I never said, "I agree with hiring villager fighters BECAUSE people are not happy with villager fighters". Please read carefully. Grammar lesson: When there is this thing called a period between two constructed sentences, then that means that the latter sentence does not continue from the former.
The 3rd game mode can be RPG, but I never said it needs to be implemented, I only inferred that maybe a new gamemode is a solution. But I do want fighters to be implemented.
Oh sorry. By the way, I like your idea. Thanks!

Well, green makes me think "Robin Hood". So having a rare Testificate Ranger would be cool. Also, it would work pretty well, I think. If the militia is fairly well armed, but can't take a hit, then you see the golems as front-line defence, with Rangers picking off the mobs that they miss. On the other hand, the Testificates already make swords. Maybe there could be a random chance of them spawning with a bow and arrows, or a sword and helmet.
I don't really like this idea. Yes, yes, smaller villages do not ever get protected. But if there is a village, you'll probably find it because you have to be near it to load. It's sort of like a job to protect the villagers until they make a golem. That being said, it's also the player's job to build more houses for them to help them. Then the player could stay in the village and be safe.

I understand what you're saying, but after a while, patrolling the village every night does get boring. I know because I used to play on a world where I lived in a village, and it was wiped out in one night when I went to sleep.

the idea is good. notch and jeb were thinking of this :
"Old Interview of Notch
Notch once answered some questions about an idea he had, NPC Villages, where he revealed some thoughts about them: [9]
If you treat the Villagers well (giving them items), they'll give you items back.
If you treat the Villagers badly (attacking/killing them), they'll try to do the same to you. (This has been fulfilled with the addition of Iron Golems.)
Raiding chests will anger the owners of the town/chest and they will attack.
Eventually these villages will have more player looking NPC's. Also, trading has been Jeb's main focus on villages. Someday there may be chat dialog and even relationships with the villagers such as a wife or husband." from the minecraft wiki. but iron golems are not the solution. they are not villagers attacking/killing you. warrior villagers is a better idea.bow villagers should spawn in the church towers too. or an entirely new watchtower!
I would like to bribe these villagers for my own personal army. Make it cost like one diamond/gold for it and It works the same way as taming a wolf.
Villager builders can take from nearby chest or take from one central chest to build more houses of their own. They cannot build your house or buildings that you want to build, it is your job to build them. It requires cobblestone, wood, and wood planks. For every 3 Villagers, there is one house. Also villagers builds only on sand and dirt they also build two blocks away from materials that are not sand and blocks, this is to avoid villagers building houses on your house.

So basically a armed testificate in the middle of the world? I like. With the ability to hire them, It'll be interesting.
I've realized that even though the villagers are supposed to have different roles, they don't really seem to do anything, So I'd definitely like to see that happen first. I also wonder why things like weapons would spawn in villager chests when they're supposed to be peaceful. Then again, you could argue why random junk spawns in mine shafts, dungeons and strongholds.
I like the idea of using the green villager model as a ranger, but they should be very minimal (maybe every 1/6 villagers) and should only attack zombies if the golem is dead, otherwise they should just flee like the rest of the villagers. They could be used as a last resort sort of thing. I also think they should be situated at the top of the watchtowers when they're on guard duty.

better idea same thing but if a regular villager is in the house with the dirt floor and the table there should be a new block/entity a regular village wear and when the golem dies the villager puts it on and it becomes a rack that you can take and pick up as an item or craft with iron and when hes done(sunrise(when zombies and skeletons burn)) he returns to the same house and hangs it up but if its gone he stays that exept if you put it back and in the afternoon a new irongolem appers by a blacksmith if there is one and if there isnt then by a bakery or the dirt floor house seems good right
ok so ya know how you said stuff about bow-armed guys...I would rather not. instead we make the soldiers sprint when hostiles are present and be able to bull rush a group of zombies and the knockback from this attack would scatter the group giving a lone fighter a fighting chance against a small army of undead.
also palisade walls near the edges of the town made of a new fence that doesnt connect to the adjacent fence like the current ones do (and also has a pointy tip) note: the palisade would not entirely encircle the town. just near certain areas so there are limited angles of attack.
these things give the soldiers a slight tactical edge while they themselves would naturally be awful fighters considering the given foe: a horde of mobs that take what? five hits to kill?four?
This idea is great, There shouldn't be a reason they can't fight since they're human and so is your own character.. so it's definitely not outlandish. An iron sword is pretty standard too so that's not crazy at all for them to have one. And since 12w21a they can be traded with for a diamond sword. So maybe the really small villages should have a guy with a diamond sword? Since a siege could easily overtake him.
How about he only attacks you, if you harm someone or start trashing the place?
That's what an Iron Golem is for. It might be a little late now to add villagers capable of fighting. No matter how hard I try, I can't picture a squidward-nosed villager holding a weapon while the others just walk around with folded arms. The unused green villager would be much better off as just a villager with a new passive occupation.
I do like where you're going with more Village Defense Entities. But Villagers were not created for combat whatsoever. That's up to the Iron Golems, their sole purpose is to protect and defend. Now surely you're correct, small villages don't have an Iron Golem, and will perish in Zombie sieges. If Villagers do get another AI for attacking, it should be a bow and arrow. Why? Because they're cowardly, meaning they run away from evil mobs. Fighting zombies directly is against their will. A bow and arrow is not against their will, and they can defend what they have, meaning an indirect approach.
warrior villagers should carry muskets rather than bows or swords because they would make a great defense system when mixed with iron golems and add a new weapon to the game. Keep in mind I am talking about a very primitive firearm not a hunting rifle or AK47.
I think it should be used as a medical expert. Lets say after a zombie raid, a few villagers are hurt but not killed. These villagers in green robes could heal them. This would make villages actually function more like a real village while not taking away to point of having a few Iron golems around. Just my opinion though.
I think due to the upcoming villager utility - trading, this topic has become more relevant, because it would be easy to grief the villages when they have very slow/little/inefficient protection right now, where a single player can ruin village economy in SMP by simply slaughtering a entire village with very little effort.

Instead of swords, though, they should have various psychic powers, like firing a fire charge at a zombie, or calling down a lightning strike.
