In any case, this is an Idea I have liked for a long time. Full support.
However, if I could add one thing to this, it would be that there's a certain button you press while transformed to make a sound like the Mob. I'd love to make people crap themselves by making the Creeper Hiss right behind them when they're all tucked up in bed >:3
Yeah, that would be hilarious. I could imagine it now...
This is a fantastic idea. But wolves don't drop anything...
It might be for the better. I can imagine a wolf being too fast (hence overpowered) and easily detectable. "Here doggy, take this bone! Oh, it doesn't seem to care, I'll just kill the spy."
It could be splash potion too. Just throw it to enemy base and they turn into... PIGS!!! I love this!!!
Aaah, that would be awesome. I was just thinking about using splash disguise potions to hit NPCs created by the Citizens plugin to make some scripted zombie attacks.
Turning a creeper into a seemingly harmless chicken would be awesome! Then a player tries to kill it and gets his house blown up.
Eiji approves of this. Here's a question... should one's equipment not be disabled while polymorphed? This both prevents issues of "why is the cow holding a pickaxe with its face" as well as acting as a limitation to what the creature would normally be able to do. That is, its an even trade... lose the ability to use items, gain movement modes and stealth.
You could have them make their typical cry with left click, and cancel the potion prematurely with right-click. Then, have fun stalking people as a creeper, hissing, and watching them run for their lives.

Sir, there is a high risk of you being slashed with a sword because of that.

How about still having the ability to use items, but they don't show for other people? It shouldn't be an even trade... the potions are not cheap.
Problem is this would only be useful in Multiplayer.
Not completely; you could use it in singleplayer to avoid being attacked (disguise yourself as a pig to not get attacked by a creeper).
But I would also argue that the whole game is only fun in multiplayer. Many items are only useful in multiplayer, and singleplayer gets boring after a couple of days.
three mobs undisguisable as:
SILVERFISH
WOLVES
TESTIFICATES!
I think those are all the non-drop mobs...
If you see a silverfish walking around, you know that it's a player. The wolves are obvious because they don't react to bones (and everyone who sees a wolf tries to tame it). Testificates have very specific behavior, making them also obvious. I don't think disguise potions are really needed for these.
Well this is a great idea. Not only you can turn into a mob but it would also make it useful for war games on servers. Like for example, there are animals in the middle of the war, one person is a mob and pretends to be a mob. This will give a advantage to the players being able to hijack. And also it would make it so people would be more scared of mobs, killing every single one.
You know, this would also be cool if you turned yourself into a pig. Then, another player could put a saddle on you, and you could transport him! Also, what if a disguised player rides a pig? Pigs riding pigs riding pigs.... yo dawg....
I just want to remind you all that Jeb will never hear this idea unless you tweet it to him.
I don't know how to do that. Also, I have a feeling that they check these forums even though they say that they don't. If I had a suggestions page, I'd claim that I don't check it so less bad ideas get submitted. Just look at Mojang's GetSatisfaction page. It's full of trash like "fix the server overloaded error" (this is like asking them to make the Minecraft server magically give your computer more RAM or something).
Either way, the point is to produce buzz and publicity about it. My hope is that someone with more influence will try to tell Jeb about this.

Yeah, but perhaps if the player disguised as tamed wolves? Then nobody will try and tame you, and for some reason nobody ever goes after an enemy player's wolves unless they're actively attacking. You could also crouch to sit down.
Wow, didn't even think of that. Yeah, it could. Some sort of minecraft film or something.
What's up? I'm the proud co-owner of a little ClassiCube server called Minebuild.

Sometimes, you just need a little more cave.
