Well Mojang's sales for Minecraft can't last forever and those who have been playing for a long time have gotten a lot of content for their dollar. My suggestion for Mojang is premium membership options. This would be a way that Mojang could make revenue and give us access to unique features in the game. They could also sell certain features on the side as well. Their launcher could be used for more than just News.
Why should I pay for something that a mod can already do?
Not everyone knows what a mod is, nevermind know how to install one. There is a market for people who buy things for their games. Mojang could profit off of the huge casual gaming audience. If they buy things for a facebook game, they will buy things in Minecraft. It's profitable for Mojang and gives modders a better interface to make mods. Also it will make cape designs a mainstream feature, so there will be a lot more demand for custom capes. People will end up choosing capes like they do skins.
The point is that this idea is not to restrict mods from doing the same thing, but for Mojang to make it slightly easier to do the same things mods can do without actually having to know how to use them.
In my eyes, it's a win-win.
What things could be considered
-Capes
-Future snapshot direct access download
-Alpha/1.7.3 gamemode WorldType options?
(If you support premium membership, this would be cheaper than paying individually for each and an integrated experience is ideal.) I can't expect them to spend the dozens of extra hours it would take to get them working as a worldtype without an extra fee) I would pay just for this.
-in game console, with basic /spawn, and sethome (IDK basic things that people would like to have in single player)(Having the methods for such a thing built in would be a dream for modders)
-Map gamemode conversion option?? (Under world options, you could change a map's gamemode for premium users)(Using NBTEditor or WorldEdit has a lot more steps than just changing it under world options)
-Cuboid like options in creative mode for premium users.
SMP access to could be an option that any SMP server could turn on, but only a premium Op by default can use it. It can't be given to non premium players. Gamemode would have more options in SMP if these options were allowed on the server and the user was premium.
-Rain/time of day control in creative (SSP only)
Well that's all I can figure off the top of my head. I'm sure there is a lot of creative reasons to include in this. This idea would give us a way to continue supporting future updates for the game. We got the game cheap, so why not pay a little more for some extra features to support the game we love and ensure that Mojang is getting enough resources to continue to approve upon their website, and interface.
Take Note: I mentioned the players who have been playing a long time, only because we have gotten more than what we paid for out of the game. I think that we should be obligated to support Mojang. Remember that Mojang needs money to expand its library of games. The money that comes from Minecraft will be distributed among all of Mojang's projects. Im sure there is a market for something like this, and it expands the options available. Options that will probably never happen unless they were premium.
Edit: It is still considered selfish to expect updates indefinitely even if you were promised it. You are taking Mojang for granted when you expect continuous updates without considering how generous Mojang was to give you those updates without cost. This would be a way for fans to pay tribute to the game they love and in return they would get many perks. Don't just think you deserve updates because you were promised them.
All of these things can be done for free currently (except the direct download) and even if mojang charged for these fearures you can do them for free with mods
i think it would hurt them to have premium stuff, they are already getting bucketloads of money. I for one would not pay for premium stuff. and you can get stff like tat in mods, yes
No just no
I am not going to pay anymore money for what i bought.
Mojang will make plenty more games and get more revenue
They are also earning a lot for a 9 man team ( i might be wrong )

So you wake up on a beach one day, and remember NOTHING. (Except your degree teachings in Engineering, Wilderness Survival, Metal work, Physics, Tech, Psychology, History, Dynamics, and Blocks.) You mine and build and survive for years and years.
Post is updated. Really I think its awfully selfish to think that you are obligated to receive free updates for years to come. You got a basement price for Minecraft. If Minecraft was made by any non Indie developer, it would have been 30 bucks at beta, and full 50 at full release.
All of these features being added to the game would be very unlikely if premium features weren't implemented.Furthermore its not like they are forcing you to pay more for the game. My point is if we want built in perks in Minecraft then we should pay for them. Otherwise I could not expect Mojang to implement any of those ideas for free, especially when the community is so stingy about supporting their company.
Edit: My idea isn't even an item store. I said an item store is one way they could go. The bulk of my idea is a premium upgrade to your account that will let you access extra features that I consider are not essential to the game enough to constitute being added for free. My ideas are just ideas. If one of my suggestions doesn't work, don't just hate the entire list because of it.
It wouldn't divide the player base anymore than choosing to play on a alpha, 1.7.3, or current release versions. These additions to the game do not make your game incompatible at all. There wouldn't be new blocks, or items as those things shouldn't be charged for.
Why are you disagreeing that they add a single idea I listed up there? That's right by disagreeing with my idea you are saying every one of those things shouldn't be in the game, because if you think that your commission to Mojang makes you deserving of such perks, you're kidding yourself. We don't deserve as much.
Also your mod argument falls short, because people who don't know about mods, wont attempt to learn how to use them. These people barely know how to use their computer apart from double clicking on the game and moving around. Furthermore the windows 7 location for Minecraft can be difficult to find, they would have to research the several mods required to do this and they would have to update those mods with each update. Said mods wouldn't be compatible with SMP, so you would need a separate mod for that.
Don't come to me with the "It's easy to install a mod". I know how people can be.
Your other argument about games with item stores is just as such your opinion. There is nothing that is a con about having an item store, you just don't like them. Comparing item stores to WoW further implicates ignorance. Indie games often have item stores; it isn't just the MMORPGs. You ignore all the plus sides to having built in mechanics instead of mods, which instantly makes your opinion biased and thus unreliable.
You kind of failed to mention your views on single/multi priced items. Mojang is likely to market older versions of the game individually. I'm suggesting that instead you pay one lump sum for premium status and you get those versions nicely integrated with the current release along with a lot of other perks. In the end this would save you money when switching over to older versions and the interface would be better. My analysis is that you didn't quite think about my idea past the "I hate item stores period" and that is why I render your whole post invalid.

