretty much find all essential ores fairly quick plus dungeons and mineshafts - why even have an infinite generator if you can find a LOT within close ditance to the start point?. As for the surface generation its not too bad as I use 1.2.5 but I understand the world generator changed since that release

1.2.5 has a crappy generator. It's the same as the current one, but X-hills cannot go as high.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
The only problem i see with the current world generator is that it creates way too much Ocean.
If you travel around enough the worlds may tend to look very similar with just different spawn points, but this realism is better than finding blocks floating in midair.
I kind of agree with this topic, because there are so many things Mojang could improve on terrain generation. We got a new hight-limit (256), but Mojang only makes mountain reach the 100.
I am entirely for this due to the fact that the coolest terrain i have ever found is a 20- block floating island in a shape which made it impossible to live on and a giant hole in the ground. Until this is added to minecraft, i will not sleep (in minecraft).
All in all Support
However, I do agree. The world needs changing. I'm sick of the biomes already and the world isn't worth exploring.

Though Its True 1.8 Did F*** With The Terrain Too Much...
Here's my old signature. Maybe I'll make a new one at some point...

We don't support the return of the old generator. It had it's flaws. A new generator can fix the flaws with both generators yet still be awesome.
Better oceans?
