And for blank record is a diamond circled in 4 obsidian.
To edit the disc, you would right click the editor and have an ui with a fl studio like aperance.

THIS IS NOT ME SAYING THERE'S A MOD FOR THAT. I am showing you an awesome, very well thought out thread on things that NEED to be implemented, but if they are not, a made will likely be made
ALright NO WAY is that getting added, too complicated and you might as well just use music software and play it over the game, and not any people would want to do it.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.

What I am saying is just to get simple loop/beat for now, and the gradualy build on to it.
Garbage in, garbage out. As my geometry teacher says.
It would be too complicated to add to SMP too much lag really. It'd be nice if you could hook a jukebox at the end of a series of note blocks to record your creations, but that is probably asking too much.
Technically it wouldn't lag in SMP. It wouldn't be logical to make everyone download every musical piece that everyone else has made. It would be proper for music to be client side for various reasons. The only way I could see it not being client side is if the server has the disks made. It would then be the player's choice to download the song in order to hear it.
This would propose several new issues for Mojang. They would have to modify their terms of use to remove any liability with copyrights for songs that are implemented in their game. This might be the reason why Notch didn't allow us to modify the original music disks to begin with. I'm almost positive they wouldn't be found liable because its just a music player, but there's also the risk of some dimwitted artist complaining about it, not that the artist would win in court.
It's very risky to add official support. I would do it, because it's a good idea, and its innovative. It's risky but this idea has my support.
What part of Minecraft screams music player? We haven't even seen whether they can do aan API correctly. They probably know absolutely nothing about music.
All I see is major hassles and little reward for Mojang. So why should they code this complicated interface that they don't know anything about? ._.

Good lord like I CLEARLY SAID is to start out simple with a few things and the interface DOES NOT have to be that complicated. Geeze do I have to explain everything..
You know what? I give up. When I try to even suggest a simple idea, everyone just has to make it seem "too hard to do, blah blee blar bla" and do all kinds of **** that really just pisses me off. I NEVER have seen anyone freak out on the complexity of other's suggestions, even though some would be a little hell to implement into the game. I'm done. I've just had enough of being slouched off by you jerks.
The idea of being able to make your own music and play it with the jukebox seems interesting enough, but you gotta consider how hard it would be to implement; Creating your own music and sharing it would require sending it to every player on a server, meaning downloading information that could be altered to contain a virus, or other malicious software.

When making a suggestion, you need to take in mind the drawbacks it would bring, -even worst-case scenarios- and try to adjust the idea to minimize negative impact on the game. While at the same time, try to provide a convincing and detailed post describing your proposed addition, and how it would enhance the overall gameplay without rendering existing content obsolete.
Also, nobody is being a jerk; the majority of the people who posted here have provided valid criticism. It is up to you, the creator of the suggestion, to hold your ground and give reasons why it is a good idea, not stand idly by and hope for some approval.

Do you like space games? I like space games. You should check out Starsector!
Well, custom music disks could work but on SMP it would be that only you can hear the music unless there was some in game gui that you could edit useing noteblock/different sounds so that everybody could hear it.
It's a decent idea but it might be kinda hard to implement.
I have always wanted to have custom music discs, written in a clickable block from a blank record. But now it's time to spread the idea.
Here would be a crafting recipe for an editor:
Where:
- wooden plank
- diamond (duh)
- redstone
- obsidian
And for blank record is a diamond circled in 4 obsidian.
