I have been playing around with ideas, and I thought I would present this to you guys. I don't know what you have in store for the NPC's already, but here are some of my ideas. To start with, each village should have a symbol, which would be a certain block or mob, that they would where on their shirts/tunics/whatever they are. You can wander in the city and talk to them. Various people will have things to sell for various items that you can buy. If you attack one of them or steal some wheat from the farm then they would attack you. You could negotiate for treaty with them after you attack them, or you could declare war. When/if you declare war, then other villages where you have treaties would come and help you, depending on the treaty. It may take them a while to get there, but they won't just walk blindly towards the village, but instead they would jump and walk around things as necessarily to get to the village using a logical path(one that an actual person might use) Once one village takes over another, the opposing villagers would separate into 2 groups. First, the largest number, would change the symbol on their cloths to the winning team. The second would go out in the world and create a new village or two, mining stone and cutting down trees. All of this would be very complicated to program, but I believe it would be worth it in terms of customer satisfaction. Thanks for reading!
I like the concept of it, but there are some issues. First, Mojang doesn't read the forums. The best way to get an idea to them is via Twitter, but that certainly has limitations.
Since there can be infinite villages per map, there'd be overlap of symbols.
What if the village coming to help you is in an unloaded chunk? The villagers wouldn't be able to move if the chunk isn't loaded.

Hmm. Good point. Each Village could have a color and a symbol, that would make it so that finding 2 villages with the same shirts would be exceptionally unlikely. The chunk thing is a problem that i don't exactly know how to help... Maybe the entire war thing is too far. The single village could attack you personally and you could still trade and all, but the war would take extensive programming to accomplish anyways. Thanks for reminding me about the chunks.
