I completely understand that building it part of it. I just feel that balancing the survival part of it is more important than the building part.
For example:
Yes, I know that iron blocks have aesthetic value, although I am not much of an aesthetics type person. However, balancing iron for gameplay purposes is FAR more important than making iron really common so that you can make pretty things out of it.
Which is a completely fair perspective, I think. This is parallel with your play style, so of course it's what you personally feel it best. But is this sort of thing truly best for Minecraft or the community? I'm being very genuine when I ask you that. I just don't want you confusing what you want with what is fair. (I hope that makes sense)
I take it back, I am not sorry I a jerk, but you are incorrigibly ignorant and I have lost any will to keep this up any longer; lest I shoot myself in frustration.
Go back to playing whatever crappy MMO you came from.
There's really no need to act like that. There have been numerous arguments in this section lately and they've all been (mostly) calm and mature in nature.
Iron is admittedly a bit to common now considering how strong the armor is, but considering its uses, the old iron distribution is just broken now. A half an hour of mining for 32 rails? No one would like that.
Perhaps buffing gold items would balance it out. Gold in real life is fragile and would be total crap in making tools and stuff, but gameplay should never be sacrificed for realism.

For those arguing that survival mode is about survival, survival and only survival:
The fact that others are arguing otherwise proves that you're wrong. They're not talking about what should be, they're talking about what is. They're living proof that survival mode is about more than surviving.

Go ahead, try to tell me that I don't exist.
I'm not saying that it is ONLY about survival, just that the survival part of it needs to be focused primarily.

Or maybe we could somehow enhance iron? Like making steel out of it?

I have so much iron stacks... much useless ! I think that reducing the number of iron by 2 would be right.
So because you have a lot of iron they should reduce how much there is? Make it unfair to other players who don't have as much because they have a different play style or they actually use it? It's your fault that you aren't being creative enough to put it to use. Minecraft is a sandbox game about gathering materials, building and surviving. You can do whatever you want, there is no limitations of what you can do.
1.1 Code for iron:
20 ore veins per chunk
8 size of ore veins
64 max y value of spawn
This is a massive amount of iron.
My code for iron:
5 ore veins per chunk
6 size of ore veins
42 max y value of spawn
That is what I want iron to be. It's working fine for me.
If someone wants rails they can always MINE MORE or even steal from the huge mineshafts.
Where is your mod? It sounds interesting from what I have read about it, but I can't find a download for it. Care to provide a link? Is there a multiplayer version?

It's in my sig. xD
I need to update it again, which I'm doing right now. I'll make it for multi when I can.
Anyways, I really miss the ore rarity in alpha, it was very cool. I noticed that coal was still all over the place in alpha, but it spawned underground which made sense.

Would iron tools be buffed? Because I wouldn't mind iron being less common so long as the tools are actually twice as durable as stone or more. Making iron that uncommon without making iron tools better would make iron tools only good for going straight to diamonds, which is what a lot of people (including me) already do. How about up iron's durability to somewhere just under 400?

You can put enchants on iron tools anyways, there's just wayy too much. Not only that, but there's so many gaps in the world that you can find all of it in a snap. We shouldn't even change iron at all, just decrease the amount.

You appear somewhat passionate about this sort of thing, judging by this post and others I've seen these past few days. Have you considered a mod that gives users some control over ore generation? It would allow a lot of people complaining here and now to have a nice alternative. Even I admit I wouldn't mind some additional world-generating options either.

Iron tools, even with their current over-commonness, don't even have double the durability of stone (stone = 132, iron = 251). That's a bit screwed up. Making iron less common but leaving their tools just as fragile makes them kinda crappy. I'm all for lower-quantity but higher-quality iron, but your proposal is lower-quantity and just-as-low-quality.

I see what you mean now. That's only a 13 difference but I guess that would be a great idea. I also think coal should spawn underground. If there are mountains that touch max height, you can have coal technically spawn at max height.
Iron stays but:ckaxe
Make iron tools better- they should have better endurance- The steel pickaxe should be the one we use the most, not the easy to get stone one.
Make a more intuitive repair: (only iron, gold and Diamond items)

brilliant!!! i aprrove
ACTUALLY with how many caves we have now, the iron is more exposed and is therefore much easier to find, making it more plentiful.
This might be part of the problem. We are all pro and we don't even realize it. :cool.gif:
