That could definitely be a solution, yes ^ I certainly like it a lot better than just simply adding dye to glass as some people suggested... some kind of liquid solution that stains the glass makes sense. And I also like how it adds more use to cauldrons.
The main reason I had colored sand is because it would also make color sandstone, color steps, and color halfblocks (which is something I have also always wanted) along with colored glass. I just haven't added that detail to the diagram yet.
I don't think alll that should be added. They could just add halfblock wool. I do like the caldron idea though.
Either does colored sandstone. I did't say wool steps I said halfblocks.
Wait, yes colored sandstone does make sense, it is a cemented version of colored sand which is possible because sand is porous and the resulting steps would be rigged as steps should be. Wool steps don't make sense because it is not ridged as it is made of wool...I don't know about you but I think it would be hard to walk up or even make steps out of wool
I have to say that colored sand, as just a way to make glass is fine. But the concept of place able colored sand, colored sandstone, etc. just doesn't belong in the game. If you want to be able to colorize every block in the game, then you should advocate for a paint or stain system that allows you to tint different textures as they did with coloring wood planks.
See I was initially upset about this post (and I've said this before) because stained glass isn't a new idea; it's been around for a long time and it's been very popular as well. When I looked at your post in detail, your saving grace is that you use colored sand to make the glass, which makes your idea, at least to my knowledge, unique and different from the previous stained glass requests. The problem is, while it makes the idea different, I don't' think it's the optimal solution from the standpoint that it's usually easier to get something simple implemented rather than complex.
If you really want stained glass added to the game and want to garner support, I honestly think you should change your post or make a new one that focuses on the mechanics of stained glass first, then offer up 2 or 3 ways to make it, including your colored sand idea. But before you make a new post, do a search, there may be one already with strong support.
why would you be upset? I was agreeing with your post and I think it s a excellent solution. What else do you want me to say?
What people have failed to realize about this topic is the diagrams and explanations at the beginning of the topic are nothing more than ideas that I came up with to solve a problem. It does not mean they are the best solutions nor am I trying to state that they are. I posted them only to get people thinking critically about the idea of colored glass and colored light and perhaps get them to suggest good ideas of their own; which you have done. Therefore, there is no reason to get upset. I didn't think the dying glass idea was well thought out before because people just suggested that you add dye to glass. But your solution makes sense; dyeing the water to make a stain that could be used on all kinds of objects is the kind of idea innovation I was talking about.
Also, I did do a search before making this thread and there isn't a single post about colored glass that also suggests the creation of colored light. The procedures were also much different.

What are you talking about? The wood planks all use different textures on the terrain.png file.

Yes, I was like "Wait, what? Nope."
I would like to say that not only does my idea actually propose a way for any texture to use grayscale + tinting (and derive from somewhere else) , it is all optional and controlled by the texture artists. one of the examples is actually making all of the wooden planks' textures derive from one grayscale image
Just saying, this idea would greatly benefit from the implementation of mine.

I like it a lot, but not colored sand. I will support, but colored sand is not a good addition to the game because we already have wool for multicolored stuff and it just seems like a pointless block to add. I would try to find a way to add colored glass, which is a great idea, to the game without making multi-colored sand blocks.

If you really want this to get off the ground, post it on reddit. I heard Jeb reads the supported/top minecraft suggestions there, not in this doomed suggestions forum. I don't mean to spam it or his twitter, I mean to get this noticed at least.
I only say this because of how great and reasonable this suggestion is.

This looks more amazing than something i have seen before im not being rude to you actually but there was a guy who tried to make a mod that added colored lighting and hes been sitting on it since 1.6. Dissappointing but this mod could seriously amp up the way people light up anything in minecraft :D. And also could making black glass have a Black-Light effect? that would be neat but probably almost impossible to do. idk light engines are not my area. BUt if anyone could actually do this they would up at the top with the people who make insane mods like Risugami, Eloraam (RedPower), Spacetoad, and more!
I only agree with half of this. Yes, I do want colored glass, but colored sand and light changing I don't like. I think adding dye to glass should make colored glass. And instead of colored light, everything would be the color if you look though it.
I don't think alll that should be added. They could just add halfblock wool. I do like the caldron idea though.

I now also want this supported in the game. It would be very fun.
