Once you have diamond, there's nothing else to mine. :sad.gif: What about new ores that will have the same strength as diamond, BUT will give special abilities?
There will be 5 new ores that have the strength of diamonds:
Ruby - is red/pink, represents Fire/Burning
Jade - is green, represents Plants
Amethyst - is purple, represents Psychic/Teleportation
Topaz - is yellowish brown, represents Thunder/Paralyzation
Sapphire - is blue, represents Water/Slowing
These stones are very rare and found deep underground. The ores are only breakable with diamond picks.
When you craft swords or tools with them, they will do their effect upon strike.
When you craft armour out of them, they do their effect to whoever/whatever attacks, unless it is an arrow.
Also, there will be new tools that are especially for them: Magic
There are 2 recipes for magical items using these ores.
The first is the Staff. It has 25 uses and fires in projectile form. I will explain what each staff does.
Here is the crafting recipe for the staff.
= Elemental Ore
**All of the staff's projectiles do 2.5 hearts of damage
Ruby Staff: Fires a ball of fire, when it hits the enemy it will catch it on fire for a short time.
Jade Staff: Fires a ball of green energy, and when it hits the enemy it will create a tree that appears underneath him regardless of what block he is standing on him, then the tree disappears after a second. When the enemy is impaled by this tree, it will be damaged, then jump up 6 blocks and then fall down, causing further damage.
Amethyst Staff: Fires a floating purple eye. When it hits the enemy, it will make him attack any other enemies that are near by. If you hit a player with this, it will make him uncontrollable for 10 seconds, and he will wander around. Any enemy or player that has been "psyched" will have a purple eye above him.
Topaz Staff: Whenever you fire this staff, it shoots out a ball of lightning. When it hits an enemy or player, the enemy/player will be covered with electricity lines and for 5 seconds he will remain with this appearance and also be unable to move. Also, instead of the ball doing damage, a lightning bolt comes down (but one that makes no fire.)
Sapphire Staff: Whoever you hit with a projectile from this staff will become tinted blue and will move at half their speed for 10 seconds.
Now for the books, which are crafted from a book with the gem above it on the crafting grid. They are 1 use only, but very powerful! They fire projectiles as well that look the same as the ones that the staffs fire.
Ruby Spellbook: Whoever you fire at will explode with the equivalent of 4 TNT and be lit on fire for a longer period of time.
Jade Spellbook: Whoever you fire at will have a large tree appear underneath them that does double damage, and will launch up 24 blocks.
Amethyst Spellbook: Any enemy or player that you fire this at will disappear in a portal effect. If an enemy is hit, he just disappears, but if a player is hit, he will go to the End. This spellbook's projectile does not do any damage, and anything hit by it will not drop any items.
Topaz Spellbook: This creates a 9 by 9 wave of lightning that comes down on the MOB/player you shot it at. There is no fire from it, but the paralyzing effect is also extended to 25 seconds.
Sapphire Spellbook: Whoever you fire this at will have half speed for a minute, and will also be encased in ice blocks. If you are hit by this by another player in PVP, you will have to react quickly and destroy the ice blocks with whatever tool you have before you suffocate to death.
And, of course, these staffs and spellbooks can be enchanted for extra effects such as more damage, extended durability (god help us if you make a spellbook have extended durability) and basically all the effects the sword can get.
Remember, you CAN craft armour that does the effects of these staffs. It is half as durable as diamond. But its a big waste of these gems, and the effects may hurt you as well.
You can also make arrows with gem tips, and they will do staff effects when shot, but its kind of a waste :tongue.gif:
This would be cool! Maybe you could make a mod! I only know how to make simple ones, wouldn't know how to add lightning and teleportation and stuff. This is cool, should be considered
Sounds like a epic idea! I just wish i could figure out how to mod (Please help i need modding MC for morons) well after that lame at my own expense id like to hear about it if it gets done!
I really like the idea. Because these effect are so amazing, I have a few suggestions as to make it more fair -
Like you said, they should only be found really deep. Perhaps only between 6-10? That's not a ton of room, so less of them would be accessible.
Maybe the direct form after mining is too impure to use for magic, so instead they have to be refined. Coal will usually refine/forge 8 items per piece. For these, it should take 1 coal for 1 gem. Once they are refined, then they can be used in the staffs.
Great idea though, clearly well thought out.

Awaken my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright; know that I am the Overmind, the eternal will of the swarm, and that you were created to serve me.

How about glowstone dust needs to be used to refine it instead, its practically useless while coal has tons of uses.

The Isles, an arctic Sky Dimension that should be used along with the End.

I think that you should be able to refine a gem at a Enchantment Table. 1 XP level for each gem

Sapphire is the ice element :tongue.gif:
But the post says it represents water, no mentioning of ice.
Redstone is magic (he said so himself), portals are magic, and enemies are magic. If he said there would be no magic than he forgot about that.
