The Void Dimension is a dimension in the void, at level y=64 or something (it'll probably be too hard for notch to program it to be below bedrock level) So it's not technically in the void - but just assume it is
This will implement a use for the dragon egg you get when you beat the enderdragon.
Just like you use ender eyes to locate a stronghold, you have use the dragon egg to find a portal to the void.
The dragon egg, when clicked will teleport to the direction of the portal.
The Void is a dark, flat, and deserted place, and it is an infinitely generating world (not like the End)
Structures similar to NPC villages naturally spawn sometimes known as Ruins (you can imagine it as being a deserted city), and it randomly has tall buildings, bars, apartments, universities and small houses
The Void Dimension has a boss in it, the unimplemented Red Dragon, which shoots stuff thats simliar to ghast fireballs that explodes on impact with same radius as TNT
I'm still working on it so I'm open to any ideas or suggestions.
Remember that this is still in progress and it's nowhere near perfect
Some pictures:
These pics aren't the actual Void dimension; its the portal room
I'm still working on the void itself
When you press the bedrock button after putting down the dragon egg, it will teleport inside the portal room itself (see bottom pictures)
I like this idea. Though how about falling below the bedrock level teleports you into the void, but kills you with falling damage, while the portal doesn't.
Not under the frickin world, in a different world! That'll make for less room in the minecraft! and besides that, the void is under the point where the game stops generating game, so he can't add ANYTHING down there! the void is still under 0, but the portal takes you to a portal which brings you to the void realm (nothing but blackness, the light is like the end's, and you can still see everything). You can see the sun go down UNDER the horizon during the day, and the moon do the same during the night (like when you go too high up in creative, you can see the sun and moon go from the top to the bottom and back to the top[just fly really high in creative, and you'll see what I mean.])
This is a stupid idea. Finding one of the very few holes in the bedrock under a lava pool would be reward enough for getting there. If you look at Minutor, you can see occasional stone where there should be bedrock.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
I really like the idea of the dragon egg needed to go to the world. But, I'm not sure if I like the boss. I've never really like the idea of bosses in minecraft, & I don't think we need anymore. I agree with the post above that red-dragons should be rare mobs in the nether.
But unique items would be nice in the worl would be nice.

I really like this idea but there should be some hostile rare mob in the void like a wraith or something, just so that people can't have a safe world after they beat the red dragon. Also in the deserted buildings there must be loot And maybe you could make it so that silverfish blocks spawn in also.
I dont like a tiny bit of this idea there would be to much dimensions end what would the point of this dimension be? like:
nether=hell
end= rimboe/horizon
also, like wiki sais the sky-dimension is still coming (heaven) so that makes 4 dimensions. and whit the void it would be 5 which is really to much.
i do like the sky-dimension idea of Notch
the sky dimension has been removed from the game ever since they added the end, because the end was made from the sky dimension. "end=rimboe/horizon" what? and plus the void doesn't really count as a dimension, since the void is just a fancy name for the empty space beyond the bedrock layer in the overworld
I think that a dimension whose block ratio to the overworld is the opposite of the nether's would be a nice touch. In other words, 8 blocks in the world translate to 1 in the regular world. If we could create portals to it wherever we wanted, we could use it for storage, like we use the nether for fast travel.
But like the nether is dangerous to use for travel if you haven't built structures to defend yourself in transit, there should probably be some sort of inherent danger that isn't a boss you only need to kill once.

Ooh, THIS could add story.... like, the regular world was sent into the void by the Endermen and Enderdragon, but then a new world was created, and you got up to it by sacrificing your memories... Testificates evolved in new world.... Remnants of humans are left (aka strngholds)... Mebbeh n Void there is a surviving lone/band of human(s)? Anyways, I always wanted more to the mysterious Void... Good job!

Cross section (with dragon egg already teleported inside)
The portal
when the dragon egg is inside the giant dragon egg the 3x3 portal'll be lit.
Oh yeah like the aether mod
thats an awesome idea
other than that, great.

If anything, the Red Dragon should be put as a rare Mob in the Nether.
or -1 me with your mind. One of them is less frustrating.
But unique items would be nice in the worl would be nice.

We need Mojang to focus on IMPROVING what's already in the game, not ADDING more.
And a use for the dragon egg is more than likely already planned or else it wouldn't be in the game.
Minecraft is not a dimension-hopping game. We have the world, we have Hell, and we have a disturbing eldritch dimension. Isn't that enough?
If anything, The End could use a bit more.
One chants out between two worlds: "Fire - Walk with me."
(OMG... COLORS!!!!)

And forgive me if this is prejiduce but I will never support more dimensions because I believe the Nether and the End should be enough.
