No it won't. That's the whole point. Do diamond swords make stone and iron ones useless? Do iron doors make wooden ones useless? Minecraft with simple firearms will not suddenly stop needing bows. Do you know why? Bows are easy to make. They drop from skeletons, sometimes enchanted. Arrows are easy to get. A musket or the like? You need to have metal, for the weapon and the ammo. You need gunpowder. It would take more resources, and harder to acquire ones. Moreover, they would behave differently. Take the blunderbuss example, even at its simplest. Do you want accuracy and range? Or damage in a short spread? That simple mechanical difference would make one preferable in some situations, and the other in different ones. Different people would end up using one or the other, depending on what they wanted it for. Even just a different reloading mechanic would make it an even choice between musket and bow.
I'd want flintlock pistols, but they have to consume both a bullet AND a gunpowder for each shot. If that's possible, then muskets too. Maybe add a bayonet on to them to give them some melee damage as well, about half a heart more than a stone sword.
If guns were to be added to minecraft they should be balanced in their strengths and weaknesses, with only old guns and no high tech assault rifles and machineguns. Like possibly a flintlock that is less accurate than a bow, has a longer reload, but kills instantly with no projectile drop. Or maybe a musket that reloads REALLY slow but kills in one hit and is just as accurate as a bow with, again, no projectile drop. Of course the guns would last longer than the bow, but the would also be a lot more expesnive and require certain parts to be made before you can make the final product gun such as the stock, firing mechanism and barrel.
I do not like guns in Minecraft. Although, others will say Minecraft is a sandbox game that allows you to do whatever you want, I think Minecraft should stick to swords and bows, not modern guns like shotguns or rifles. In my opinion, if guns were added, Minecraft will be more like the classic shooting game with monsters instead of human targets.
I think crossbows would be better. They are an upgrade to bows and can fire more powerfully and further.
Well, back in alpha and beta, people never wanted a "medival" game. But when the adventure update came out, it kinda became one. This would add a chance to use things like pistols, rifles, (and possibly machine guns), and get out of that zone. Of course, if you think this won't fit the theme, then think of this, "The theme of minecraft is what YOU want it to be" If you wanted no guns, then simply don't craft them. Everyone else could have fun with guns, and you won't. That's FINE. For exapmple, one might not like cobblestone in their buildings, but I do. That's OUR opinion. Also, It wouldn't become like an FPS. Cowboy pistols and civil war rfiles would only add more variety to the game.

Well, apparently we're not allowed to say "No Guns" on this thread, so fine, I support guns. Only if they are this: http://www.minecraft...0#entry20465478
When will Minecraft stop updating? When pigs fly over the frozen plains of hell, twice in a blue moon, while Taylor Swift sings a song called, "Maybe I'm the Problem".
In the past I've always been very 'anti-gun' but I actually really like this ideas. They seem well thought out and relativly balanced. I like the idea of ammo being expensive - this shouldnt be something I can use all the time. I also like how they take ages for a reload.
However, what about on SMP, will there be a flash so I can see who shot me? If this have a long range and I cant who is shooting me, could be awkward for pvp.
Of course there would be a flash, It's a gun.
And, doing an iron swords' worth with fairly CHEAP (1 iron ingot makes 8 bullets also needs gunpowder) is actually UNDERPOWEDED, assuming it takes 3 or so iron.

If a game hs no guns, most of the time when you add guns, i completley ruins it (Mount & Blade, fable)
Guns are not for minecraft, end of story
Oh yes, supply an argument with no facts to back it up, yes. Who are you to say that guns aren't for minecraft?! Guns never ruined Mount & Blade or Fable, they just ruined themselves, guns or no.
Also, why would I feel bad?! Should every person that disagrees with you have to "feel bad" !? We're just posting.

Okay, you may be thinking,
"THOIS isOP and totalllly NOTTT themre!!!!1" (I may have exaggerated)
I think that, it's not OP(overpowered) beacause it requires losts of ammunition, is pretty expensive(FIVE IRON), and is not THAT good.
If you think it doesn't fit the theme, well, MINECRAFT HAS NO THEME. o.O Minecraft is, simply a sandbox game. The theme is what you wanted it to be, so don't think that.
My idea:
They would be crafted like this:
:Flint and Steel:
(Hoe is lever, shroom is redstone)
They would require bullet belts/clips crafted like this:
(flint is bullets, shapeless)
They would do 2 hearts per bullet, and have a 5% chance of a jam. If it jams, it would have to be stuck in the "reloading" animation for 5 seconds while you try to shoot or reload (right click).
See more on firing mechanics and bullets on another post in this thread, most likely on the same page.

