I don't like the fireworks idea, but I agree with all other idea's.I would also like to be able to combine flint with 2 pieces of bamboo to make a spear to hit mobs from bigger distances. The spear would be stronger than cobblestone swords but weaker than iron swords I suppose...
I like bamboo spears more than swords/tools, but not by much. The tools/weapons I'd be most inclined to add would be a Bo Staff and a fishing rod, but for reasons I've stated before I'm not comfortable with adding them now.
I made a post that was pretty much the same, but people hated it. Nice that you made a post that people liked support!
Not too much the same I hope? I pride myself in posting original ideas and preforming thorough searches before creating an original topic. It would devastate me if I missed a topic and copied someone else's work. Do you have a link I could follow?
Bamboo is a great idea. I definitely support this.
Bamboo groves would be pretty cool. Tall like spruce trees but perhaps you can walk through the blocks like reeds.
I think bamboo should drop bamboo poles, which can be used to create bamboo spears (a weapon).
The scaffolding is an awesome idea as well. To keep it unique from ladders, maybe have scaffolding be a block with a solid hit-box, which can be climbed and also stood on top of. So you can stack up blocks of this like a ladder (except it doesn't have to attach to a wall, you can just place them like any normal block) and also stand on top of it.
Support times ten! I love all the uses of this, I think that there should just be a bit of a retexture for bamboo in the place of sticks in tools. Also, I was thinking maybe bamboo shears? I heard that you can make bamboo incredibly sharp, so my reasoning is that sharper means more wool cut and more wool cut means more wool dropped, so the bamboo shears would make a drop rate of 2-5 wool, but they have only 20 durability. The only problem with it is that bamboo is easier to obtain then iron, and since bamboo is rather hard, perhaps you need a stone axe or better to cut it? You may have said that idea already and I didn't notice it, but if you did, great idea!

This has been brought up multiple times, so the fault is probably mine for not making it explicit enough in the OP. To remedy this, I'll be redoing the crafting diagrams with custom textures (to the best of my ability, I'm not a great artist) as well as revising the written content to make it more clear.
For now, let me temporarily clarify: Bamboo poles will not and shall never be supported as a strait up substitution for wood sticks in this topic thread. This means no bamboo picks, bamboo swords, bamboo shovels, etc. The only tool or weapons I will ever suggest will be unique ones, like a Bo Staff weapon that has reach and a better block or a bamboo fishing rod which, although is made with bamboo instead of sticks, will behave in a completely different manner than a hard wood fishing rod (it will have no reel for example, and other major mechanical changes). Any suggestion that makes bamboo fill a role already filled by something else weakens my argument that bamboo is unique and more than just an aesthetic addition. The only exception to this is paper creation, but that's because I don't think sugar cane should be the substance paper is made from (it's not an issue I'm willing to kill the thread on, but it's one I think is worth mentioning).
Next revisions will include an updated stance on Pandas, new (basic) crafting diagrams that don't use sticks or wheat for icons, and other minor revisions.
Added new crafting images to remove stick and wheat stand-ins
Removed Paper crafting recipe
Clarified my stances on reoccurring suggestions, including Pandas, Bamboo = Sticks, Bamboo Tools, etc.
The new crafting recipe images were made using my limited/non-existent art skills in order to remove the subtext (Sticks represent Bamboo poles, etc.), give a better visual representation, and hopefully remove the inclination to assume that bamboo poles are the same thing as hardwood sticks. I may revise and improve the images at a later time.
I removed the paper crafting recipe because I decided that should really stay with the sugar cane/reeds and suggesting that bamboo could make paper doesn't reinforce my point that bamboo is very different from reeds/sugar cane.
My next goal is to revise the basic bamboo plant mechanics to make it more defined and unique, which will include adding bamboo shoots as a random drop from bamboo as suggested by VermillionTwilight and AnonTheMouse
Wow, I really like this. Another unique material, with some uses of it's own. Perhaps it could also be used to make a crude blow dart? Combined with a poison poison for deadly darts? Well...maybe that is too much. Haha.
But I like this. I'm thinking...it should be in a "asian" biome. With a tree to go along with it, and a flower/plant or two.
Either way. I like the idea of Bamboo and Reeds being different from each other.

