There is a reason, its intended to be a cute easter egg and add some fun to the game. There is nothing wrong with makig minecraft more cuddly and child friendly.

How is two snowmen having sex together in any way cuddly or child friendly?
Anyone remember when you could attempt at breeding golems?
That was hilarious!
Also, no. Breedable snow golems? Minecraft may not be realistic, but it isn't out right ridiculous.
What would be the point of breeding snow golems anyway?
You can already farm both snow and pumpkins. BAM! That's how you get more golems.

To farm snow and pumpkins. Currently the only way to get snow is to get it out of a snow golem farming machine, this is far more efficient, breeding snowmen that then drop 10-20 blocks of snow + a pumpkin.

Cuddly? Child friendly? Does having demon-possessed statues have sex (and having it work) in public sound at all child friendly to you? Because that's basically what you're suggesting.
NO SUPPORT

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

Why not? Is it because you dont think its child friendly enough?

That, and that it's just stupid. Everyone else has already explained why.

Minecraft isnt for children though, so opposing an idea on it not being child friendly enough is a bit silly. Also, if breeding animals and forcing villagers to reproduce is child friendly enough, how isnt this?
First off, Golems are constructs according to pretty much every lore source including wikipedia, D&D Mosnter manual, and Minecraft (construct them out of snow/iron, hence constructs). Constructs don't breed just as robots don't breed. They could replicate but that's besides the point.
Golem lore aside, the ability to mass produce snow Golems would present greifers with a terribly overpowered greifing tool. It's bad enough they can be placed anywhere, the ability to produce them en mass and exponentially multiply them would be catastrophic.
No support; breeding Golems doesn't make sense and is unbalanced. Making a huge pumpkin farm is really not that hard (one of the easier crops to grow and propagate once you have seeds). And snow is obviously not an issue once you start creating your snow Golems. The materials are there, just lump them together.
How could it be improved then? The purpose of this thread is to refine the idea into one acceptable to Notch and Dinnerbone so that is implemented hastily, Thanks!
Some ideas can't be improved. This is one of them. You don't ever want to add something hastily to a game. You should sit down on you keaster and listen to what people have been telling you over and over, think it through, and come to the realization that there are some major issues with implementing this idea that you aren't addressing.

The child friendly part isn't my issue, my issue is that you advertise this as making the game more child friendly, see?
There is nothing wrong with makig minecraft more cuddly and child friendly.
When it clearly doesn't.
However, my issue with the actual suggestion is that it's just flat-out stupid.

If breeding golems is overpowered, what does that make a mob farm or a cow farm or a pumpkin farm?
Normal, because those are the ONLY ways to get their drops (in a renewable way). For meat, farm animals. For pumpkins, grow them. For snow, dig up snow golem droppings.
If breeding golems is overpowered, what does that make a mob farm or a cow farm or a pumpkin farm?
Those take a lot more time, and aren't flat-out stupid either.

Animal farms aren't used to cause massive greifing. The ability to lead a bunch of animals into someones house and rapidly breed them is much more difficult then constructing snow Golems in someones house then rapidly breeding them. That's why it is overpowered.
Edit: reading through the previous posts now, I see you're not one to listen to reason, thought, or criticism. I won't bother having a mature, educated discussion with an immovable, unreasoning force. It was a mistake posting here. I'm leaving this post, I suggest the rest of you do the same before we all get infractions.

Mass breeding animals isnt that hard. Most people probably have both a wheat farm and a cow/pg farm at their house. Basically same speed to massbreed either of them.

You can't breed baby animals, so it does, and animals don't attack you so they're not overpowered. You still haven't even touched on the fact that it makes no sense in terms of what a golem actually is.

Does it make sense that you can enchant your gear with xp from dead spiders? NO so making sense clearly isnt a criteria for being put into the game. Also snow golems dont damage you i believe so they are ok.

I'm sorry, what? Using the souls of dead monsters to give your gear power doe make sense in a fantasy setting, but make robots have sex doesn't. Also, the do damage you slightly, and have you seen the rate of fire? Like others have said, it's a griefing tool just waiting to happen.

TNT, firespread, PVP, mobs in general are all griefing tools. That shouldnt be considered when implementing new mobs and based on creepers and endermeanies i dont think Mojang cares it all about griefing.
We can force them to breed by threatening them with our diamond weapon technology, and unleash the might of the creeper horde upon them if they fail to meet set quotas.
Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/
