After reading about and trying to find an end to the minecraft world map I began to realize how rediculously enormous it is. Most servers host 20-100 people there is no way to make use of it and it seems a vast waste and gives me the feeling of being a lost wanderer in a world too huge for me to ever map or explore.
Suggestions I would love to see:
-If there is an option to decrease the size of the world. This would allow servers to create small pvp maps or have tigher more purposeful towns.
-Having edges to the map that lead to the oppossite side of the world. This would make it appear that the world is a sphere and also make it so that you wouldn't feel like an endless wanderer.
This is something that I have thought about before and pondered whether or not it is a good idea. I think it is a cool idea and it would be a nice add on to any pvp/anarchy server or whatever else you might want to do.

If my post has at all been helpful then I would really appreciate a nice +1 in the bottom right hand corner. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Just need to put "chunk control = true set/ -chunk number" to indicate SMP world size.

Hello, I don't usually follow threads that I post in. So if you would like to have a civilized chat / reply / argument that is of the utmost importance, just PM me. =)
Well, if the server wants a smaller world, the admins could just build a bedrock wall. Otherwise, the world doesn't generate unless there are players within x blocks of it, so taking up too much of the memory isn't a problem.
woh i really like the idea of the map being sphere like. never thought of it actualy. lol :smile.gif:
lawl you never thought of that. My friend wanted use to travel all across the mc world because he thought it was a circle. Then I had to tell him about the Farlands

Together, we can make any crappy place a happy place.
If you really need to tell me something just pm me, I probably won't check topic again unless its really cool.
I hate those people with like 100 spoilers in one because I get curious and keep hitting them.
Wanna see something slightly cool?
TOO BAD! OOOOOOOOOO000000000000oooooooooooo.............
It doesn't really need to be a sphere.
All that needs to happen is that when you reach the end of the world, you come out the other side.
Think of it like a game of "snake." Once you reach the end, you come out the others side.
the farlands had already been accidentally removed.
i don't really want the world to be any smaller than it is now, it would ruin the feel of exploring. there's nothing wrong with huge worlds, is there? but if it is an option i'm okay with it.
and having those edges would be cool!

Optifine is awesome!
Now, when can Notch start using 3D instead of linear chunks for minecraft? It would massively improve performance, and increase height limits by hundreds of times. There are mods out there that do that already.
The only problem with having it as a "sphere" is that minecraft is entirely made up of Square boxes. not spheres.
Yeah it wouldn't actually be a sphere it would only act like it by placing you on the oppossite side of the map.
It irritates me that if 2 people went off exploring in different directions they would never find eachother. I looked up the stats for it on the wiki. The distance from the center of the map is 32,000,000 meters or blocks to the edge of the map. That's 32 million...it is said it would take 820 hours of walking to get to the edge of the map without a flying mod or teleport. This is neat in theory but in a practical game it just irritates me.
I would really like to see more options in the creation of the world. Height, depth and especially world size.
I joined a server today that had a size limit, which I reached the edge it simply said "you have reached the edge of this world, and I couldn't move. Does anyone know how to do this?
-If there is an option to decrease the size of the world. This would allow servers to create small pvp maps or have tigher more purposeful towns.
"borders" are only in your mind friend. the map can be as big or as small as you want it to be. place a fence or block off a valley or *insert your idea to contain your imagination* around the area you don't want to leave, and stay there.
-Having edges to the map that lead to the oppossite side of the world. This would make it appear that the world is a sphere and also make it so that you wouldn't feel like an endless wanderer.
*inserts "endless wanderer" in place of "borders" in post above*
Thats true in single player you can imagine whatever size as your own world. But in multiplayer the other people may be 32 million blocks away from you. Which kinda defeats the purpose of being multiplayer.

Thanks for considering
Farewell everyone o/

Are you suggesting the world should be a giant square made of tiny squares! O.o
There is an edge, it was called the endlands or farlands, but now just farlands because of enderman.

Anyways, why would someone need to limit the size of their world? It only loads as much as you explore.
The statement above is false.