Poison darts has been suggested in other threads and I am considering them for this one. There are a lot of mechanics to be worked out though so it'll be a while still (here are just some of the things I'm thinking about).
I am a big fan of Bonsai trees, but funny enough, we already have them. Just place a sapling in dirt in your house and make it so it can't grow into a full tree.if flower pots were ever added (giving a use to clay), that could also work for potting Bonsai.
Made some brief revisions to the OP to add Bamboo shoots as a drop and the new method to plant bamboo. Next I'll add some uses for bamboo shoots as food source.
I'm also working on adding bamboo fishing poles to the topic as another crafting recipie. My main issue is just making a bamboo fishing pole have more durability or can cast longer or even have an increased chance of catching fish is not a unique enough mechanic change to merit it being added. What I'm looking for is:
New mechanics or dimensions to be added to fishing, such as water depth, volume, biome location, and movement effecting the frequency or type of fish caught.
Enchantments to be adding to fishing rods to give them more depth
Using different wood to make different types of fishing rods would really make bamboo fishing rods very feasible
If anyone knows any topics that do a solid job of expanding fishing mechanics in the manner suggested above (my light search has yielded nothing of worth), Post a link or suggestion. In the mean time, I'll put this crafting recipe on hold until Mojang expands the fishing mechanics or shows an inclination to in that area.
Maybe a dart tube/shooter, you load a dart in it and it would shoot it out.
Recipe: = 4 Darts
You can make a poisoned dart by putting a spider eye above a dart and it would give 1 Poison Dart.

The shooter would be crafted with 3 bamboo rods going vertical.

How about bamboo pickaxes use bamboo poles as the handle and plain bamboo as the toolhead. To make them unique, they have only 1 durability, but can collect any block (except for bedrock) in 0.1 to 1 second and gives you the drop. Also, they should stack up to 64.

From what I figure, if I were to add a bamboo blow pipe, it would be something weaker and less effective then a bow in both damage and range, but easier to acquire early on. With that in mind, I'd probably use either hardwood sticks or bamboo (not bamboo poles) to craft the darts and the damage would be minimal. Also, to make poison darts, you could use a fermented spider eye with the standard dart recipe. The question then would be are all darts poison darts or can you craft normal and poison darts? Also, giving a player access to poison damage would make killing things a bit too easy if your safe and protected. There would have to be some balence, like the poison having a short duration (encouraging you to time out your shots to wait for the poison to do it's damage or shoot once then close in with your sword).
A lot of unknowns, most new weapon ideas get "shot" down pretty quickly, so I'd have to make it clear that this was only one possibility and would have to really refine the mechanics.

No, I've already stated in the OP that I'm not interested in making the standard tools with bamboo, especially if bamboo would become the tool head (wooden tools are a stretch as is). This idea is overwhelmingly unrealistic and infeasible, giving a pick that you can craft very early that can mine any block, no matter what you make the durability (except 0 for non-existence) is incredibly broken. Furthermore, suggesting that tools can be stacked would be a huge undertaking and would probably kill my thread to the point of being locked.

You said regular tools, and the tools aren't regular. They are unique beyond durability and speed.

A bamboo pickaxe is just a variation of a pickaxe, same with a bamboo axe, bamboo hoe, etc.
A unique tool would be something like bamboo rake that re-textures gravel to make aesthetically pleasing rock gardens. Jumping on the gravel would return it to it's original texture. Or a bamboo pipe bomb that creates a smoke screen to allow ninja stealth tactics. Now that I have two ideas, I need to make sure it preserves game play balanced, establish all the mechanics, and see if it is a reasonable addition to the game.

I'm thinking about the various requests for Pandas and I'll have more on that later this weekend.
