I'm always thinking of new ideas to add to the suggestion, so you'll probably see me add reasons to go to the end in the future... 'Endernum', a purple ore found in end stone, perhaps. Of course, I still need to think of more reasons that they should be added to the game.
These suggestions are nice but feel like a bland addition. I think that adding these ores would be cool but not if they are used in the same way as diamond. I think that using them as potions ingredients is a good idea, but not as armour. I think the wood - stone - iron - diamond hierarchy should not be messed with. And unless they have a built in interface which shows the stats of various materials, how is one supposed to know that this or that has .2 more duriability?
My suggestion is, what if all these were used to make jewellery? I'm not going to expand on this now, but basically, using gold ingots on the crafting bench, you can make rings, bracelets, necklaces and maybe even crowns/tiaras. These could be enchanted to give various bonuses, for example a sapphire necklace would give underwater breathing, ect. It would give new uses for gold and also be a more original addition.
Interesting ideas! Another idea that I was going to add to the OP is that if you don't feel there should be new tools or armour, alternatively the gems can be use with tools or weapons when crafting, giving that tool abilities, similar to your Jewellery idea. For example, a sapphire could be used to give helmets a specific enchantment, i.e. Water Breathing.
I would tell you how my life is better than yours, but there is no point, you wouldn't listen. But I guarantee that I am better at you with learning and education. I am far above the average.
And my thoughts on magic and realism is an opinion, so is your idea about me, that is an opinion. Don't need to make a post bitching about me bitching because that is hypocritical.
Wow, this guy really likes to roll a red carpet wherever he goes doesn't he? Okay, your magic and realism is an option, but don't go around shoving it in people's faces. If you don't like the suggestion, just leave a post saying I don't support it and give a valid reason why. Don't go on about realism and stuff. Minecraft isn't very realistic either so I don't understand why you're here.
The 'only mined with Gold' is just an idea, I wanted to make Gold a little more useful.
And, they're not all the same. They all have different mining speed, resistance, durability, etc. and their own special abilities. I feel like you haven't really read it.
Of course, I don't want these to be in the game to use to mine things fast, or anything like that. I like the ideas of having tools with special abilities, so you can choose more powerful armour like diamond, or armour with special abilities, like the ones I suggested.
But, that's not even the most important thing. A lot of people argue that we should have more ores, but we don't need more tools or armour. I, personally, agree, despite what I put in the suggestion (remember, they're just suggestions). However, I really want new potions to be in the game. That's a real 'use' to these new ores, rather than tools which we might not even need.
I admit I kind of dozed of after reading some of your post, but if you wanted new potions, why not make more herbs or something along the lines of that? You sounded you wanted more weapons and armor instead of potions.
The 'only mined with Gold' is just an idea, I wanted to make Gold a little more useful. (...)
Actually, Gold is already quite useful. It just may not be useful to everyone. Gold tools are much more enchantable, which is one reason to have them, though sparingly, and depending on your texture pack, golden armour may look quite interesting.
However, apart from that, you need gold to make golden apples, which are much more feasible now that red apples drop from trees, and to make glistering melons for your life-saving Healing II potions (which frankly anyone playing survival not on peaceful should have in grand amounts). Thus while you can make these ores require gold for mining, it's not really that urgent.
Also, I find Jeb's reluctance to add seemingly useless ores a bit disturbing considering some of the nearly useless features that have been added since 1.0.0. But that's another story. At any rate, an ore does not have to be used solely for producing equipment - it could be used to create additional decorative storage blocks (and God knows we can only do so much with wool replacements) or even used in some other future functionality (maybe enchanting via resources rather than just XP, or brewing, or additional crafting recipes).

YES. God knows we need more potions and ingredients. Eleven ingredients, many of which crafted rather than dropped, are just not enough. While I'm glad I finally have a good use for all that redstone and even glowstone I hoarded, as well as melons and sugar cane, things like magma cream and ghast tears are just too troublesome to get, especially the latter (which is a bit silly considering regeneration potions are nothing compared to Healing II).
I'd love to see additional ingredients and herbs and whatnot. Perhaps if you can't have enough potion effects for all the ingredients, then provide new ingredients as alternate resources, to make things easier, especially if you don't fancy the Nether that much.

Go off, grab some ideas for herbs and make your own thread. Your idea of herbs is something that MUST be added to the game. Personally, I still want new ores, but the farming system in Minecraft is severely lacking, and herbs sounds like what we need to enhance it.
Do I detect SARCASM?! And here I thought that this thread was the only idea that was good enough for Minecraft.
Nope, no sarcasm, I just think that that's also a cool idea. I'd prefer new ores to be added, so I don't know why I said 'MUST be added to the game', but herbs sound like a cool idea too, I love farming in Minecraft.

I think you misunderstood. x) Writing doesn't do much for conveying emotions unless it's artistic writing. Anyway, I agree with adding new herbs to Minecraft to expand the farming system, perhaps even merging with the brewing system. Sure, there are mods out there like Xie's Farming and Millénaire that add new crops, but the core game would do nicely with additional plants.
One thing I'd like is the ability to grow Nether Wart in the Overworld with some expensive mechanics - mainly since it helps dearly in SMP servers where Nether fortresses have often been scavenged beyond hope already.

Yes please.
Though I prefer more stone blocks like marble and different colors of silt or clay, any new block that I can put in a design or structure is gravy to me. Not sure if I'm keen on the idea of gem armor though, but maybe using the gems to make different colors of tinted glass would be total gravy.
i just came on the suggestion forum the suggest more minerals but i saw this... well this is a very good idea because it will bring more fun and excitement to minecraft. They shouldn't over power the diamonds. diamonds should still stay on the top of the pyramid. Minecraft has started to get a bit dull and boring because i finish all my goals in a couple days. but this wont happen with more minerals in Minecraft. I really don't see how someone could possibly disagree with this! especially the picture provided just makes me so excited. there is only about 4 kinds of armor and materials for tools. in my opinion that is not enough at all.

good idea but......R U KIDDING ME!!?!?!!1111??!, i mean seriously...y u make platinum only be stacks of 16? i mean eggs and snowballs in real life would be really light and in minecraft you can only carry stacks of 16 and iron, gold, obsidian, etc. in real life would be pretty heavy and in minecraft you can carry stacks of 64! well my point is minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic! cuz c'mon! undead creatures, giant spiders, green sadfaced explosive things, and even some sorta hell thingy! hell doesn't even exist!!! the last thing we need is something realistic!!!!!
also i got another ore, solified lava: found near lava pools, can only be mined by iron pickaxe and above, also if you brew it with an awkward potion it makes a "potion of fire" that if you drink it you get set on fire and if you throw a "splash potion of fire" it sets the mob in the effect radius on fire!

Platinum is pretty similar to diamond, so you could argue that it's not needed since it's not as good as diamond. What problems do you find with it?

Great idea
I suppose it does. Do you think thatit would still be OP if these armour types were unenchantable?
