I was digging a hole in minecraft and the fact that there arent many types of ore came to mind
so i decided to try to come up with a new, very usefull ore
I have the ore properties thought up but cant come up with a good name (if you have an idea for the name post it)
for now we'll call it sky ore
sky ore should be found only above y 120, inside of newer taller mountains (the mountains need to be added)
it would be in veins of 2-3 and would be an orange rock.
it would need to be mined with a stone or better pickaxe and would drop 2-3 dust piles each. if mined with a gold pickaxe (gold is a soft metal) it will drop 1 sky ore gem, which could be made into tools with powers ill explain later
the dust of the ore could be combined with 8 redstone (sky dust in midlle, surrounded by redstone) to make 20 "sky redstone" which could be placed on ceilings and walls and carry a signal like regular redstone.
the sky dust can alo be combined with a lilypad to make a jump pad/fall damage reducer (finnaly, a use for lilypads). another possible use for sky dust is to use it to make a commpass that actually points to the bed you last slept in.
now to the special tools made with sky gems
pickaxe: whatever you mine with this doesnt fall down (useful for mining near lava so the iftems wont fall and burn)
Axe: when used on an oak/apple tree the trunk mined will have a chance of dropping a gold apple
shovel: when mining sand or gravel, if there is more sand or gravel it will not fall after you finish mining the bottom block (makes it possible to make tunnels in deserts)
hoe: plowed land will not revert to dirt if jumped on
sword:2x knockback (including enchantment knockback)
if you have any more ideas please feel free to add them
good idea!
I had a few more ideas but my hand got tired
heres some more I have:
-ability to combine 3 sky gems with a bucket of water, to make a bucket of sky water, that flows upwards to the top of the game
-make sky dust+ wool and string into a parachute
-use it to make a fan, that when powered pushes dropped items and mobs 5 blocks away (placed like a piston)
However, the pickaxe and the axe's 'power' are terrible (in my opinion). There is also no need for a hoe that does that, just crouch, it's not that hard.

The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.
If you create a sword with the lightning shard, it will have a 25% chance of electrocuting enemies. The only downside.... charged creepers. : Thankssssss for the power-up.... sssssss BOOM

Yeah, just a thought.
That's actually a very amusing and cool idea. Very smart (or stupid) players could attempt to use that for terraforming/mining.

but the power is for if mobs jump on the crops
maybe the pickaxe will also give you a chance when mining stone for the stone to drop an ore too

"Floaty Useless Rock."
for now we'll call it sky ore
I think you mean "Floaty Useless Rock"!
sky ore should be found only above y 120, inside of newer taller mountains (the mountains need to be added)
So it doesn't really float, it's just found in mountains that don't exist. Uhhhh...
it would be in veins of 2-3 and would be an orange rock.
"Hey, can we have a sprite to go along with this? GIMP has a hue slider that you could-" "GTFO, I'M BUSY LETTING EVERYONE KNOW THAT IT WOULD ONLY SPAWN IN MOUNTAINS THAT DON'T EXIST"
it would need to be mined with a stone or better pickaxe and would drop 2-3 dust piles each.
So, Useless Floaty Rock (which doesn't exist, remember) is apparently iron except it drops dust. Yay, sounds useful!
if mined with a gold pickaxe (gold is a soft metal)
Then it does the same exact thing?! I mean...
it will drop 1 sky ore gem,
Look, using a crappy pickaxe doesn't mean that gems won't shatter if you hit them. In real life, we don't send people down diamond mines with cardboard pickaxes so the diamonds won't break.
which could be made into tools with powers ill explain later
Oh yay. You can make tools out of non-existent Useless Floaty Stone. Do the tools exist? Maybe they can mine air with their existential powers!
the dust of the ore could be combined with 8 redstone
to make crack cocaine?
(sky dust in midlle, surrounded by redstone) to make 20 "sky redstone"
****ing hell, now we have "sky redstone" that also doesn't exist.
which could be placed on ceilings and walls and carry a signal like regular redstone.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this recipe makes way too much sky redstone - luckily, sky redstone doesn't exist, so it's not overpowered.
the sky dust can alo be combined with a lilypad to make a jump pad/fall damage reducer
This crafting recipe... it makes no sense! You know when you sprinkle Useless Floaty Rock (even though it doesn't exist) on lilypads and suddenly you can leap to the heavens? If you think doing this will make you jump higher, you've inhaled too much sky redstone.
(finnaly, a use for lilypads).
At lonng last!