What do you guys think?
I still gave them my 9 bucks, And mojang Still has earned over 18 535 311$ Dollars allready, If they want to put out content, its their move, And from my understanding mojang Likes the programing the game,
No. Just no. 'Premium' is the game you paid for, it is only a viable concept in a game you can play for free. Minecraft is not free unless you count creative so you're essentially asking people to pay twice to have the whole product (some features that may be added anyway at that).
Hmmm. If you consider the fact that Mojang have sold 4 and three quarter MILLION copies of minecraft, I think they're doing fine for money. And adding this premium content would just infuriate a community that complained about the hunger bar. So I vote no on this idea.
Cucumber

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
I knew this would be controversial. Because the community consists mostly of 12 year olds and younger, they would ***** about not having ALL the features. I think this thread should be a compromise with the community and Mojang. Right now it's been the community demands things from Mojang, even when they haven't paid anything for the game in over a year.
I'm suggesting that in order to get more fleshed out features that we pay extra for them. Is there nothing you would pay Mojang a fee for if they added it to the game?
If it meant not having it and having to pay for it, would you rather not have it? Why? Why would you not support additions to the game? Do you think Mojang is there just to cater to your every whim because they promised you they would?
This idea may not apply to Mojang and it might not be the best thing for Mojang, but it has plus sides that shouldn't be ignored. This idea is impopular, because it is crafted in Mojang's favor. I'm deciding to stick to my guns in this matter, because it's a reasonable compromise. It's exactly the same thing as charging for DLC in games.
Here's how I look at this situation
My idea:
Community: Give us more robust features and access to older content
Mojang: Spends hours to provide extra content and charges small fee

My idea: A lot of useful features added to the game
Communty idea: A lot of disrespect towards Mojang and same old features in the game.
Bad Points made
They have lots of money to pay for these things to be added.
The money they made is from the community as a whole. This does not mean that the community deserves more than what they paid for the game. By making this argument you are saying that Mojang shouldn't strive to continue being a profittable company, and they should not ever try to make more revenue off of their game regardless of what it is. Why don't you guys just tell them they shouldn't be a business because they already have enough money?
Mods are easy to install. <Insert instructions here>
This argument is bad, because of three reasons.
1. Mods are not advertised anywhere in the product and doesn't have multi-language support.
You just can't expect mod usage as being so common knowledge that everyone knows how to use one. Minecraft is a game that is sold all over the world, and people may not know how to read English very well. Unless the mods have multilanguage support, and the instructions on how to use them is written in multiple languages, then built in features are better than a mod. This doesn't consider the computer illiterate people either.
2. Not everyone trusts third party software.
Are we just supposed to take a modder's word for it when he states that his mod does what it is supposed to do? There are people who are very anal about things like this. These people would rather buy features from the company than to freely download some stranger's mod.
3. Searching for a particular mod is more complicated and isn't always obvious
It's just stupid to think that people are just going to know where to look to get what they want, especially when they may not know what they want. Premium features state clearly what they do, and you don't have to google search for a site that might not even be in your language. There would be a clear and easy way to access them and you completely avoid the installation step that a mod requires. It's not easy to find what you want period.
If someone actually makes a good point why this wouldn't work in any form, I will be sure to reply to it.
You want to segregate people with money, and people without money, which in-turn causes forum posts to become increasingly more ignorant when "premium" members feel they have more say on the game because they happened to have the extra money sitting around.
As it stands, the player-base for minecraft is already hugely segregated. There are the people who hate kids, the kids who hate older players, the people who know redstone, the people who don't. The people who can make texture packs, the people who can't make texture packs. The people who hate what Mojang has done to the game after Notch left it, and the people who love the new release stuff.
Mojang has ZERO need for additional paid content -- they do not host servers for people to play on -- they do not host a massive website that requires absurd amounts of dedicated server resources. They have an extremely subpar webpage for the game, and an even more subpar forum (Half the time I am typing a thread up, it will automatically start moving my formatting around). Because they have no need to bleed people for money for upkeep purposes, they shouldn't. And I can almost guarantee the reason they haven't is because they know the player-base will have a ****ing hissy-fit over it. Little kids would scream over how it's unfair because their parents won't but it -- elitist pricks will use it to help determine their rank among an extremely bad community, and casual players are just going to keep playing the Minecraft single player worlds we have that still use pre-release world generation mods because the new game sucks.

This is probably the only good reply to this post, yet it makes me think of a bizzare for profit-non profit organization (when do companies ask for donations?)
I can understand the annoying replies. Us humans are, generally, cheap people who want to spend as little as possible for as much as possible. If you're someone who spent less than $20 for it when it was in alpha, and you don't want to "scam" mojang, then go ahead. If you're going to whine that you were promissed free updates indefinetely, then fine.

Charging money for premium content isn't a bad business model. Almost every game does it. Ever bought DLC? That's considered premium content.
Charging for it when your game is based upon an indie-one time purchase that they have no overhead payments for hardware is a bad idea.

OT: No. We have to pay for a membership for some extra features? My say: The quote above me.
Premium feature : Get a well-known and well-made game called Minecraft.
No I will not +1 you unless you say something worth +1ing. Respect is earned, not given.
This isn't EA games, Mojang knows that charging cash for free **** is a BAD idea.
Charging money for premium content isn't a bad business model. Almost every game does it. Ever bought DLC? That's considered premium content.
Charging for it when your game is based upon an indie-one time purchase that they have no overhead payments for hardware is a bad idea.
