Ok, we all know CTF and Team Survival is coming. I'm positively excited about trapping people and killing them with lava. :biggrin.gif:
Already got 2 ideas down.
First one is mainly for CTF. You mine deep down, find a lava cavern, then bring it under the enemies flag. Make sure it's decently sized. Then, make something of a bridge leading to the exit (only 1 wide). Have the bridge end under their flag. Now, you dig up just to the side of their flag (jumping with blocks under you style), when you're right near it (like 3 blocks below it), switch to directly under it. Then, steal it, delete the blocks under you, fall onto the bridge.
Now the cool part.
Run away, deleting the bridge after you. Enjoy the screams as they try chasing you and fall into lava.
Another idea is to dig ditch, fill it with lava, then make a floor over it. When the enemy comes dig the floor out from under them. :biggrin.gif:
Last idea atm, is when you're running away, have a hallway with lava touching the walls.* Then when you go into it, destroy the walls. Hall way fills with lava, enemy can't chase you!
Oh, just thought of another. May be a personal favourite.
Dig out a room. 2 entrances. Surround all of the walls with piled up sand (so it takes ages to dig them out). On the entrance you're going to flee through, have stone, then pile stone on top. Also have a stone you can destroy to flood the room with lava. When you run through with enemies chasing, destroy the lava stone and stones holding the sand up (after you're out of the room). Enemy now has to spend ages digging, but they can't because of the lava!
So yeh. Anyone else got ideas of traps?
It'd be like this. X = Walk here. L = Lava. W = Walls.
Make an elaborate maze system under their flag and memorize the way out using markers or whatever. At the exit of the maze, put lava behind a stone wall.
Dig up under their flag, take it, and go through the maze. As your opponents attempt to navigate the maze and reclaim the flag, you type 'have a good swim' into the chat and release the lava as you escape. Foes drown in lava. You laugh.

"Thomas". There, now this thread has a reference to Thomas.

Only one problem. They can just mine through the walls.
Excellent way around them mining through the walls though is to just make the walls 3 thick, with lava in the middle. They aren't about to get past a wall of lava ;].
Well, in the dev blog I remember reading that survival mode would have a short delay on destroying blocks depending on what it was (longer for stone than wood, longer for wood than dirt, etc) while there would be no delay at all for building, so if you were attempting to destroy the bridge behind you (or anything like that at all) they would be able to rebuild it much faster than you could remove it.

Nah, because they'd have nothing to build it off. They'd also be dead.
Would it be possible to move your own flag by digging out the ground underneath it?
Also, another idea would be to create a cul-de-sac surrounded by lava. This way, you could lure people into it, then dig the remaining bottle neck to close off the person/people in a lava circle. Like this:

Digging out the bottle neck would close them off.
A better idea that is rather hard...
Ultimate flag position = inside a cube, which is inside another larger cube, floating over a lake of lava. There is a layer of lava between the 2 cubes, 4 squares thick. The only way in is a hole in the top.

As you're running in the direction of the arrow, you quickly turn around to dig out the 'X' block and severely hamper progress through the doorway. (G = Gravel, S = Stone)
You could also replace Gravel with Lava (that's what the stairs are for) or something :]
-----> Side note; I hope they make either indestructible blocks or blocks that yield no resources when destroyed (that you can build), thus building inescapable traps (if your victim is out of resource).

I feel it's more suited here, if you think this is incorrect. You can report this post with a reason why and I will look into it.