Darn.

So the items just... float there? This sounds pretty useless actually.
Axe: when used on an oak/apple tree the trunk mined will have a chance of dropping a gold apple
Again, this sounds overpowered, but it doesn't exist either. (He didn't even give the odds!)
shovel: when mining sand or gravel, if there is more sand or gravel it will not fall after you finish mining the bottom block
Ehh... sounds like work. Real men hold up sand tunnels with TORCHES!!
(makes it possible to make tunnels in deserts)
Yup...
hoe: plowed land will not revert to dirt if jumped on
Could be useful, but it doesn't exist so it's not.
How about only found above y 70 so that it can exist. Also, you should be able to combine the sky gem with 4 sky dust and 4 gold nuggets (like this(pretend the diamond is sky gem, blaze powder is sky dust, and gold ingots are gold nuggets) to get airgemnium. Airgemnium can be used to make iron-quality tools. However, they do not break. Also, each tool has a certain power.
Picks mine ores (only ores) twice as fast.
Axes mine logs (and only logs) twice as fast.
Shovels can dig sand and gravel while it falls.
Hoes hoe dirt into hydrated farmland (but it can still dry out).
Armor has an inverse effect against swords.
EDIT: I think I might have a better name for it. Tell me if you would prefer Airgemnium or Caeligemma.
If you want to know how I got the second name, look in the spoiler below.

I really like how mining it with a gold pickaxe is the only way to yield a bar. I however, don't like the tools. I think a sky ore should not be used to make tools with special abilities now that enchantments exist. Everything but that is good. Here is another use: you brew the sky dust into a potion to make the unused potion that makes you jump higher.

I'm all for a new ore, but this is just... super unique special snowflake powder. Why are the effects completely different between different tools with no kind of overarching theme? Why does it work with redstone, and why can you make a compass from it? Nothing about this makes sense.
It doesn't help that these effects are either nearly useless or disgustingly OP.

this is rarer than daimond
its found only in the tallest mountains, in groups of 2 - 3.
there are at most 2 - 4 mountains of that size in an average mountain biome.
it still wouldnt be in 100% of those mountains
and mountain biomes arent exactly as common these days
this totals up o this being in 1% of chunks.
daimon is foundin like 50% of chunks
with that rarity you could turn this into the death star and it wouldnt be overpowerd

This ore only goes a quarter of a step further than the frequently suggested "obsidian tools," but most of the functions are those who are lazy or careless, other functions are just pointless.
Skygem picks make items float when mined.
Skygem hoes prevent farmland from being tramped.
Skydust can be used to connect redstone on walls or ceilings.
Are these truly necessary? Why would I want to use Skydust as redstone extensions when the thing is so rare. I like the idea of finding unique ores in mountains but Skydust or Skygem have no worthy implementations, so until this thread get some massive edits I'm sticking to diamond.

What does this have to do with snow?!?
Clearly, you don't know what the term "special snowflake" means. It doesn't actually have anything to do with snow.
It means when you try to make something super special and unique for no reason other than being special and it ends up dumb because you're trying too hard.
Why are the effects completely different between different tools with no kind of overarching theme?
Fine, id like to see you come up with better ideas
Saying that people can only criticize something if they can do better is like saying that if a chef serves them ****, they can only say it's bad if they go cook something to one-up it. Get over yourself.
Because the current redstone cant go on walls and cielings
That doesn't explain why this ore should be able to do this.
Wouldn't it make more sense to make redstone be able to do that by itself, especially since this stuff is apparently super rare and lots of redstone machines get really big and would require a lot of it?
It doesn't help that these effects are either nearly useless or disgustingly OP.
overpowered?