Mount and blade: warband-Had no guns and was great
Mount and blade: WfAS-had guns, was the worst in the series
Fable 1-no guns, was great
Fable 2-had guns but they were optional, was ok
Fable 3-focused WAY to much on gunplay, was awful
Simply put, guns have no place in minecraft, it will completley kill the idea of it
Having played all three Fable games, I can definitely speak on this. The guns had very little to do with what made the second and third installments bad. It was the overall dumbing down of the game. Difficulty curves dropped, the game increasingly held your hand throughout, things that were supposed to be "hidden" ended up actuctually being nothing of the kind as the player was lead right to them, eventually losing even became outright impossible. Oh, and Fable 3 actually made guns one of the worst options. If you weren't playing a pure mage in that game, you were wasting time. Tangentally, you might notice that just because magic was completely overpowered in that game, doesn't make it impossible for other games to do it well. A bad game will be bad no matter what elements it includes. A good game can still often take those same elements and make them work.
This is one area where Minecraft shines. While many people complain about the snapshot system, thing what it does for adding new features. If a form of firearm were to be added, it would first appear in a snapshot. Players would have a chance to test it, and report back on how it affected gameplay, giving Mojang a chance to fix any problems that occur to keep the game fun. The danger of guns "ruining" Minecraft is effectively nill. Player feedback is simply too much a part of the development process to allow a firearm to ever be added so unbalanced as you're implying they would be. That leaving aside how careful Mojang always is about the balance on anything they add - just look at the amount of thought that went into the design for the Hopper, and making it simple and balanced, yet able to be used many ways.
Guns will never be added to the game. As notch said in the documentary, he needs to keep his game kidfreindly. Guns will not be added, they are kidunfriendly and way overpowered.

Explain to me what part of Hell is kid-friendly, what part of hacking things to bits with a sword is kid-friendly, what part of dangerous high explosives is kid-friendly, what part of being able to murder innocent townsfolk is kid-friendly, what part of the Slenderman is kid-friendly, and just how shooting things with stabby arrows that continue to protrude from a player's body after they're shot is more kid friendly than pointing a musket at something, hearing a bang, and it flashes, and I might be inclined to think you have a point.
Probably not though, because of this line, "and way overpowered". Please forgive me, but I was not aware that there was some great cosmic law of the universe that stated what the stats on a hypothetical addition to the game must be. Apparently, according to you, Mojang has absolutely no control over what goes into their game. They do not in any way program things themselves, it would seem, but rather tell a magical genie that Notch found as a boy what they want to add, and it just magically appears in the game as whatever it is. That must be what you mean, because the alternative would be that you think that Notch, Jeb, Dinnerbone, and everyone else at Mojang are a bunch of drooling, brain-dead, mouth breathers, completely incapable of balancing their own damn game, despite all evidence to the contrary.
Let me make this perfectly clear, while I still have enough self-control to keep my post halfway civil: The idea of firearms cannot be overpowered. It is only a concept, with no stats or game-mechanics behind it. Yes, if someone suggested a specific thing, working in a specific way, that idea might be unbalanced. However, that does not reflect on other suggestions based on the concept as a whole. Balancing happens only when the idea is implemented, and only then does it have stats. Those stats would then be determined by the development team - the same team responsible for the mechanics of literally everything that already exists in the game. That same team regularly takes ideas similar to ones that are popular, and implements them in a way that is balanced to the other mechanics of the game overall. There is no reason to assume that, should they find a reasonable proposal for firearms to adopt, they would not put the same level of care into making it balanced. For them to not do so would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.
It was possible to fire LOADED weapon, which had to be crafted by adding gunpowder and bullet to UNLOADED weapon.
I know you're just referring to the mod, not actually suggesting it, but I don't think guns should be reloaded through crafting, but instead in a manner similar to M&B.
Guns will never be added to the game. As notch said in the documentary, he needs to keep his game kidfreindly. Guns will not be added, they are kidunfriendly and way overpowered.
Someday Mojang might change bows to insta-kill all players and mobs. Of course, they aren't planning on it, but they have the potential, therefore they are overpowered.
If you going to make a statement like "Too OP" or "It would make X useless", please do yourself a favor and QUALIFY your statement with a reason or assumption; be prepared to defend such statement as well.
We don't want/need a scientific answer, but if you're not going to take the time to qualify your post; then I'm just going to beat you to the punch...
I stand corrected?
Seriously, no offense, but people like you are why lots of people think guns would be OP.
How will this make bows useless? Please expand.

Actually, I see your point. All tiers of armor and tools except wood should be removed, too.

What does the "all ages" argument have to do with anything?
There are already:
Bombs (TNT), which can be launched or made into traps
Axes/Swords
Bows
What you think is that guns would instantly make minecraft "M rated", but actually it would not make it any more or less violent.
Of course there would be a flash, It's a gun.
And, doing an iron swords' worth with fairly CHEAP (1 iron ingot makes 8 bullets also needs gunpowder) is actually UNDERPOWEDED, assuming it takes 3 or so iron.
Yes, I agree. I feel that rifles/muskets and old pistols (machineguns?) should be added.