The difference is that diamond is underground deep down, and from the surface, there's no way to see where it is. With this, it will always be at the huge ****ing mountains. They kind of stand out.
So a player could just run around from mountain to mountain, relatively easily able to find this ridiculous stuff.
Either way, being rare does not mean that it cannot be OP. It still does stuff that is either
a: Ridiculously good, or
b: Useless.
I was digging a hole in minecraft and the fact that there arent many types of ore came to mind
so i decided to try to come up with a new, very usefull ore
Always think of a new function that would be useful and would fit the game, then add an ore to it, not the other way around.
I have the ore properties thought up but cant come up with a good name (if you have an idea for the name post it)
for now we'll call it sky ore
sky ore should be found only above y 120, inside of newer taller mountains (the mountains need to be added) I always wanted to see ores other then coal spawning in mountains.
it would be in veins of 2-3 and would be an orange rock. Number should be higher, orange rock, interesting.
it would need to be mined with a stone or better pickaxe and would drop 2-3 dust piles each. if mined with a gold pickaxe (gold is a soft metal) it will drop 1 sky ore gem, which could be made into tools with powers ill explain later Hold the phone chief, you get two seperate items which are completly unrelated to each other from the same ore depending on the pickaxe you mine it with? Uh, that is a bit dumb if you ask me. How can an ore drop both dust and gems anyways? And we do not need more tools just for the sake of new tools (enchantments are for special powers of those tools if you ask me, not the tool itself).
the dust of the ore could be combined with 8 redstone (sky dust in midlle, surrounded by redstone) to make 20 "sky redstone" which could be placed on ceilings and walls and carry a signal like regular redstone. That sounds a bit too complicated to code in from my point of view, besides, what's the point in having ceilling placeable "skyredstone" if you cannot place redstone related items (levers, buttons, repeaters etc.) the same way?
the sky dust can alo be combined with a lilypad to make a jump pad/fall damage reducer (finnaly, a use for lilypads). another possible use for sky dust is to use it to make a commpass that actually points to the bed you last slept in. Cobweb/water already acts as a great damage reducer, and jump pad? That sounds very unfitting in vanilla if you ask me and kinda useless. Lilly pads already have a use: Aestetic purposes and traveling on water much easier then with a boat. What is the point of two compasses..? Why not just edit the original to act like the one you suggested as well?
now to the special tools made with sky gems
pickaxe: whatever you mine with this doesnt fall down (useful for mining near lava so the iftems wont fall and burn. That sounds extremly stupid to me, you can't have dropped items just float there, besides, I'm sure it'd be a ***** to code it like that.
Axe: when used on an oak/apple tree the trunk mined will have a chance of dropping a gold apple Trunk dropping a gold apple? Why would you need to get a golden apple from a trunk if you can already craft them and find them in dungeouns?
shovel: when mining sand or gravel, if there is more sand or gravel it will not fall after you finish mining the bottom block (makes it possible to make tunnels in deserts) You do realise that would take the entire physics engine to be rewritten, right?
hoe: plowed land will not revert to dirt if jumped on Again, that would take way too much coding effort for something so useless.
sword:2x knockback (including enchantment knockback) That doesn't even make sense, why would you need a higher knockback then the one you can already have with usual enchantments?
if you have any more ideas please feel free to add them No, not really, sorry. This entire suggestion is just terrible in my eyes.
so i decided to try to come up with a new, very usefull ore

Also, make a few more uses for it. Even iron has more uses.
How about this, If you combine sky powder and a diamond, you get a lightning shard.
This will make a pick with a wonderful amount of speed.
I had a few more ideas but my hand got tired

The difference is that diamond is underground deep down, and from the surface, there's no way to see where it is. With this, it will always be at the huge ****ing mountains. They kind of stand out.
So a player could just run around from mountain to mountain, relatively easily able to find this ridiculous stuff.
Either way, being rare does not mean that it cannot be OP. It still does stuff that is either
a: Ridiculously good, or
b: Useless.
